So I've never been much of a social media user, but I figure since the channel has been growing so much lately, I should at least have a Twitter account. You can find the link to it in the description. There's not much there right now, but I plan to use it for posting updates for all of the different projects I'm working on, as well as maybe use it for talking with you guys some more.
Pikasprey Yellow lol i am not much of a social media user either
Whoa, I think I subscribed around 9k subs and you're already up to 25k? That's great dude! So much growth in so little time. I guess it's just a sign of great content.
Pikasprey Yellow wow, when I subbed around a month ago, you had 2,000 subs. Great content. Keep up the work
Well, seeing as the Arkham games had stuff that the makers themselves had to release how to get to them/ that they even existed twice. So Yes, yes I think it will continue.
Alex Huneault Are you a little lost bud?
Ermac in MK1 started when people noticed that there was a "Reptile count" and "ERMAC count" counter in the arcade cabinet debug info. People assumed that ERMAC is another character, while really it stood for "Error Macro", and had nothing to do with another character. The attention towards this, however, ended up in the creation of an actual Ermac character in later games.
Thx
@Dom LS1 it was in the games debug info
I believe that's also why the UMK3 announcer called him 'Air'mac. Since he was a combination of Error and Macro. Sadly got dropped in later games in favor of a more normal pronunciation with how the name is spelled.
This reminds me of Armok from Dwarf Fortress, actually; the in-game name for the God of Blood, but the name originated from the ARM_OK variable determining, hold on, if I remember right, whether an entity's arm was okay or not.
Hey I main ERMAC
People probably didn't "figure out" the Jade one. One of the most common AI exploits in MK games is spamming sweep kick, so a lot of people probably found it accidentally.
...that would actually help explain why the A.I. could generally beat everything you tried but was somehow still suseptible to the sweep.
I found Jade by accident just by being bad. True story!
Lol for me I was doing jump kicks and found her by accident
Yes, I did it once. I came to fight her, but had no idea how I got there.
😂 that's 😅😂👍
Ermac and Reptile to me are among the best in the games. Reptile was new, fresh, mysterious and you never saw anything like that before so having the beginning of your round hijacked by some green clad ninja who spoke cryptically was enthralling. Ermac is pretty much a character made through pure fanservice since he became something of an urban legend in arcades and even his backstory being that he's made up of thousands of warrior souls can be taken as a sly reference to the amount of quarters people dropped in MK1 cabinets to try and discover him.
Fun fact, in Shaolin Monks for PS2 they have Ermac as a secret boss fight. You encounter him in the Warrior Shrine portion and he's disguised as a Scorpion statue. The rumor was Ermac being a red Scorpion and the infamous fake picture from EGM had "Ermac" fighting in the Warrior Shrine. A very cool nod to the genesis of the character.

Speaking of “Not having enough graphics memory for additional features“
In the first game, Shang Tsung was supposed to have his own unique moves but there wasn’t enough graphics memory available to do that. Instead, they had the character “Morph” into other characters. This way they could reuse the animations & memory allocated for the other players & treat those re-runs as a legit Bossfight - all without having to increase the hardware specs.
It worked so well, we customers kept blasting quarters into the Arcade’s [glorified slot] machine, none the wiser.
But damn that was some scandalous AI. Downright nefarious, with that weasel grab and instant override.
Cheers!
To add to this, the roster included Goro, having battled him just before this point. So a player could potentially have to kontend with a busted Goro AI back to back, albeit for an unpredictably brief amount of time the second time around, if at all.
As this is mortal kombat I made it accurate

I like the fact that for fairness, 50 wins was shortened to 25. Then later, in MK11, it’s required to get 50 fatalities on each non guest character to unlock special bonus gear an things… but for fairness they had to knock it down to 25.

