  • Putting the GX21FF to the test airless spraying doors.. Painting doors with very little paint.. Demonstrating the benefit of using a hopper when spraying..
    You will have seen PaintHQ is a fan of using a hopper!.. requiring less paint to prime the pump and faster clean up.. Airless spraying tips and spray technique, how to spray internal doors with airless. See spraying techniques and spraying tips throughout this video.
    GXFF Vs GX21
    The GXFF (Graco FinishPro GX19) with it’s onboard hopper is a popular airless paint sprayer for fine finish spraying trim / woodwork.. Yet It’s capable of spraying a ceiling / spraying walls, but only has a maximum tip size .019.
    The GX21 is siphon feed, has a .021 maximum tip size, lending itself to spraying emulsion but with a larger 15m 1/4” hose as standard, it would require more material to ‘prime the pump’.. if wanting to spray a small amount of material when spraying woodwork, a hopper would be more beneficial.
    Sprayman UK was first to come up with the original and the best GX21FF.. A hybrid of both popular Graco GX machines.. taking a Graco GX21 and adding a Graco Airless Finishing Kit.. also allowing a quick switch back to siphon mode if needed..

    Well after using a cheapo screwfix wagner (the one with no pressure control whatsoever) 😔 to mist coat the walls and full coat the ceilings in a new build a few months ago I knew another opportunity to spray would come along soon. Another new build this time so the perfect chance to put my new GX21FF from spraymanUK to work. Loads of freshly plastered ceilings and walls and all the woodwork to do. I love painting and decorating for a living but every now and again I need something new to get me exited about it again and I've decided to jump in to spraying properly. Your vids are awesome, and have inspired me even more to get myself a decent set up. I'm sure I'll have some questions going forwards if that's OK? Thanks for taking the time to make interesting informative content! Keep on keeping on, cheers!

      Hi John, thanks for supporting the channel, really appreciate it my friend.. good question about the materials I’m a fan of spraying.. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the waterborne low viscosity (spray only) coatings by AkzoNobel.. they spray airless so easily with an FFLP 308 tip and at such low pressure (as demonstrated in this video).. or HVLP with a 1.5 needle straight out the can.. sorry I sound like an advert for AkzoNobel, I’m not.. the finish is just so nice.. and the primer has awesome high build properties on mdf and pine, the sanding is great.. below is direct links to the products on the Holmans website.. I’ve used Holmans Speciality Paints personally for some years, for AkzoNobel and Tikkurila and Teknos amongst others.. I’ve actually been able to setup a discount code with Holmans for CZcams viewers.. if you enter PAINTHQ at checkout, you’ll get 5% discount off everything.. Hi Pete. I’ve ordered one of these today along with a manifold filter. My sprayer packed up 😞 So annoying as I’d spent most of the morning prepping and masking in a fairly large room. Got all ready, had some lunch, strained my paint, went to prime and nothing. Still, my old one did well so can’t complain just bad timing is all. I like the nets you use in the hopper I wonder if I can get those in the UK 🤔

      @PaintHQ  Před 2 lety +1

      Hey Freddie, sorry to hear about your sprayer packing up.. but great news on your GX21FF purchase, I’m sure it will serve you very well 💯 ..The paint strainers are by Trimaco.. if I recall SpraymanUK stock them in their ‘decorating supplies’.. now they can be a pain to get on the hopper and some give up.. they do fit but take a bit of manipulation.. I tend to stretch and ‘break’ the edge, but this is handy because I place the return pipe through the hole to get the lid on 👍 ..they are very handy and rinse out really easy to be used again and again.. nice one on your purchase, let me know how you get on and if you need any help or advise.. regards Pete

    Good morning Pete, hope you're well mate. I have a question for you... When you go to price a job up in an occupied house, do your clients ask for it to be sprayed or do you advise that, that is what you are going to do? Also, do you ever do conventional painting, brush and roller? Cheers mate. Regards from sunny Bournemouth. 👍🏻🌞

