Yeah Scarlett was executed badly as a villain. They should’ve stuck with her original gimmick and not make a plot twist with her trying to kill everyone. I honestly wished they had Topher as the villain instead. He actually could’ve been better since he was kissing Chris’s ass. His goal should have been him using the money to make his own reality show. Instead, they turned him into a diet Sierra that doesn’t interact that much with cast. At least he made Chris somewhat sane that season.
Yeah. I think it would've been very cool if Topher hadn't been treated as a joke, and was an actual threat. But not for the other campers, but for *Chris* instead. It would've made him the most unique antagonist on Total Drama.
Max was supposed to be an anti-hero/comic relief and Sugar was a great antagonist IMO, especially since she wasn't a villain stu like Mal or Alejandro or an ineffective one like Justin. She eliminated Ella, Dave, Jasmine, and Scarlett.
The problem is the lack of episodes and screen time she had. They focused to much screen time on Sky, Shawn, Jasmine, Dave, and Sugar. They couldn’t decide who the villain is? Is it Sugar? Is it Topher? Is it Dave? Like they didn’t even think this through. If Max had more of a personality instead of “evil for the sake of evil and being a comic relief” they should of try to slowly make Scarlett slowly more evil when Max is around her in each episode and it would give a reason? Instead they made Max a comic relief, instead of a motivator. Max and Scarlett probably would of maybe made Pahkitew Island less hated but they were wasted potential.
They should have made Pahkitew Island 26 episodes. Keep the cast from that season, and add a few reward challenges (Something not seen since World Tour).
I’d say Sugar was the main antagonist(like Scott in Revenge if the Island), Dave was the final antagonist(like Lightning), and Scarlett was an episodal antagonist(like Ezekiel and Heather in ROTI), Amy was secondary(like Jo) while Topher was an antagonist to Chris, but not to the contestants, but Chris was the main antagonist, so if anything, he was a failed hero who tried to overthrow Chris.

How is Courtney not a villain? She attempted murder in the Island Special while smiling vigorously as if she was enjoying it and threatened to let people die while smiling casually in Dial M for Merger. Sugar pushed someone off a cliff and convinced Dave to vote himself out, and threw a tree on Jasmine. Justin is more of an anti-villain, but still a villain.
i agree, i actually liked the idea of making her a hidden villain who gradually shows her true nature until she explodes. She was basically Mal without plot armor (which is one of the main reasons why he's hated).
Here's my main issue with the Pahkitew Island cast, they took 3 of Mike's personalities and slapped them onto the cast when I was hoping for all new types of characters, the cast felt too gimmicky and most of the gimmicky characters made it farther than the people who had potential. Amy and Sammy suffered because of this, the two main relationships felt like too much focus, and I honestly couldn't tell who was the villain at first. Amy, Scarlett, Sugar with her stupidity one episode and her playing the game just fine the next? Who knows? I still say All-Stars and Pahkitew Island should have been one full 26 episode season Fans vs. Favorites style giving everyone more time to develop! Sorry for the rant...Pahkitew Island makes me bang my head against the wall sometimes is all.

Ya when I saw Scarlett going evil was pretty scary. Especially when you consider how far she was willing to go to get the Million Dollar prize. Also I think it would have been funny it find out that Scarlett was related to Izzy.
Scarlett was my favorite character when I first watched the season, but now I find her one of the most frustrating characters in the entire series. I loved how she seemed like a normal character at first, but slowly revealed a more mischevious side. I loved how she slowly gained control over the island, and how she tried to conspire against Max. But what I absolutely despise is what the writers did to her in episode 10, even though I saw many people calling that episode the best of the season. Her new personality was cringy and over the top despite being well foreshadowed, but to me the worst thing the writers did to her was making her suddenly stupid. She went from being the quiet genius to the loud idiot. After gaining control of the island she could have taken the immunity by winning the challenge and then use her powers to easily win the next challenges without anyone suspecting her (or just reveal her trick, it wouldn't have mattered). Instead she decided to comit a crime in live TV just for a million dollars, even though with her intellect she could have easily earned them legally. Even if Chris had given her the million, she would have been arrested wherever the escape pod was supposed to land. She would be forced to dissapear at the very least. Also, the way she was defeated was moronic. Earlier in the season it had been pointed out how observant she was (she was the only contestant besides Jasmine who noticed Sammy's switch, despite them looking almost exactly the same), but during episode 10 she was fooled by a broken Chris robot that was obviously fake, despite controlling the cameras and knowing Chris hadn't gotten near her in the whole time. Even if that person was actually Chris, why would have she carelessly openened the door? She should have told him to just drop the money and leave. tl;dr: Scarlett had a lot of wasted potential and I hate how she became an idiot in episode 10.
It could be argued that Scarlett always had that evil stirring in her, and she just had to have the perfect opportunity to release all that pent-up anger. Which I think is what they were going for.

