    Great collection of information. Now to tackle mine. My issue is loosing power after driving about 5-10 miles. I added a fuel pressure guage to the spare left bank fuel rail in the head and it shows very little pressure. My first stop is to pinch off the return line and see what that does. Thank you for this vid! Very helpfull.

    This by far was the most informative video/breakdown of the fuel distribution for the Detroit 8.2l (Fuel Pincher) out on the web I have came across. #5Stars This has given me a real good trouble shooting flow chart to go by with a similar problem. I'll chime in after I get mine back up and running. Thanks!!

    Agreeing with you it is not a PowerHouse , it is a Boat Anchor ! The GMC BRIGADIER was of very simple fleet designed truck . Yellow Freight had a fleet of them , all they needed was 4 more feet of frame rail , air ride suspension , and an air ride cab !

    I have worked on these 8.2 detroits will start in the coldest of weather, and have NEVER replaced a fuel pump they never ware out. The bigest problem was the head gaskets and the injectors leaking diesel fuel in to the oil.

    I have the same engine that is leaking coolant into the oil pan and i correct in thinking that it is the head gasket.

    • @potatolew4495
      @potatolew4495 Před 2 lety +1

      Yes indeed you are especially if it overheated once. I have been a captain/engineer of large commercial fishing vessels and private yachts for 27 years, have come across and repaired many of these engines. They are ticking time bombs, very temperamental especially to overheats, head gaskets are a major fail point.

    Great video and very informative, i have the same engine in my dump truck and was wondering what the ideal way is to bleed the fuel system after swapping out the fuel filters? Obviously these don’t have a lift pump so what does the service manual recommend?

    • @ScienceOfDiagnostics
      @ScienceOfDiagnostics  Před 4 lety +2

      Don't have the manual in front of me at the moment but if I recall correctly, they want you to prime the fuel filters and then crank over the engine until it starts (if supply pump in the injection pump operates correctly it should fire off quickly).
      You can also pinch off the return line to force air out the injectors quicker.

    • @TeamTopKick
      @TeamTopKick Před 4 lety

      What I do is full the filters than cycle the ignition on and off like 5 times then on the 5th time turn he over and it starts up pretty much instantly but sputters for a few seconds till it basically bleeds its self and cleans up and your good.

    • @beckywatt5048

      jay powell Injector o rings , first , dead cylinder second , cracked head third , they like to blow head gaskets if run hot ,hard, and overloaded, being in a boom truck is almost ideal for these engines . running at a decent rpm with moderate rpm , really good on fuel .
