#vangelis #beaubourg #review
If you dislike this one, you'll detest Invisible Connections! Stay well clear. See you Later is an interesting one if you fancy reviewing another of his, or maybe Soil Festivities for something more ambient.
A definite misstep. I agree it is too random with no structures. An oddity but least shows ambition. 1 play is more than enough and I really like his stuff.
i actually like this one
If you want to listen to ambient Vangelis go for "Creation Du Monde", from "L'Apocalypse des Animaux", 1973 (but recorded in 1970).
challenging would be a polite way of putting it
Prob my fave Vangelis album!
I am not really familiar with Vangelis in general, but I am definitely a fan of the Jon & Vangelis albums. The Friends of Mr. Cairo and Short Stories in particular.
You'd do well to also stay away from Vangelis' "Invisible Connections" and George Harrison's "Electronic Sound". Both are from the school of, "Let's put some random settings on the ol' synth, hit "RECORD", throw the cat on it, and deem it "avant garde' in case anyone calls "bullshit" on our bullshit.
Reminds me of Zappa and Pertwee era Doctor Who.
I've got vangelis vinyl about 3or4 made in80‘s
his work of soundtruck for the movie blade runner that was unlereaced in those time I thought.
I smiled.... "it seems so amazingly random".
It’s terrible, remember buying it 2nd hand for £1.50 and still feeling robbed.
Not one of my favourites-think i only played it once-in all these years
If Darren hasn't completely put you off this already - just don't buy it! Sadly it has been pressed from a faulty master, which MOV were not aware of when I reported it to them. They said they are looking into it, but I have heard nothing further back in the last two weeks. The pitch fluctuates in several places, as if the tape machine noticeably slows down and then speeds back up again. It's a known issue that some releases have thankfully avoided (presumably by using an alternative master) but sadly not here. This is, of course, such a weird album, that anyone who doesn't know it well might think it was intentional. But sadly it isn't. I would encourage anyone who has it (or still wants it) to contact MOV and insist they recall this pressing and redo it correctly.
@@TheDarrenLock Actually you can, proven by Mythbusters
I agree. Too random. I like a lot of his other albums.
IMO, the most sonically interesting part of this album comes toward the end of side B, the last three minutes or so that were used as part of Carl Sagan's "Cosmos" soundtrack. The rest of it is tedious and kind of infuriating. If a no-name artist put out a record like this, most people would say it's rubbish and it wouldn't sell. Put Vangelis' name on it though and it might move a few copies.
really? no "soil festivities"? no "the city"? no ridiculously non-existent "blade runner" ost?
Your voice is out of Sync, difficult to watch
One of Vangelis more experimental recordings which i quite enjoy
I managed to appreciate Invisible Connections, but not Beaubourg. It
sounds like it is made by a refrigerator that suddenly developed
consciousness. Even Ummagumma disk 2 is better. Its bad!
It's the only Vangelis album that I never have. I can't stand it.
Not my favourite album. I've listened to it once and I can't get my 39 minutes back.
Vangelis himself says this is crap. Enough said.
@@TheDarrenLock Can't remember where I read the interview, but he indeed used the term "crap"
@@TheDarrenLock Here: Peter:
In the past you had records like for example „Beaubourg“ that, let’s say, departed from the traditional Vangelis realm. Was that sort of a rebellion or simply an experiment or an attempt to finding yourself?
Vangelis:
I can’t understand how is possible to discuss and take it seriously an architecture monstrosity like Beaubourg which led me to create another monstrosity the album Beaubourg which I never took it seriously and I never felt proud of it. So, let’s not continue talking about such a crap.

I shall give this one a miss.
When he's good, he's very good but when he's not, he's crap. Bloody awful in fact
I'll pass on this album reissue - you play it once and put it in your collection to be forgotten about.
Almost deliberately unlistenable.