I bet everyone pretty much lost their minds when reptile became a playable character in Mortal Kombat 2
I DID
They did. I remember thinking "holy shit he's got Sub Zero's and Scorpion's moves; why would anyone use anybody BUT Reptile?" Then it came out that he'd get his own moveset, which turned out to make him the shittiest character in the game. The Force Ball was too slow and the Acid Spit was quick but did little damage.
Dan McCarthy You probably sucked ass at playing him then cause I won so much money cheesing people with Reptile back then. Same with Stryker when MK3 came out
@@danmccarthy4700 Reptile was actually one of the best characters in the game. He was the first character that I was even able to win the game with.
I definitely did and kept the game so long, my momma started getting threats from family video 😂
One of my first times playing Mortal Kombat with my dad as a very young kid, Reptile appeared and gave the "blocking will get you nowhere" tip and my dad was shocked because he'd never seen that before. I took it as a sign and never used block in ANY game after that. 14 years later, and I'm using a shield in Skyrim for the first time and wondering just how much I missed out on.
(Don't get me started on Dark Souls)
To those who want to know how unlocking Donny Rage works within the intricacies of old arcade/gaming hardware:
- All his moves from Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Liu Kang, and Rex the Hedgehog are just the game switching to those characters since he's nothing but a red shadow. Kids didn't knew any better back then.
- You got to beat the game with no continues: The game kept count of this.
- Your first name has to contain the letter A: Just input your initials with the letter A first, just like that.
- On a Tuesday night: There was a built-in calendar in the game so it knew what day it was.
- When the moon is full: There was a super-secret feature that the arcade operator had to swear never to reveal in punishment of DEATH (or a lawsuit, I can't remember) that kept track of the lunar phases when set.
- While holding the controller upside down: This works for both the arcade and home console believe it or not. The game simply detects if you are hitting Up as Down and Left as Right in a confusing manner, thus it would assume you are using a controller or the arcade stick "upside down". Just jiggle up and down a lot and you'll probably get it.
- Balancing a full egg carton on your head while a Tibetan monk performs a wicked flute solo in the corner of your room: At the time, it was en vouge to hire a Tibetan monk to entertain your guest during so it would be easier to hire one in the time frame. Anyway, there was a secret camera in specialized arcade units that would detect both the eggs on your head and the monk in the corner of the room and it detected if there was a corner with advance-for-its-time scanning technology (this trick did not work if it did not detect the southwest corner of the room). Later revisions had no camera so the arcade operator had to wear a monk's outfit as part of the contract from Midway to keep the secret alive (learning the flute was not necessary, the game never detected if a monk played it in the first place because this is 90's technology, it couldn't actually do it, duh!).
If you did all this, then Donny Rage would appear on the screen, yell out "Beat me or suffer!", and the fight would begin. However, if you didn't beat him, the game would crash and a few seconds later, he would pop out of the game, grab you, take you into the game, and a white flash would appear that would erase you from everyone's memory. Then the entire arcade unit/game console would disappear without a trace and you would be trapped in a limbo within the MK2 game itself as a dead prop in the acid stage for all eternity.

Side Note: When I was in, maybe 6th grade(?) my teacher had us write letters to someone famous, or that we admired, and being a dumb little kid I thought about "the makers of mortal kombat 2!" so I wrote to Acclaim and they sent me something I still have, and haven't seen anywhere else. It was a full poster(I'm talking movie theater sized poster) featuring all of the MK2 characters, with in game screen shots and all of their moves and fatalities listed besides them. Let me tell you, as a little kid this was the coolest fucking thing I'd ever gotten. Also, do you know how cool you are when you're the kid who knows ALL, fuckin ALL, the fatalities, friendships, and babalities?

I feel like it may be possible to put stuff like this in modern games but it will take a lot of hard work and creativity. Like how COD Zombies Easter Eggs are made. There are teams of CZcamsrs going on hunts trying to decipher them when a new map drops and it's a great community to be apart of.
Nope. The fun of putting advanced secret stuff died when Ed McMillen expressed how disappointed he was that data miners found how to unlock The Lost in The Binding of Isaac. For indie companies, where’s the fun in making these kinds of elaborate secret character methods when people can just hack the game and find everything? And for big companies (looking at you Netherrealm and Capcom), where’s the profit? Just leak a picture of the character and release them as DLC for $10. Nope, the era of fun secret characters is over.
"apart"? seriously? when used in that way, "a part" is two words. Ironically, when you spell it as one word like that, it sounds like you're saying the exact opposite of what you mean.