    • @PaintHQ
      @PaintHQ  Před 2 lety +2

      Good morning to you in sunny Bournemouth ☀️👌😆 .That’s a very good question.. yeah I’m a P&D at heart, who admires and still uses the traditional skills.. as confidence grows, you find yourself looking to spray for the benefits of quality and efficiency.. I now spray all woodwork and ceilings.. ceilings is something I’d recommend to every P&D to spray, the protection of flooring and any furniture is just the same as using a brush / roller.. in my opinion if you get the pressure dialled in at the lowest possible pressure to produce a nice fan pattern (spray tip selection is crucial), the fallout / mess is far less that that coming off a roller 😆 ..Walls and perhaps small projects I may not always spray.. but as soon as I brush and roll, I wish I’d chosen to spray 🙈 ..It’s true to say clients want quality work, I don’t necessarily sell that I’m spraying (if that makes sense) but I do analyse each job and look if I can spray it and certainly how can I tackle it for the best finish.. thanks for your question, I know it’s tricky sometimes to think what to do 🤔 ..I’ll help you any way I can, if you need me.. regards Pete 🎨💯

I don't really have the confidence to spray out a full room as of yet, I am quite worried I would come badly unstuck with the masking, sheeting up etc if I'm on a price, maybe I should do a few rooms on a day rate to get a feel for how long I think it'll take then go to price with spraying. Also, knowing what pressure to spray at for each paint is something I am not too sure about yet, I got a manual here from Dulux regarding what tip sizes to use so that's fine. Sorry to waffle on haha! Thanks again, Pete. Love the channel! 😃😀😀😀

    What is the difference between this 21ff and gx 19ff obviously this one you can spray walls more power?
    Im having issues with spraying doors & trim using the 390 & ultramax and was advised to get a hopper and hose for the 390 and minimise pulsation and psi 🤔 instead of buying a new gx 19 for woodwork

    • @PaintHQ
      @PaintHQ  Před 2 lety +1

      Hello my friend, yeah the GX21 / GX21FF has a bit more output versus the GXFF (GX19), so lends itself to spraying more emulsions, especially with its ability to use siphon mode.. whereas the GXFF (GX19) with it’s dedicated hopper and no ability to siphon feed, is more suited to fine finish work.. but could still spray the odd ceiling 👍 That’s why SpraymanUK came up with the idea of creating a GX21/GXFF hybrid.. the GX21FF
      GXFF (GX19), maximum tip size .019 and 1.5 Litres per/min
      GX21 / GX21FF, maximum tip size .021 and slightly more output at 1.8 Litres per/min
      You have a great pump in the 390 👏👌👍 ..same output as the GX21, but a better built pump.. Pulsating can occur with these pump designs, but I wouldn’t expect it to cause you a problem with your 390.. (that affected the finish).. In this video, you cannot detect any pulsating, even when footage is slowed down, and like I say it’s the same pump size as the 390
      I do like a hopper, with a smaller hose setup.. I’d go for that as an addition to your 390, you wouldn’t be required to purchase the GXFF (GX19) or GX21FF.. certainly not for combating pulsation.. if your 390 required a battery transformer, then the GX21FF is a nice contrast for portability.. so yeah a hopper for your 390 with a smaller hose (The Graco Finishing Kit) would be a nice addition..
      Quick question, what product are you spraying and what’s the tip and pressure you’re using?..
      Let me know how you get on.. regards Pete

