My father got into bees roughly 2 years ago, works with his boss. A 2 man team for 1200 hives. He has tried to get me into bee's over the last year or so. I recently turned 19 and I'm taking him up for that offer now. My anxiety is very high about it but we all start somewhere
You'll be ok bro! Your comment was two years ago. So how are you going now? Did you get into it with your dad?
Hi..... Thank you 🎥👍👍👍
I'd like to get into beekeeping, too. Of course, there's a lot of stuff I'd like to do, but don't have time. I guess I'll have to keep living vicariously through you, Josh.
Nice video. We set up some hives today
you seem real my friend. i like it. im one week into beekeeping!
A great well explained video, enjoyed it thank you.
I'm a second year keeper and our hives are doing well
thanks
Hey there Josh haven't seen your videos in a bit.. But I found this one... Its awesome like the others.. Always good to see you working at it...
My husband wants to meet you if you do any classes in your area or in Central Texas.. Keep us informed thx
Very thorough coverage of what newbies need to know to become familiarized with the world of bee keeping.
Thanks...I hope it helps some folks with unraveling the mystery of their first package of bees
Great video. Thank you for explaining! I'm new and have a lot to learn.
sure enjoy your way of sharing information. gives me a little more confidence..
Glad to help buddy
Thanks for the great information and video!
You're fun :) Thank you. I am a newbee.
We use corregated cardboard for the smoker as there are always cardboard boxes to recycle, roll it up to the size of the smoker, light and away yo go.
Dude, i like your lessons. I learned alot. Have my sub.
okay love your channel. What I'm wondering is why do you have 2 honey supers full of broad?
What's with the machete and the baseball bat in the truck ?🤣🤣🤣
If you weren't on amazon I would totally buy some of those frame holders from you.
Good information . You touched on an important tip twice but didnt spend much time on it . That if you want your bees to move up into the super raise a frame from below to get them moving up . You also need a decent nectar flow. You did not mention rather you use queen excluders or not ? Often they are reluctant to move thru the queen excluders ,so tend to store more honey in the brood nest , which could lead to swarming !
Thanks for the great tips👍🏼
no prob!
Portugee Prepper job
Excellent good news buddy, just one thing make sure you do that thing when you veil up' oh man I was cracking up lmao
LOVE the smoker fail! And the rest of the video too.
funny how life gets in the way sometimes...that darn smoker wouldnt budge! Sometimes that's the best part of my vids...the fails! Hope ur a subscriber!
I subscribed after that fail! I've watched 3 videos so far. I am a new beekeeper this year and will be taping & posting every inspection. My bees come next week! I appreciate the humor and I know my videos will be boring in comparison but that isn't my goal anyway.
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer 👍👍👍
Hello from Canada
my bees where super active today
yep getting to that time of year! Saps rising!
I am going to start bee keeping.
What's that cool old cabin behind you?
Facial hair(beard ) darn I suffer that problem as well lol.
We use full suits with round veils not fencing veils as we find they are more restrictive with viewing due to the dumb wire.
Any way nice video 👍
Hey. Enjoyed your video.
What part of county you in.
An yes. Liked and subscribed.
Good video
Thanks brotha
Where can u by the metal piece that goes on the side of the hive to hang frames on?
amazon
Where did you get your hat???
Have you had problems with ants getting into your hives
Once and a while...spray a 3/4 strength bleach solution on the ground under the hive...usually stops the ant problem..just smells like pool water for a bit
You said you lost 4 out of 5 hives did you treat for mites last fall? We have around 60 hives and have found out the hard way about mites. When your smoker lid gets stuck heat it up with the tourch. Enjoying you channel been watching them one after another the last few nights. I have been inspired by your channel and have been wanting to start a small farm, do you have time to work it and still hold a job?
Yep still hold a job..and work my booty off on the farm every day that I am off..how do you treat ur hives for mites?
Stoney Ridge Farmer used OVA the last two years seems to be working
Where do you suggest we get our first bee's? We would really like to start now, but should we wait until spring? I fear them not having enough time to prepare for winter.
Starting now would surely set you up to fail, If you're gonna take the time to get some bees I recommend at the very least you buy this book it's beekeeping for dummies, here's a link through my amazon page (gives me a little tip to help with the channel)
amzn.to/2sKTWyx
That book has been a great reference. Next thing I would suggest is calling your local agriculture extension office and signing up for a local beekeeping course. This is very helpful and shows you all about bees. Normally you can order your bees at a discount from the local beekeepers association and you will have tons of knowledge to get started. Get ready, beekeeping is a bit expensive and initial startup cost for 2 hives can reach $1000! Hope this helps Mi
,👍👍
I'm not a dummy but I'll watch anyway
lol...oh we're all dummies at some point in our lives...don't ya think?
What size is your bee jacket. If you buy another . Sell yours to me ? I’m xx size . I don’t have bees and I do .. long story . Been stung 5 times and got another sting today . I don’t want to kill them . They pollinate my fruit trees. But there not on my property . In my back yard .
Not sure why you'd be stung in your back yard by honey bees unless you were smelling flowery lol....gotta save the bees for sure...I wear the suit when I weed whack around the hives
Stoney Ridge Farmer Don’t have land like you .. wish I did . Since I don’t still enjoy planting . So I have 30 fruit trees . Flowers from seed.and the nursery to keep them in my area . Wife thinks I’m crazy. Just getting ready 🏴☠️ for the real party .
Neonicotinoid poisoning is the greatest threat to bees .
I can't understand why you had a negative remark,a beginner or novice etc would find the video informative.
We're from the uk and have buck fast bees here.
Hopefully gonna have 9 hives rocking in early summer
lol I didnt even know I had a negative remark...checking it out now lol Thanks for the support buddy! Stick around tomorows vid we will release the new package of bees into the hive
Losing four out of five it's not a big deal? I invest money I invest my time for me it would be a big deal just my personal opinion
yep..but what can I do...cry about it or move on...beekeeping has been a looser on the farm for years...I enjoy it and want to have the pollinators..but it's a pure on hassle and a money looser! But so is cable TV ...I'd rather have the bees lol
4 for $24.99. That's what burlap sacks sell for here. Sigh.
Dang....check ag supply.....I think they have a website....also check out ur local dollar stores or big lots in the craft area....sometimes they sell them in big rolls...or walmart in the fabric section just get it by the foot! Hope this helps
THANK YOU! Great ideas. I know our Walmart does not have a fabric section, but will check extension office (would never have thought of them), there are no crafts stores around here, but one town over (about 20 miles) does.
I use dried grass from my yard. Works great.
It is absolutely a big deal that you lost 4 out of 5 hives.. Did you not feed them over winter? These are living beings that you are responsible for..
Good video ...but the hat ...
Isn’t learning beekeeping from a guy that loses 4 out of 5 hives in one year like getting marital advice from a divorced person....or learning to live clean and sober from a drunk and high guy in the local bar? Jess’ wundrin’.....
Show me a beekeeper in the last 10 years that hasn't lost more than 1/3 to 1/2 of his bees and I'll show you an untruthful person. The simple fact is that keeping bees alive is challenging...it's not like it was in the 1970s...more pests, GMO and pesticides out there buddy