I got it, Donny Rage is actually Johnny Cage's distant cousin who just got out of prison for armed robbery.
The only reason he can shoot fire out of his elbows is because he ate a magical egg drowned in hot sauce, eggshell included, all while playing the flute, after finding out he's the reincarnation of a legendary warrior from another dimension that was feared for his power, named Rex the Hedgehog.

Something lost in modern age of CZcams and gaming websites is the urban mystery element some games used to have. Rumors of hidden characters, secret areas and endings, etc. Nowadays we can look inside games and see everything that's hidden in the code, but back in the day you never knew for certain, and it kept us wondering if there was something more to discover.
I heard a story that in the gaming cabinets of MK there sometimes was an error, which made Scorpion red and gave him name of Ermac, which obviously stands for Error Macro. The colour Scorpion rocked is the default colour of ninja costume in the MK studio - actor wore red ninja costume, when Scorpion and Sub-Zeros moves were captured, and then costumes were recoloured digitally.

there was an arkham asylum secret that was unfounded and no one knew it existed until the devs told everyone because know one was even close to finding it and they wanted people to know about it. The binding of isaac also had a crazy secret that had people going IRL to find clues. There was a MOTORCYCLE game that hid a buncha keys IRL with clues in game. Its cool when devs do this but i feel devs become more and more jaded because the secrets are found so easily. I hope they keep doing it
MKX had secret brutalities and a secret way to unlock Cyber Sub-Zero... it also had a way to secret-fighter Reptile in the Klassic Tower and I'm pretty sure MK9 let you have a secret fighter with Smoke.
Coming after MK11’s release, the Krypt is so awesome, and there are so many easter eggs to other characters.
You can find Kenshi’s decomposed body and you can take his blindfold and wear it as a bandana.
You can find Ermac falling onto a spike if you go to the bottom of the pit.
You can find Kano’s skeleton at the head of one of Goro’s dinner tables, a reference to one of the movies.
Fuck, even REPTILE appears!
But, they missed out on a golden opportunity.
Reptile is found in Goro’s lair, next to a skeleton of a Zaterran (one of Reptile’s race). Now, they missed out on putting Reptile at the bottom of the Pit, where you find Ermac.
After you hit him the first time he will go to the bottom of the pit as one of his locations
Jayy Oh.
Reptile near a skeleton of his race is fiting since in lore (that i know) his race is extinct.
"Reptile gives a hint relating to the bottom of the Pit. You need to perform two fatalities to unlock Reptile. However, the Pit's stage fatalities don't count."
That...seems unusually counterintuitive, even for a sequence of events which includes "Hope Santa flies in front of the moon".
Oddly, the Pit's stage fatality doesn't count as a fatality at all in the game.
Counterintuitive only on hindsight. It was in MK2 did stage fatalities count as fatalities.
You don't get the "fatality" voice clip or the bonus points for a fatality when you do the Pit finisher, so the game probably doesn't recognize it as a fatality.
Something that's odd is if you do Liu Kang's input to knock the opponent off, it does announce Fatality
@@paige64bitgamerfurry3 Well, that's because Liu Kang's finisher counts as a fatality normally... it would've been funny if the other uppercut fatality in the game, Johnny Cage's, showed the opponent's head flying into the Pit tho :P
i can confirm Donny Rage is real..... Only took me 15 years.
Given the online feature we can just have hints that tease things like unlockable characters saying "To find me you must be connected" meaning hooked to the internet and playing online. The next hint could be "Digging will get you nowhere" could refer to the character being only shown as sprite in offline mode, meaning you would have to do any secret online tasks, well, online and not offline.
Basically make the hidden characters only accessible online and have them be downloaded into your game as a reward for beating them. Only show sprites and animations to show the character giving their hints, that way no one just tries to our them in the game since they have no hit boxes or actions offline.

At least they haven't gone to Call of Duty levels of insane things you need to do to unlock them, it's ruined COD as people are more obsessed in working out how to unlock the easter eggs, than playing the actual game.