I feel the execution would have been much better if the evil villain change in appearance and voice wasn’t a thing. If she just calmly sicced the Chris bots and the bear thing on her fellow competitors and nonchalantly threatened Chris with a smug degree of calculated viciousness, it would have been a million times better to have her as a villain. Sugar beating her is also a big issue. It should have been a defeat due to her reliance on her assumption that everyone else is incompetent. It would be deliciously ironic for max to come up with some hairbrained invention that manages to capture her in a sort of “wait that worked?” Kind of scene
Scarlett was a breakout in this season for me - but like you said, tbh, not because of the villain twist. I reckon it could have worked pretty well had it been a full season, but Pahkitew was too small and she didn't get the screen time to develop in a believable way. *shrug I love her comment about programming her little brother's toys to attack him xD
Scarlett is actually one of my favorite characters from Pahkitew. Her personality is fun and it’s a different take on the brainiac trope we’ve gotten before. She helps Max be a relatively funny character imo (without her he’s obnoxious and annoying) and I really like the idea of her actually being evil. The lead up throughout the season to the reveal was interesting and it was fun watching her slowly lose it and piecing together her road to domination. I would agree the evil twist ramped that up to an 11 and not in a good way. Had she retained the personality we got for most of the season just with the whole being evil thing fully out there now, I think it would’ve been a fun twist for the episode and a good downfall for her. At least passable compared to the over exaggerated and cringey version we got. Still, one of my favorites to come out of Pahkitew Island and I wouldn’t mind seeing her again if another season were to be miraculously green lit. I think it would be fun to see her just being smart and evil and lowkey murderous lol

I think instead of her being like “bwahaha this is the real me, I was an evil psychopath the whoooole time!”, here’s how it should’ve gone. She coulda always had like, some deep rooted psychopathicness in her but she wasn’t just like “biding her time, waiting in secret” or whatever. Rather, her annoyance and anger with Max (and the others to a degree) actually drove her insane and brought out the evil inside her that she was trying to contain/didn’t know was there. That makes her way more interesting than “Hey guess I’m actually secretly a super villain.”

Her heel turn was still the most interesting thing of Pakitoo bad for TV. She had potential to be a cool and freaky villain, her intelligence made her a threat. Imagine a Scarlet vs B side story.

I get exactly what you're saying dude. That what made this character a complicated villain is the fact that they didn't build it up. What I mean is that during trying to get to know a character there has to be a build up. For example, Heather was using evil strategies to understand her teammates "build-up" like what makes them mad, what type of personality they have, also like what is their weak points. Scarlett didn't seem to have any obvious particular quirks that made her a villain kinda like Mike, Heather, and Alejandro. But we soon find out later that they truly didn't care who they have hurted or took advantage of to get what they want. Hey, we can almost say that scarlett may be a different type of villain; the silent but deadly type. Like instead of everyone knowing her true intentions she studies her opponents, then makes her move. But I understand, nowadays with certain shows the personality changes with characters just feels like is rushed. I know it's like " get to the point " and while this works for some shows others while their good shows try to do the same, but it doesn't seem to make sense afterwards. Idk. TV is weird sometimes.
I think I would have liked Scarlet as a villain if she, instead of going cartoonishly evil suddenly, she's just a major player. As the game goes on, she slowly but surely starts to take control of the game, and by the time she discovers the island is mechanical and hacks into it to control the island, she seems unstoppable until she is eventually taken down. She wouldn't be evil for the sake of being evi;l or anything, she would just be willing to do anything to win.
If Chris McLean is a victim of flanderization, Scarlett is a classic victim of character derailment. I mean… what the hell? Wonder if it's possible to retcon this type of derailment and start over with her from a writing standpoint.
I feel like they could’ve made Scarlett a good villain if they made her more of a strategic player who manipulates the others into voting whoever she thinks is the biggest threat for her game because the way they did it was way to rushed like we got slight hints that she was going mad but not nearly enough for the Scarlett we got in the episode she got eliminated in.
I would've much rather'd it if instead of she being a classy villian comic book stu she was just a normal person who uses her superior intelligence to outwit, blackmail or manipulate the competition. But she would be secretive about it, like Alejandro.
One idea I had during this video (which I haven't seen people suggest before, but it's possible that someone has already said this) is to make Topher the antagonist of this season. He would be very different from most other antagonists. Almost all of them tend to make the other contestants' lives absolute hell in order to win, but Topher could stand out by not aiming for the other campers, but for Chris (and maybe even Chef). He did do that, but he wasn't very good at it. Maybe they could make him manipulate the others to try and slowly take away Chris's control of the show without him noticing, hiding that strategy under his fanboy persona during the season (only showing small vestiges of his true plan), and only being kicked off the island when he's in the final three or four, solely because Chris finally figured out his real plan, not because the other contestants actually voted him off. If he was written better, he could have been one of the most intimidating antagonists in Total Drama without even having to hurt any of the campers, and maybe people would be more positive about Pakithew Island.
I also enjoyed her presence as non evil neerdy smart gingerhead lady before the Scarlett Fever (in the first 9 episodes, mostly in A Blast From The Past to This Is The Pits!