      @AlexKunstar Před 2 lety +2

      Allow me to chime in as well on your issues. I have a Graco 395 pc pro (same endurance pump as your 390). The only time I've had pulsing issues is when my pump needed repacked, or had dings/scratches on my lower inlet ball, had the balls sticking from a buildup of debris or paint, needed the filter in the gun and manifold cleaned out, buildup of paint around suction inlet tube, and lastly needed to disassemble and clean my cleanshot valve, (it's also possible your gun needs new packings but I doubt it). If I had to guess assuming you do proper cleaning, your lower ball is scratched up or has a small buildup of stubborn paint. You should also definitely take a minute to stir up your material with a drill and the yellow stir stick attachment and then strain your paint. With that said, I also own a gx19 that I absolutely LOVE using for trim. It primes faster than any sprayer I've ever used, takes almost no material to start spraying with it. It's an awesome addition to your arsenal. I also bit the bullet and purchased a Graco 9.5 hvlp sprayer for fine finish stuff, I have two guns for it as well as an extra cup, so I can be in 3 different colors simultaneously practically, with super easy swapping to other colors/materials. Usually I'm spraying bin, then topcoats in a few colors on cabinet conversions. All these tools WILL make you money. I'm also considering getting a Graco 390 cordless to ditch my extension cords on some projects. I would highly recommend getting any of these sprayers but obviously only you know your budget and volume of work that you need to keep up with. This is my 20th year spraying, and I couldn't imagine not having all 3units. Its just mega convenient to be able to be in so many different colors all at once, or if I have a front door with only a quart of material that I still have the option to spray it with my hvlp setup (possibly even the gx19, tho I tend not to risk it with such small quantities of material, plus it's easier to clean a cup than the hopper). I do also have two handheld Graco ultra units, corded and cordless model, which I recommend avoiding like the plague. They are a waste of money and cannot be relied upon for performance or a quality finish. The triax pump by design sprays in pulses (extremely annoying to use, loses prime all the time, pumps have a very short life).

      Awesome and very insightful information, thank you Alex 🙏 .I like your view on the GX19 (GXFF here in the UK).. the latest cordless addition released by Graco, the GX19 Cordless.. couple that with a Graco Bluemax 4.5m / 15ft hose, is a winner to spray the smallest amount of material, with quick efficient prime and cleanup 👏👏👏

      @@PaintHQ I have the GX21DF, awesome machine. Direct feed without the hose means even less paint needed in the system, which comes in handy when using all kinds of colors in little quantities. I'm very happy when using it for woodwork/trim with a short spraying hose, whip hose, PC compact gun and a little paint. I can see why the DF can be less balanced maybe but honestly never had an issue with it. Switching back to siphon mode maybe takes a little more time, but I prefer the hopper and only use the siphon when spraying a lot of walls/ceilings. ehi Nicolò amico mio, mi scuso per la mia risposta in ritardo.. ti risponderò sempre 🙏 ..non ho familiarità al 100% con il PP90, tuttavia con il mio coinvolgimento nel settore degli appaltatori di vernici, posso onestamente raccomandare le unità Graco , come la gamma GX / GX21 .. parlo spesso con ingegneri che elogiano la qualità costruttiva della pompa e del motore, quindi una volta che la pompa richiede un intervento, può essere sostituita senza attrezzi e a costi molto contenuti.. posso personalmente garantisco che la qualità costruttiva è eccellente e il servizio A+ Graco è il migliore del settore.. spero che questo aiuti.. saluti Pete

      @@PaintHQgrazie Amico anch'io la vedo così.. visto le caratteristiche tecniche della Graco
      GS21 e come dici il risparmio della manutenzione per quanto riguarda la sostituzione pompa senza uso di attrezzi...volevo comunque un tuo parere e come sempre apprezzato 🙏 saluti Nicolò

    Hi! Thank you for the good information. I have 390pc and when I do woodwork with a Dulux water based enamel, I have to mix 15-20% of the water for fflp308 tip. I would like to know if using gxff (Gx19) or gx21 can I use fflp308 without mixing water. I want to use it without mixing water. I usually use Dulux fast finish enamel, SteriGuard Enamel. Thanks a lot

      Hey buddy.. the 390 is an awesome unit and will serve you well, you certainly don’t need a GX unit my friend.. sounds like you just need a bigger tip, such as a .010.. a 210 or 310.. when I’m spraying with a 208 or 308, I’m spraying a low viscosity (thin / free flowing) waterborne paint by AkzoNobel.. this paint is ‘spray only’.. sounds like you’re spraying a material that also can be applied by brush / roller.. typically a .010 such as a 210 or 310 sprays these thicker materials without thinning 👍 ..let me know how you get on.. regards Pete
