- This should be the last of the major wrenching on this trip (I Hope!) At the time of this upload, it's been about two weeks since we splashed Kon Tiki III into the Caloosahatchee. So far, so good. Again I can't help but be thankful that Angel gave us the wrong rotation engine at first. I would have been in a heckuva fix if he hadn't. The number of other people to thank is long. Mike for all his efforts, not to mention him initially talking me into this amazing, once in a lifetime journey. Thanks to all my subscribers and friends back home who contributed towards fuel and the engine fix. Thanks to all the folks at auto parts stores who are there for all of us. And to Pelican for encouraging me generously through this step of my life. They truly are an amazing company without whom, these ventures of mine would be very difficult. Sincere thanks to my friends at Pelican! Hopefully when I catch up on making videos, I'll have some real time to get out there and do some fishing. Sitting on the mooring ball and watching all the boats going by here at Fort Pierce is torturous ;^) It's been too windy anyway I keep telling myself. Back to the editing......

Mike is one of those awesome friends everyone wants and needs.
Marty you have a Angel looking over your boat. What a great job getting her back in the water, with a clean bill of health. It must be nice to have such a good friend like Mike. Great video.
Zoff’s life!!!use,break,fix,repeat,yeah,its a beautiful life.many hands make light work
Thanks for an excellent update Marty. Don't ever doubt yourself about replacing both engines. You did the right thing. If you have two of something and one goes bad, you can usually bet your arse that number two won't be far behind it. Well done you, Mike, and Angel. The drone footage of KT being re-launched was great too - I saw you had the Drone out in Mike's video. Nice one dude - stay safe & well. 👍👍 🇬🇧
I made many hydraulic lines when I worked at Napa. Told the owner one day that cutting the hoses smelled like crap.. He replied with, "smells like money to me!" Haha
Water got into it someplace and mixed with the oil. So really good move to replace it 👍.
yep theres no telling where else that water got to
Mmmm
Head gasket, although there are 2 heads. If ones worn then the other not far behind unless something has caused the head to go ie excessive heat warping it, they looked to be steel not alli . That was good to see other engine with sump off and loose big ends.
Very happy to know Marty got two new motors, Plain sailing round the loop keep us entertained. I just need a haircut soon, still in lockdown
Marty, your patience and perseverance throughout this ordeal has been downright inspiring. If I were to deal with that myself, there is not a chance I could have stayed as calm and collected as you, but I will try, now that I have seen how far a man can be pushed haha! I am looking forward to hearing those motors fire up and to watching the stress fade away from you marty!
Marty, it is not a problem, it is an adventure, ( said from my couch in an air conditioned apartment.) 👌😎
Mike is a man after my own heart. I put my oil pick up line on the same way
Great job. You should definitely make the great loop with those engines. Great job Marty.
Looks like a car distributor with vacuum advance. The car distributor will work but if you get a fuel leak the distributor will be a ignition source and your boat will catch fire. Great job swapping out the engines. I love inboard boats.
Woo hooo! Can't wait for the next vid, in a whole new bit of Florida, under power with two engines with that brand new smell :)
Marty your editing-in clips of TV shows is hysterical :)
Great decision to change both motors out.. Angel is a real angel.
Marty,
Glad to see you replacing both engines.
My father had 4 cruisers over the years and the third in the series we had for 30 years and 1 month. After 16 years of great boating in So. California, the original Chrysler 440's were getting tired.
We found two brand new 440's at a yard that was having trouble selling them. The Crusader engines (454) were more popular apparently.. Anyway, we replaced the old with the new along with two new fuel tanks and continued boating for 14 more years on the new engines before selling the boat and purchasing the 4th in the series.
It turned out to be a good decision.
Looking forward to the trip through the loop.
Nice work Marty and Mike! Don’t forget to properly break in the engines for about 30 minutes and change the oil and filters.
Already knew you were back underway but this video was awesome to see anyway! Getting an idea what you guys had to go through to get it back together. Thanks for sharing this.
These videos get better and better every time!
Funny clips
Nice to have 2 new engines.
That boat is suddenly a lot more attractive to me.
Always happy to help a fellow boater. See you on Lake Erie soon.
We all get by with a little help from our friends.
Marty love your Channel nothing seems to Faze you guys so much patience what ever happens..you the man..
Angel is the master upseller. Oh guys, my bad I made that one for the other side of your boat. I guess we can rebuild it for the starboard side, but I would really recommend just replacing the port as well. LOL Kidding of course. Love seeing that clean bottom of the engine compartment.
I bet you are glad to have both Motors replaced in ready to go safe travels buddy
Great to see you back on the water again!!
Really glad for you that friends (new friends and old) came thru for you!. It is encouraging to see the engine builder be so honest and helpful! Hell I bet his business will soar as people know he is a gem!
A blessing??? From an Angel??? Sounds about right to me. lol It's go time Marty. In the words of AC/DC... Have a drink on me... well for me anyhow.
Dodged a bullet with that port engine. As has been said, that was definitely water getting past the manifold gasket and mixing with oil. Yikes. Gotta say I’m surprised you launched before completed assembly and a shore firing of both engines, but I’ve spent some summers working in boat yards and understand schedules sometimes (especially when involving the lift and an available operator) require flexibility. I smiled wide when I saw the custom crimped oil hoses. Good call! And good luck!!🍀
We call that a milkshake... Makes sense given the steam you had coming out of the exhaust. Good idea to swap.