I personally think Scarlett wasn't evil she more or less was a master mind silent killer type( yeah and I know you some of you fans are gonna be like BuT sHe ThReAtNeD tO kIlL EvErY 1 OvEr MoNeY) but Chris nearly does this all the time to campers. personally the writing of arc was kinda ruined though because I don't believe Scarlett is that guillable to act like that on reality TV I mean they kinda built her up to be a mastermind an anti hero-counter type.
I think if she would of convinced everyone to vote out max after he finds out her true identity, than the next episode she shows more evil, but convinces to vote out sugar (since no one rlly liked her) than in the final 4 an episode similar to this one occurs and she gets eliminated there to give her more development before her big break through.
mm, she would've been better if she was passive-aggressive, in my opinion. and she would've lashed out at max because she would've been sick of him and his shit. that way it wouldn't be rushed, and we'd get to know you can't bottle your feelings forever, and by doing that you'd explode sooner or later.
I still like Pahiktew and All Stars could've benefit with longer seasons with an episodes count the same as the first three. We seen Action and World Tour had a similar size cast with longer seasons. This would've give the characters more time to develop
Scarlett is my favourite character (first episodes Scarlett) but she is not a vilian. I mean, she is the smartest character but what she did with her "evil" side is the dumpest thing in the show. Seriously? She could recognice Samey pretending to be Amy but could not recognise the robot Chris with red eyes, no arms and Max's voice. She was with him every minute of every episode. I have a theory about Scarlett and looking the facts, it sounds logical so it may be true. Scarlett is not a vilian and never she was. She is just the good girl we have seen in the beggining. The whole "vilian" thing was just a role she played to win faster. She said her brother was in therapy but is it just a secret message to say he is ill and needs money for an operation, so Scarlett should win the game in any price. When she saw that most of the contestents are way dumper, including Chris and the Chef, she made the plan to trick them and to pretend to be evil. Unfortunatelly, we do not know her original plan, but what really hapened. And it was Max. Scarlett started to fall in love with him and her feelings broke her rational thinking. About the scene with robot Chris, this is when she found out she made a mistake when she saw the robot and heard Max's voice. She was in panic and because she is not evil, she did not want to hurt anyone and pretended to be a fool and open the door, so others can be save. Why she was not pushed the button instead? Well, as I said - panic. She had no idea what she was doing at the moment but wanted to save the others. She failed with her plan but maybe she should have been succeded. It would be interesting to see that kind of winning in Total Drama. And then she should reject the other money and give back to Chris with just picking enough for her brother to save him. It would be a better finaly for this garbage season. This is my theory about Scarlett. What do you think?
I think Sugar and Scarlett as well as to a lesser extent Amy , Max and Dave are a Big Bad Ensemble wheres theys more then one villain working alone or together, look at Disney Pinocchio that didnt have a single antagonist.
I agree with you Adam. The shift was too dramatic, but seeing the circumstances it's understandable. Looking at the Island, Scarlett slowly discovered that the Island is mechanic. As the mastermind she is, she tried taking over control of the Island as Max basically fucked her plans up several times (The remote she made, barfing over the electric control tree). Eventually she ended up in the control room, and I guess she got over stimulated. Hatred towards Max, finally getting and finding what she wanted (control over the island) the one million dollars she wants to go to collage... So she snaps. Also, if Pakitew wasn't a mechanical island, I don't think Scarlett would've turned into a maniac. She would've screwed people over with their own games of they would have provoked Scarlett (like Max did). A thougt: If Max got eliminated instead of kept in the episode he has netted his team, I suppose Scarlett could actually have a reason to transform into her crazy and evil self. But yes, the way they have represented it was too much and should've been done better.
Maybe if Dave competed again , he could have been a full villain , trying to get revenge of Sky being a fallen hero similar to Courtney in Action , though how competed he Is in a full season rather then a single episode.
I felt like Scarlett should have stayed as this "200 IQ sociopath genius" where she acts within logic and calculates her opponents every move,and they should not have made her go from this "apathetic genius" to "MUHAHAHAH EEEEEVVVVILLLLL" and slowly make her go from a apathetic genius to "I will do anything for the money even if it includes breaking each and every contestants sanity for the million dollars."and goes around behind the shadows eliminating threats on the island.

