Atlanta man hijacks transit bus and leads police on chaotic chase before getting arrested

- A 39-year-old suspect is in custody and a passenger is dead after a chaotic chase involving authorities and a Gwinnett County transit bus on June 11, 2024, according to the Atlanta Police Department.
Atlanta Police Chief Darin Schierbaum said that when police received the first 911 call, an officer responded to 45 Ivan Allen Junior Boulevard one minute later, and when the officer arrived, he saw the suspect inside the bus, but the suspect forced the driver to drive off at gunpoint. That's when officers were alerted and responded to follow the bus, which had 17 passengers on board when it was hijacked.
The suspect, identified on Wednesday as 39-year-old Joseph Grier, allegedly held the driver at gunpoint across multiple jurisdictions, Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens said in a Tuesday evening press conference. Dickens said the suspect has 19 prior arrests, including cycles where he was armed with a handgun. The Fulton County medical examiner has identified the man killed as 58-year-old Ernest Byrd Jr.

@nicki8731 now I see why the atlanta police department is hiring. I'm moving over there soon as I just recently applied. I live in miami rn, and everyone is telling me not to move over there as the crime is bad, but the crime in miami is bad too, and the cost of living and salary is better in atlanta compared to miami. The only thing that is worse is traffic, at least what I've heard. Hopefully, the drivers are better. Miami (well, really FL drivers in general) are pretty garbage at driving, which is why the car insurance is ridiculously expensive.
@@Snarky_Queen I live on the outskirts of Atlanta (but businesses still have "Atlanta" in their names), and the crime here is basically zero. The cost of living is definitely cheaper than Miami, but it again depends where. Yes, we're famous for our horrible traffic, but as someone born and raised here, I don't really mind it. I see it more as a part of my commute rather than an obstacle. I haven't been in Miami long enough to compare the drivers, but I wouldn't complement ours 😂