I'm fascinated by folks with the attitude " I don't need nobody" We all get by with a little help from our friends..Great video Marty and Mike
Best way to do it. I ll get it done
Nicely done Marty, nicely done.
We could all use more friends like Mike.
So glad you got to replace both motors at the same time but most of all happy to see you back in the water now have a little fun you deserve it
Amazing video! THX Marty and Mike
That was great news now you can power up on two motors . Looking forward for the next video .
holy carp bud yea that gaskets chot thank god you opened er up an found out the deal inside, itll be the best thing to have two brandy dandy motors im sure there wont be any problems for a long time, an the little edits you tossed in this one make things alot lighter hearted an gave me a few laughs :) big shout out to Angel for being so helpful an big thanks to the folks that donate for keeping your dream going,
Hailey thiCC
Good news 🙂 doing what needs to be done 👍

God's speed and fair winds Captain.
Ya Duel motors are just like a pair of shoes 👠.. You don’t just buy one lol. 👍👍👍
dual- two of something. duel- a deadly contest between two people
It was a right decision everything you are doing is correct you are on the right road no lokbacks keep going
Mike!!!!!! is the man. What a friend you have there Marty.
best of luck my friend..
Weldone Marty..weldone Mike..
Weldone!
Good for you man, safe travels to you.
I need a Mike for my self.
Go Kon Tiki!
Great news.
Now the bad news. You actually wrote that "This should be the last of the major wrenching..." That almost guarantees some more major wrenching in the future. LOL. Wishing you the best of luck and looking forward to the upcoming videos.
Marty killed me with the “oh yeah you like that” at 5:15 and the “oh is my hole showing” 😂 Obviously not pleased with the situation, but always in good spirits!
Gorgeous water in the background!!
I put a small tack weld on the oil pump pick up. Sbc in boats are known to fall out in boats.
Way to keep your head up!
Angel seems like a great guy, I’m going to throw some business his way when the time comes in a month or so 👍👍👍
Finally things working out great!
So nice to see her in the water again! greatings from Sweden
lol, love the Raiders of the lost ark sample.
Great work Marty, glad to see so much progress and support!
Less Tiki and fake grass and more Tuneups and proper maintenance
great work Marty
Good luck Marty we love watching your adventure
Great big 👍
Hey nice video
Awesome congratulations 🎈🎊🍾🎉
on 2 new motors
Love the videos keep it
We will be watching from Texas
I love how you put the show clips in there. lol I know how much harder it was to do the motors, than the video shows, since I've worked on cars all my life. But in a boat with not much room had to be crazy. I enjoy your videos. Great job.
On the day you left I told my wife I see two new motors in your future. Glad you are back in the water with some solid motors!
Great video man stay safe
Very Send Me An Angel Vibes! Congrats
The Jaws clip lol.
Such a good feeling to start the video on anchor 😊
Great vid
Glad you decided to replace both motors. Now you're truly stylin' 👍
Yay! Finally back in the water!!
OMG, I'm making chocolate mousse for dessert now!
I think it was a great move to replace both of them
So many references so fast. :) haha nice ones
Awesome!
I was thinking the same thing 👍
Glad to see you catching up with vids. I bet is a relief each time you get one of the memory banks out lol.
WOW - that goo looked like espuma for Cafe Cubana!
Make sure you prime the oil pumps Marty. You could spin a bearing or worst.
Notice you have new fuel pumps. Did you use marine fuel pumps they have a vent tube with a hose going to the flame arrester. If you used a car fuel pump when the diaphragm goes bad it will pump fuel into your bilge and then the car distributors will ignite the fuel vapors and the boat blows up.
good for you Marty i hope you have invested in some alarms for heat and water temps not just the gauges Marty i also been watching so see what your fuel consumption might be in hrs to see what your best speed underway please make a Maintenance schedule
Don’t forget to change out your break in oil and filter.
Hey Marty, I thought it was the port side engine that had failed due to the oil pressure but you pulled the starboard side first to replace.
Hey Marty, that milky emulsion can be normal condensation mixing with the engine oil, it depends on coming up to temp to drive the water off as steam. its why thermostats are SO important. that glop ruins engines as water is bad on bearings.
Looks like water got in your lifter valley(under your intake manifold) from your intake water jacket gasket corrosion and or head or block crack due to overheating or no oil,,water mixed with oil will turn that yellow color l,,I see you got the screw in oil lines I'm glad you did your own work now you can appreciate my life trade as a mechanic it's a hard way to make a living,
I can see the grey hairs slowly disappearing from Marty's head.
Oh the cliffhangers!!! The suspense is killing me...
Would have been a good idea to have the oil pickup tube tack welded to keep it from coming loose.
Swap in a couple Kubota diesels. Low rpm high torque very reliable
I would have put a fresh coat of gel coat in the engine bays before installing the new engines would have brightened it up nicely
My luck that engine hoist would have gone right through that deck lol. Dont call me black cloud for nothin
