  • Ah yes, the original Mortal Kombat movie.
The second movie I ever saw in cinema after my very first one - The Lion King (1994).
Needless to say, quite a difference :D
Mortal Kombat (1992) - PC GAME - was my first "beat them up" game and I still consider these game-series to be the best in it's genre to this day.
The pinnacle if MK PC games was probably the 3rd release of the same year in 1995 - what a blast.
    ...but back into the movie:
Although this very scene I could still call as passable for combat choreography, the rest of the fights in the movie with perhaps exclusion of Liu Kang VS Reptile could be easily considered to be laughable in today's age.
However, this came out when the closest we got to the martial arts in movies was Jean Claude Van Dam and Jackie Chen action scenes.
The first relying on a particular spectacular kick, and the other on comedy elements. Not quite an competition really.
As a kid, my favourite character in MK games was - you guessed it - Johnny Cage.
Why? Well, he was a human (unlike the other half-gods a.k.a. Marvel or DC characters), Caucasian like me, and one of the good guys - you could say he was relatable.
[You can't imagine my disappointment when Johnny was the first kill in Mortal Kombat: Annihilation (1997) - piss on you writers :D]
But, second best was Scorpion - because he was cool, and now and then we also want to play the bad "tough" guy. Why not? It's fun to image.
So this scene was of course my favourite, with the best choreography and also with the result I was hoping for ;) - quite a win.
Love the unexpected Easter Egg at the end - with "Johny Cage - to his greatest fan" :D; perfect!
Also, the soundtrack was probably the best part about both movies. Very fitting!
So why did I choose this specific clip today? Well, because despite of me seeing this as a child all these years ago and not since. Despite me not touching any MK game for more than two decades, both characters left strong impression on me, and I used them both as inspiration for characters in my own production - books.
Yeah, this is shameless plug - but I would be stupid not to try use the ONLY platform I have on social medias, and to try to spread some word.
Hope that you don't mind, it's not like I stuff it in your face mid video or something.

Caution advised, it is graphic in content - I have grown into a sick person watching this type of stuff and worse, much worse.
JK - I'm perfectly fine, but I still like to fantasise - in a realistic way. Thus, violence ain't pretty, decision and actions have consequences.
If not, I hope you at least enjoyed this clip! See you in the next one!

    So cheesy, but it's a 90's classic.

I didn't know Scorpion's spear thing came from inside his hand and it was alive.

It was an artistic depiction in the original movie alone. I don't think any PC game ever depicted it as thing "alive".

Yes, like in all 1990s movies ;), this was actually very decent for the time period.

You should see the other stuff coming out in 1990s, great movies bad damn the action sequences did miles improvements since. (also demand for actual actors who could fight, or be trained to be able to at least to look like they can fight)