I ranked Scarlett higher in the love B end of tier list because she is one of my favorite characters that came from TDPI, next to Jasmine Shawn Ella Sky Sugar Sammy and Topher. I love her conflict between her and Max.

Scarlett is like a rip off version from characters like Izzy as a airhead + Heather + Courtney + Mal + Harold + Cameron together they had born a young child. Ruthless and badass like Courtney and Mal, Smart, crafty and a genius like Izzy, Harold & Cameron and lethal like Heather combined. This is how I see Scarlett in this way.

tl;dr: Scarlett had a lot of wasted potential and I hate how she became an idiot in episode 10.
It could be argued that Scarlett always had that evil stirring in her, and she just had to have the perfect opportunity to release all that pent-up anger. Which I think is what they were going for.

i really liked her design because it was different for a villain. I also liked how she was a quiet villain compared to heather, courtney and alejandro and they should have kept her that way :/

I feel the execution would have been much better if the evil villain change in appearance and voice wasn’t a thing. If she just calmly sicced the Chris bots and the bear thing on her fellow competitors and nonchalantly threatened Chris with a smug degree of calculated viciousness, it would have been a million times better to have her as a villain. Sugar beating her is also a big issue. It should have been a defeat due to her reliance on her assumption that everyone else is incompetent. It would be deliciously ironic for max to come up with some hairbrained invention that manages to capture her in a sort of “wait that worked?” Kind of scene
Scarlett was a breakout in this season for me - but like you said, tbh, not because of the villain twist. I reckon it could have worked pretty well had it been a full season, but Pahkitew was too small and she didn't get the screen time to develop in a believable way. *shrug I love her comment about programming her little brother's toys to attack him xD
Scarlett is actually one of my favorite characters from Pahkitew. Her personality is fun and it’s a different take on the brainiac trope we’ve gotten before. She helps Max be a relatively funny character imo (without her he’s obnoxious and annoying) and I really like the idea of her actually being evil. The lead up throughout the season to the reveal was interesting and it was fun watching her slowly lose it and piecing together her road to domination. I would agree the evil twist ramped that up to an 11 and not in a good way. Had she retained the personality we got for most of the season just with the whole being evil thing fully out there now, I think it would’ve been a fun twist for the episode and a good downfall for her. At least passable compared to the over exaggerated and cringey version we got. Still, one of my favorites to come out of Pahkitew Island and I wouldn’t mind seeing her again if another season were to be miraculously green lit. I think it would be fun to see her just being smart and evil and lowkey murderous lol

I think instead of her being like “bwahaha this is the real me, I was an evil psychopath the whoooole time!”, here’s how it should’ve gone. She coulda always had like, some deep rooted psychopathicness in her but she wasn’t just like “biding her time, waiting in secret” or whatever. Rather, her annoyance and anger with Max (and the others to a degree) actually drove her insane and brought out the evil inside her that she was trying to contain/didn’t know was there. That makes her way more interesting than “Hey guess I’m actually secretly a super villain.”

I get exactly what you're saying dude. That what made this character a complicated villain is the fact that they didn't build it up. What I mean is that during trying to get to know a character there has to be a build up. For example, Heather was using evil strategies to understand her teammates "build-up" like what makes them mad, what type of personality they have, also like what is their weak points. Scarlett didn't seem to have any obvious particular quirks that made her a villain kinda like Mike, Heather, and Alejandro. But we soon find out later that they truly didn't care who they have hurted or took advantage of to get what they want. Hey, we can almost say that scarlett may be a different type of villain; the silent but deadly type. Like instead of everyone knowing her true intentions she studies her opponents, then makes her move. But I understand, nowadays with certain shows the personality changes with characters just feels like is rushed. I know it's like " get to the point " and while this works for some shows others while their good shows try to do the same, but it doesn't seem to make sense afterwards. Idk. TV is weird sometimes.

I think I would have liked Scarlet as a villain if she, instead of going cartoonishly evil suddenly, she's just a major player. As the game goes on, she slowly but surely starts to take control of the game, and by the time she discovers the island is mechanical and hacks into it to control the island, she seems unstoppable until she is eventually taken down. She wouldn't be evil for the sake of being evi;l or anything, she would just be willing to do anything to win.

