I always took this video as Vessel literally trying to cut the girl out of his life. But, in the end, he only ended hurting himself and then starts the cycle over again.

I love how important the dancers are to this track. When they perform it live with dancers, the dancers steal the show. A reminder that music is also movement. Beautiful.
This is definitely a rabbit hole I would love to watch you go down in the future. Jaws is a great song by sleep token and definitely is the one that got me absolutely hooked.

I could be wrong, as they don't give interviews or any of those sorts, vessel writes everything except for the drums, your facial expression said it all how you feel 'bout the song, it's a testament to how far this band has evolved and how many new listeners are just in awe of them,.. keep going lads this is just the start of what will become an ingenious musical journey !!!
Vessel and II write mostly everything. III and IV were essentially touring members. However signing with RCA recently likely means they're going to play a larger part in the songwriting especially with IV coming out on stage with BMTH
I definitely agree with you about Vessel's voice. It is so haunting. If you like their pretty stuff, "Atlantic" is IMO their most beautiful song. Another really emotional one is "Are You Really Ok?".
If you want sheer beauty in lyrics and sing I highly recommend “drag me under” … it is highly underrated

Both great songs :) People sleep on their older stuff, because the new album got so popular, but the other two are just as good if not better. Telomeres is one of my favorites, beautiful song, but criminally underrated.

Man, when he sings this live... It's sad and powerful. This track is an anchored favorite.
Legit the only show I've ever been to where the crowd would get silent because we were in awe of his live performance. It was a truly beautiful experience.

I love my heavy stuff and harsh vocals, but this is still one of my favourites from Sleep Token, a couple years later.
“Frick!” Was also my thoughts exactly when I heard this for the first time as well
I take this as hes being crushed by the weight of the loss and memory of someone. So he tries again and again to cut them out but the emotional hold on him is too much and he fails.
So hes stuck in a cycle.
The fact that hes trying so hard to forget and get rid of the pain is in itself whats perpetuating the emotional struggle.

This band is SOOOO unique. The pass through a variety of genres ... THIS IS INSANE ... i mean i can listen some Pain Of Salvation vibes in a moment , and then they change to something else... this band is mindblowing

They’re known for amazing songs, but each being a unique experience. I would love to see you go down the rabbit hole! Vessel does everything aside from drums. They’re a genius. Worship!
As someone who has seen them live twice in the last 18 months, and have been listening since Sundowning was released, this is BY FAR my favourite ST song. This is their peak. Everything since is still great, but they captured something in this track that makes me come back to it over and over again.
The energy when that second chorus kicks in live is indescribable.
This isn't my favourite ST song but when I was front row, and they performed this live I started crying. It was overwhelming. I'll never forget that.
As someone who also got pulled into Sleep Token’s grasp (hypnosis if you will) I greatly recommend listening to their 3 albums back to back, starting with Sundowning (Bloodsport), This Place Will Become Your Tomb (The Love You Want), and ending with Take Me Back To Eden. They all tell a story of a relationship between Vessel (or Sleep) and a love gone wrong

I never can decide if I ever have a sleep token song because it’s so hard to pick a single song until I hear this one and every single time it feels like the first listen of it and reminds me that this is the one song from them that I’ve never lost my connection to. The lyrics, the stylization of the instruments, the video. It’s all perfect.
You pretty much nailed the meaning behind it. The choreography director, (the one in the middle dancing) gave and interview about making this. But it's extremely hard to find. But, yes that is the meaning of the video.

Would love to see you react to another band with a cult-like following: Avatar. Bloody Angel or A Secret Door are fairly good entry points to showcase their broad spectrum before diving headlong

Interesting to hear your interpretation of the video. To me him taking out a sword to go on an offensive, attempting to hold onto whatever level the relationship was at, but inevitably failing (missing in his flurry of swings) and as a result it went the other way and only ended up hurting himself even more (the suicide plunge). Thought the same on the ribbons, a token of every time he's gone through the same cycle of rage, going on the offense to rid the rage, but ends up wounding himself even more. Maybe a way of conveying the person he loved could have been so manipulative to the point they had the power to turn/twist it all around and convince that it's all on him.

This song is truly sad for me.
I was married for almost 20 years and I dealt with depression for almost 30 years. One night I tried to end myself. The day that I got into the hospital after my, obviously, failed try my wife of nearly 20 years filed papers.
It’s the absolute worst thing that I could’ve thought would happen.
Now I’m divorced, broke, and alone.
I guess it is what it is, right?

My interpretation was that.. the sword is the love. And he kept missing every time he tried to hit “give love” to the person he wanted. And he had so much love for her. So much so that eventually.. the love he had killed him.

I love ST. And I hate to be that guy who writes stupid comments about a band that I love. But to me, it seems like Vessel was just friendzoned and created one of the best trifectas of albums in existence because of it. Lol.

I know how he is feeling trying to move on trying to cut off but is consumed by his love though he is trying to cut the one who hurt him off but rather he is killing and separating himself , he's in fragments so instead of being scattered he would rather be consumed whole buried in her soul and heart where he always wanted to be.
I know this because I've tried to cut the woman out of my life but yet she without knowing still had power over me and just her memory killed me
Personally that lyric about getting the combination wrong hit me like a tonne of bricks.
My take on it was he's trying to get past her by attacking the thoughts and memories he has of her (literally in the video) dancing through his mind, but can't get past the hold she has on him which defeats him every time making him turn his attacks onto himself restarting the cycle
It's kinda loop as you said he is experiencing all over again and again,the girls in the vídeo,each of them has a ribbon,which he is hanging on the tree every time he fails to "cut" those dancers (whatever they represent) also the melody at the beginning is a loop because the song ends in the same way , repeating all over again and again 😭
If you really want an emotionally intention driven song, listen to "The apparition" off their new album. There is such a stone cold delivery that will leave you shook

This is a great song but is not in my top 10 by them. You could try The offering, Jaws, Ascensionism, Granite, Thread the needle or Chokehold, for example.

Probably the most simple, stupid reactions to sleep token I've watched. What you find profound is actually painfully apparent. You have a lot to learn young lady. Keep listening. But most importantly, learn to listen with your mouth closed.
I don't know why people like Sleep Token. Maybe it's just me, maybe I'm just a terrible person for not liking it, maybe because it's so pop-like, I just can't resonate with it. I often wonder to myself if I'm even hearing the same stuff that everyone else is hearing, because It's honestly terrible compared to a lot of other artists. I can acknowledge that the vocalist is a great singer, considering what he does, but its so eh. However, for an industry planted band, they're not the worst one out there that's for sure.
That's the beauty of music. Music is just that, music. It's the way our mind has been shaped from life experiences that make music work for 'us' individually. The fact you respect it doesn't work for you but does for others doesn't mean you're a terrible person lol. It just doesn't fire up your brain like it does for others, it's all subjective - and tha'ts fine!

@@chromesthesia There's plenty of industry planted bands out there. Sometimes these bands already existed and then later in their careers get drawn into it. Record labels build these bands specifically to bridge the gap between metal/rock and pop. Boosts record label numbers, attracts new audiences, gets radio play and mainstreams metal bands that tour with them, usually ones that would never reach larger audiences. Sometimes it's not even the whole band, it could be just one member of the band. Bad Wolves is one of those bands, Poppy is one, Bring Me The Horizon has become one, Asking Alexandria has become one, Sleep Token is definitely one. Anonymous members, lineup changes that bring no care to fans, music that is exactly the same as what we hear on the radio everyday, it's no different than listening to LewIs Capaldi. Not saying it's a terrible thing to happen or a bad idea, but there's probably enough of them already out there, we don't necessarily need more.
