    I installed a similar system on my 8.5 M Sail-Boat off a(KAWASAKI,Supercharged Jet-Ski Motor(310 HP),,with a pneumatic set-up for reverse and controls,took me a week to make-up my mind to finally cut-down the bottom of a perfectly sound and water-proof vessel....!!!...But what a relief and satisfaction when all was installed.After my old tired heavy Penta motor,I could now take my boat on high rough Seas with a super reliable,powerful set-up,already sailed to Portugal,from France and back,fishing on idle but also pushed the engine to max power,lots of torque,now,it's new GARMIN electronics,AP,radar,solar panels all LED lighting and prop,to next year,hit the"big"trip of my dreams to the Philippines.

    I worked on jet boats for 8 years, the experience is different base on different designs, some can be frustrating if the operation principle is not well understood by the engineer and some are just as easy to use like the kids toys. It's a very good propulsion system.

    I'm assuming this is more expensive than the regular propeller sticking out? I see this engine as being helpful for conservation of wildlife, actually. I hear a lot about the Florida manatees being killed or maimed by boat propellers. This just has high velocity water hitting them, which I think is much more safe for the survival of manatees.

    • @michaelmd4303
      @michaelmd4303 Před 6 lety +1

      Jet powered boats have more torque, quicker response and are less susceptible to cavitation and a shallow draft making them operate more efficiently at the cost of much greater fuel expense. Turbo-prop aircraft engines have more torque, much lower horsepower to weight ratio(higher useful load), and fewer moving parts that don’t reverse direction 5000 times per minute at 2500 rpm like a piston engine. This makes them very reliable and therefore safer but at 10x the cost. Bottom line is how efficient something is requires a definition of terms. $0.02

    • @myusername3689
      @myusername3689 Před 9 měsíci

    Not impressive a waterjet machine can cut hardened steel. the problem is you have to replace the nozzle about once a month. the water pressure will simply eat the entire pump. it a short time. those nozzles are made of impregnated tungsten carbide. same material used on Jet engines. water has a tremendous amount of strength. when you force water in high pressure is will eat just about anything. it can be done but extremely costly to maintain.
    also, high-pressure sand will also eat away just about anything. so when you combine water mixed with particles of sand that pump would not last a month .

    • @kwerk2011
      @kwerk2011 Před 6 lety +6

      And yet there are Hamilton Jet boats all over the place that have had little to no maintenance of the jet unit for decades that still run great. Your concerns don't bear out in practice. This is not new tech, it was developed in the 1940s, and is proven.