With the clue of "You can not defeat me" you obiously going to know that: If you're not going to win, you're going to "Kneel DOWN"
The only explenation i found
So cryptic :)
I wasn’t good enough to find them back in day. Did mk I reptile or the me ii hidden characters have a fatality?
Matthew - I don't think so. They'd just uppercut you as far as I know.
I can't remember. CPU characters so rarely did fatalities that even if the secret characters can the odds of it happening is low.
Yeah, but when they did it (at least back when it came out and there were still a lot of secrets), it was so cool! :) Ever accidentally pull off a fatality and act like you meant it? LOL
well now days you have to pay at least 6 dollars to see a new mortal kombat character so i wish they could just go back to the weird clues instead of charging us
The thing is secret characters are pointless now. The ease of access to the internet means everybody knows how to get them the moment the game is launched.
@@THENAMEISQUICKMAN yea I just learned all the secrets to mk1 and mk2 from the boredom of my couch
12:05 that was the moment when he turned into the Angry Video Game Need.....
As far as I know, Reptile started looking more like he does now because he spent more and more time away from Kameleon (the queen of the Raptor Race) This effect would apply to any member of the Raptor race spending more time away from her. In the end of MK X, he finds more members of the Raptor race. So maybe, if he appears in future titles, he'll appear more human.
so many memories... I used to play MK1 A LOT in my genesis as a kid, by watching this I remembered that one and only time I glitched The Pit and the background turned white(ish) during the stage fatality , I spend so many months trying to redo that one... did anyone got that glitch back in the day?? pd: ermac stands for error macro
he was also a flesh colored reptile that appeared if you did it on an endurance stage. and only certain versions. i couldn't believe my eyes when i saw it! i pinched myself to see of it was real. its a "real" glitch and "really" random specific version of the arcade. my local theatre had it. but none of the other ones in town. spent the last 20+ years trying to find it!
Wow, sounds like you almost unlocked Thor, Raiden's cousin twice removed! :O
What I think for Jade: fight in goros lair, without blocking, and before the "?". You also must be fighting kano as sonya or fight sonya as kano
Edit: I was wrong.
The "Chun Who?" clue does make sense since besides Street Fighter being the biggest rival to MK back in the arcade days. Chun-Li is famous for her high and middle kicks. To unlock Jade you have to do low kicks, so you are basically doing what Chun-Li does which is fighting with kicks but doing only lows.
I really do miss secrets in videogames. I mean there were some very nice hidden Cyberware Weapons in Cyberpunk 2077's open world. Then because of internet everyone was running around finding these amazing weapons as soon as they could in the game and CDPR decided to take them all away. Completely removed from the game because the internet turned a secret into META.
To unlock the hidden character Mayonnaise, you have to play through the game and beat it with Donny Rage and only use Hadoukens throughout the whole game while eating a jar of mayonnaise and not looking while doing it. Oh and you have to have finished the jar by the time you beat Shang Tsung, and your full name has to have all the letters of mayonnaise, or else your game will never work ever again!
Mayonnaise has the moves of Meat, Mokap, Donny Rage, and Derp-Derp the Derp-Derp. Lol
seems like a hard fight cus the ball atack and cleaver
i won :V
1N51D3R 13 what name will you need
This sounds quite reasonable
Kano and Sonja have there hands tied up. They can only fight with their feet. It's a good hint
vicegealgood interesting... but still cryptic.
Of course it's cryptic. It's a fucking hint.
I don't think Midway though of that......
FailTrain huh...good observation
Fusion they did know that they created the game lol
Great video, so many awesome memories about the games. I was only missing the fact about how Ermac got his name, it is such a great geekie deteail.
After 3 years ever since this videos release... I finally defeated Donny Rage.
Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Rain, Reptile, Ermac... The skittle ninjas!

Skittle Ninjas...Taste the Fatality...
ok. zoniken wins. well played.
Mr Vampire LOLOL
I guess smoke waz supposed to be orange
My character: kiu lang. a fully black Liu kang. Has the moves of every character, and Dr mario. How to unlock him: beat goro five times without taking damage, on a Saturday night, when the moon is a crescent, when the star wars episode one ending is playing, and you have to beat pokemon red during the match. If you beat him you get to play as him and you get 100,000,000 million points.