If Chris McLean is a victim of flanderization, Scarlett is a classic victim of character derailment. I mean… what the hell? Wonder if it's possible to retcon this type of derailment and start over with her from a writing standpoint.
I feel like they could’ve made Scarlett a good villain if they made her more of a strategic player who manipulates the others into voting whoever she thinks is the biggest threat for her game because the way they did it was way to rushed like we got slight hints that she was going mad but not nearly enough for the Scarlett we got in the episode she got eliminated in.
I would've much rather'd it if instead of she being a classy villian comic book stu she was just a normal person who uses her superior intelligence to outwit, blackmail or manipulate the competition. But she would be secretive about it, like Alejandro.
One idea I had during this video (which I haven't seen people suggest before, but it's possible that someone has already said this) is to make Topher the antagonist of this season. He would be very different from most other antagonists. Almost all of them tend to make the other contestants' lives absolute hell in order to win, but Topher could stand out by not aiming for the other campers, but for Chris (and maybe even Chef). He did do that, but he wasn't very good at it. Maybe they could make him manipulate the others to try and slowly take away Chris's control of the show without him noticing, hiding that strategy under his fanboy persona during the season (only showing small vestiges of his true plan), and only being kicked off the island when he's in the final three or four, solely because Chris finally figured out his real plan, not because the other contestants actually voted him off. If he was written better, he could have been one of the most intimidating antagonists in Total Drama without even having to hurt any of the campers, and maybe people would be more positive about Pakithew Island.
Scarlett is a cinematographic villain, she wasn't interesting in most of the episodes but she was amazing in Scarlett Fever
I also enjoyed her presence as non evil neerdy smart gingerhead lady before the Scarlett Fever (in the first 9 episodes, mostly in A Blast From The Past to This Is The Pits!

I've been watching this show since the start..... First time I ever actually finally noticed her globe in the back of her audition..... I wish I could joke....

I still like Pahiktew and All Stars could've benefit with longer seasons with an episodes count the same as the first three. We seen Action and World Tour had a similar size cast with longer seasons. This would've give the characters more time to develop
Scarlett is my favourite character (first episodes Scarlett) but she is not a vilian. I mean, she is the smartest character but what she did with her "evil" side is the dumpest thing in the show. Seriously? She could recognice Samey pretending to be Amy but could not recognise the robot Chris with red eyes, no arms and Max's voice. She was with him every minute of every episode.
I have a theory about Scarlett and looking the facts, it sounds logical so it may be true.
Scarlett is not a vilian and never she was. She is just the good girl we have seen in the beggining. The whole "vilian" thing was just a role she played to win faster. She said her brother was in therapy but is it just a secret message to say he is ill and needs money for an operation, so Scarlett should win the game in any price. When she saw that most of the contestents are way dumper, including Chris and the Chef, she made the plan to trick them and to pretend to be evil. Unfortunatelly, we do not know her original plan, but what really hapened. And it was Max. Scarlett started to fall in love with him and her feelings broke her rational thinking. About the scene with robot Chris, this is when she found out she made a mistake when she saw the robot and heard Max's voice. She was in panic and because she is not evil, she did not want to hurt anyone and pretended to be a fool and open the door, so others can be save.
Why she was not pushed the button instead? Well, as I said - panic. She had no idea what she was doing at the moment but wanted to save the others.
She failed with her plan but maybe she should have been succeded. It would be interesting to see that kind of winning in Total Drama. And then she should reject the other money and give back to Chris with just picking enough for her brother to save him. It would be a better finaly for this garbage season.

Looking at the Island, Scarlett slowly discovered that the Island is mechanic. As the mastermind she is, she tried taking over control of the Island as Max basically fucked her plans up several times (The remote she made, barfing over the electric control tree). Eventually she ended up in the control room, and I guess she got over stimulated. Hatred towards Max, finally getting and finding what she wanted (control over the island) the one million dollars she wants to go to collage...
So she snaps.
Also, if Pakitew wasn't a mechanical island, I don't think Scarlett would've turned into a maniac. She would've screwed people over with their own games of they would have provoked Scarlett (like Max did).
A thougt: If Max got eliminated instead of kept in the episode he has netted his team, I suppose Scarlett could actually have a reason to transform into her crazy and evil self. But yes, the way they have represented it was too much and should've been done better.

Ruthless and badass like Courtney and Mal, Smart, crafty and a genius like Izzy, Harold & Cameron and lethal like Heather combined. This is how I see Scarlett in this way.