😂😂
Will it work if I'm playing Pokémon Red on 3DS Virtual Console, or does it have to be a physical copy played on an original Game Boy?
Either way it works
Do I have to beat Pokemon Red with a Ditto?
LMAOOOOO WTF
This video's so damn good I had to watch it for the third time. Keep up the good work!
16:17 "Chun who" is super clear compared to Mortal Kombat One
Nice video. A necessary one.
"Lucina is my waifu" great reasoning right there
Right
17:54
i lost my shit at this, this segment was hilarious
Same here
Ikr a Google ad
when i beat silent hill, I found the dog ending first , i was so confused.
lol no you didn't.
Considering you need least 3 endings unlocked already to view the dog ending, I sincerely doubt it 🤷♂️😂😂
you mean when you played your older sibling's game you found the dog ending
@@technopoptart Nope I am 35, I beat this game on my own, I've always 100% every game I played, and when I realized i had gotten access to the key, I went back and got it right away and well I got the dog ending. Not my older sibling.
They don't do this anymore because instead they call it DLC and make you pay for it
I do miss secrets like this. How to beat the PT demo was the closet thing we got to a modern day video game secret. Also figuring out how to beat raids like in games like Destiny for the first time or discovering secret weapon unlocks in it. It got people talking like the old days.
Thanks to my renewed interest in MK with the new movie, I came across this video. Love the idea, hope to see more of them eventually.
9:55 "Original Kharacter DO NOT STEAL!"
I was there when the arcades first carried MK1 and 2 and those secrets were insane. I've personally been sad that such secrets simply don't exist nowadays, or have to be twisted and downplayed so that hackers don't think it's any big deal.
Even if they put them in , like dude said , they would be mocked for laziness , but they also wouldn't be legendary bc the internet exists and e everybody would know how to do it in the matter of days after release.
THAT VIDEO WAS AWESOME! and I enjoyed the comedy with Rex the hedgehog too. This brought back childhood memories of unlocking reptile, its why he's my favorite character. Anyways this was a fun watch.
This is some great content man
I remember reading in a MK2 Strategy Guide that Noob Saibot was made completely black so he would be nearly impossible to see in the shadows of Goro's Lair.
I have fought Donny rage before.. he’s so cheap.
Pretty sure he plays Dota2 now ;)
IKR all his ai does is use these huge ass force balls that can’t be blocked of dodged
It's just a joke
GhostHawk38 yeah he just spams every single button ever
You have no idea, I actually ended up being forced to cheat so I could stand a bit of a chance, only to find out that his 100% combo also makes you lose the round despite cheats even if your health isnt at 0.
After two long years, I'm finally coming for you Donny rage.
😂😂😂 you crack me up with your character and his requirements, so funny 😂😂
What stuns me is that we live in an era where datamining and hacking exist to get everything out of a game. Despite this, people still discover stuff today, recently I learned that there was a Rainbow Banana Coin in DK64 discovered nearly 20 years after its release.
Guys I just fought Donny rage he abuses scorpions spear in the fight unbelievable fight didn't beat him but I tried I had to pay my Tibetan 100$ man this games rigged I swear
Probably been posted a few times but the reference to finding Jade via kicks is "Chun who?" as that's her fighting style.
Fun fact: Netherrealm Studios made a joke about the Ermac in MK1 rumor, whereas Ermac’s classic red style was called “MK1”.
I'm not Donny cage I'm my original character blonny brage
wow
@Heavyroboking Jr. Shoe Bangs
🅱ohnny 🅱age
I've found someone even better, and her name is Jonya Slade.
@@SandwitchZebra I found boo fang
The vampire ghost version of liu kang
Who is just white
The steps are to go to the pit and get a double flawless do the stage fatality on a full moon friday while the premier of the twilight saga on amc is on make sure your fighting shang tsung you also must beat the dawnguard dlc for skyrim and kill karstaag with only a wooden sword while drunk on native russian vodka while a gopnik is dancing to hardbass while Putin is giving a speech right by you
Also, ermac was a rumor, but was in the first mortal kombat. He was glitched scorpion that appeared red, his name is short for error macro.
Christian Yuen I thought he was a hoax and not even a glitch (but was believed to be).
Christian Yuen
Awesome 👏
that's hecka sick..😁😁❤❤💚
Yeah, error macro code 5
No. False. There is no color palette for a red scorpion. This was entirely a hoax, except the error macro message could be present.
