According to Casey Kasem on American Top 40, "Barracuda" was the first heavy metal song with a female vocalist to make the Billboard Top 40. In the 70s that was considered metal, but when Metallica and Megadeath started getting popular they redefined heavy metal as more thrash metal like we common associate with it. The 1978 Year End issue of Hit Parader Magazine listed the "Top 5 Heavy Metal Bands" as Led Zeppelin, Heart, Van Halen, and Queen -- none of which we'd call metal today. Metallica revolutionized heavy metal.
1977 was an amazing time to be a kid! 🏄♂️
When they do get talked about they are always classified as "female rockers." They get set aside.
They are rockers. Just plain rockers.
Wow! Perfect comment! One of the greatest rock bands of all time that just happens to be female led. I'm excited to see them with Cheap Trick in September!
I think it's mentioned because females don't get as much recognition in this genre. I don't think it means they get set aside. They are females. It's important. To add to that, I think that is why there are categories for Grammy awards (Best Female Vocalist, etc). It's not like it's out of left field, or anything.
It's definitely heavy rock. In the 1970s heavy metal was in it's infancy and bands like Heart, Led Zeppelin, and Van Halen were considered heavy metal. Heart has always been connected to metal, but their albums are generally half hard rock and half acoustic folk (their early and more recent material), or hard rock and power ballads like most hair metal bands of the 80s. They lost some rock cred in the 80s because their record company only released power ballads as singles, and their best hard songs were album cuts.
She's the greatest female rock vocalist of all time!
I just saw Heart last Saturday in concert! They are still rocking it!!
Seeing them in August and I can't wait!
Sering them in September . ❤️💯🔥
She sang her ass off!!!! This song will never get old.
❤🔥LOVE HEART!!! -Crazy on You -Magic Man -Little Queen -Kick It Out -Dreamboat Annie -Bebe Le Strange -Even It Up -Straight On -Dog & Butterfly -These Dreams
I love it when young reactors say oh yeah I heard this song on Guitar Hero or Rock Band and thats where I learned to play it, it makes me chuckle 😂
I love it because it shows the power of both music and video games. Those games pulled in all kinds of people, and the music kept them playing. It had a lot larger cultural impact than I would have thought.
Not metal or hard rock, just good rock and roll.
Only thing wrong with this tune. Too short.
Love this song! Heart is a great rock band that started in the 70's. Ann Wilson has one of the most powerful female voices. And her sister Nancy can play a mean guitar. They have had so many great hits such as "Crazy on You", "Magic Man", "What About Love", "Never", "Dog & Butterfly", "These Dreams", "Alone" etc.
Anne Wilson has one of the most powerful voices in rock music, regardless of gender.
Dude they were on the radio all the time in the late 70s, and really beyond that for quite a while. My cousin went to the same high school they did but he was a couple years younger and he's a year older than me but they would sometimes come back and play in the music room or the gymnasium or something and just jam and everybody would rush to go pack in there and everybody was so proud of them.
I want to go back to the late 70s and 80s.
Ann Wilson wrote the lyrics. Lead guitarist Roger Fisher, drummer Michael Derosier and acoustic guitarist Nancy Wilson wrote the music. Alone is actually their biggest hit. It was confirmed the number 1 song in the world... 1987.
I was in 8th grade when this came out in 1977.
Always a Heart fan. Wanted so much to be able to sing like Ann Wilson. Paved the way for other fabulous female rockers. Joan Jett and Lita Ford are two that come to mind.
You should read up on WHY they wrote this song.
i remember hearing the rumor back in the day. in highschool everyone believed it too. it was an effort to boost interest and sales in the band.
Born out of Zeppelin's Achilles Last Stand, seeing this Live is something you won't forget.
Go watch the Hall of Fame induction for Heart. They play this song of course, the difference, they are in their 60s. IDC what anybody says, they knock it out of the park! Amazing performance live
Loved the sheer joy watching you mouth the lyrics. Rock on.
Chris Cornell inducted them into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame. He also played with them when they were the LoveMongers, the song was Wild Horses.
IMO they never had a song that I didn't like. Ann is an amazing vocalist.so poweful❤
Greatest Girl band ever❤❤❤
Another hard rocker, check out Pat Benetar and the song Hell is for Children!
The actual sound of this song is on CZcams. This is live but dubbed over with studio. The concert is there. Cool to see them though.
i like the hits, but mistral wind just puts me in a place. love that song
Mistral Wind is the best studio recording they ever made.
The only Heart track I love. A banger
If it looks like the audio is out of sync with this video it's because the studio track was overdubbed. The original live audio track from this live performance was damaged somehow making it sound warbly. It's out there somewhere but this is the one that gets the plays, and rightly so.
Highly Recommend: Alone/These Dream (live)
A special surprise for you.
Now the advertisers are using it for background music for a Hyundai SUV commercial.
Anytime anyone talks about the best women in rock, EVERYONE mentions Heart! You better believe it, lol! The consensus is Nancy is the female rock god. This song, to me, is one of the best rock songs ever, regardless of male/female.
👍👍Awesomely awesome. 🔥🔥🔥🔥 🖖❤
I love this song, too, but always wonder why the drums don’t get more praise.
The Greatest Women of Rock - Ann & Nancy Wilson. A long Rabbit Hole.
One wish…Do not leave Nancy out - The Greatest Female Guitarist.
You must react to their many hits performed from their Rock Hall Induction.
If u know the true story behind this song you'll have a greater appreciation for it and the band
Some music listeners may classify this song as Heavy Metal because of the song’s bass riff. It is VERY heavy on the sound of the bass. A bass line this heavy is not common in songs classified as Hard Rock.
💪🔥
We were all over here hoping you would have just straped ON the plastic rock band guitar and played along with them
I don't know who "They" are but Heart is Rock. Period
Ann was so damn fine back in the days
No, definitely not heavy metal. But just good straight-up rock! One of their greatest songs!
Yeah, at the time of it's release it would have been considered heavy metal.
I think the reason you don't understand why Mushroom Records put out that rumour is because we were born in an era when that kind of thing is just flat out disgusting. Back then, it was calculated to be titillating a lot of sick in the head white dude rock fans by sick in the head white dude record label suits because that kinda shit was just kinda in the air, lot more misogyny and objectification of women to that level where an incest rumour would spur sales.
It's honestly a credit to you and to our era that it comes across as just plain wrong and confusing without the context of what that era could be like. The sisters were right to be furious about it, and at least a damn good song came out of it as a silver lining, even if it was a nasty ass cloud over their career.
If I'd have been Fisher I would've fed the mouthy one at Mushroom Records a huge knuckle sammich over that.
I feel like this one was on GH2, and Crazy On You was on GH3. I can be wrong, but I really liked Crazy On You.
Barracuda was Guitar Hero 3, and Crazy On You was Guitar Hero 2
It is absolutely, positively, unequivocally most definitely NOT Heavy Metal. I think you have them right man. Rock with moments of Hard Rock.
Guitar Hero 3
Definitely not heavy metal! Screaming bands like Metallica are heavy metal. You rock dude, great reaction!
Never considered this heavy metal.
DONT BE A FOOL and LISTEN TO THE SONGS I PUT IN THIS COMMENT. 😮❤Heart is amazing.❤ They have so many deep cuts that nobody is doing reactions to. Check out, Cook with Fire(not about cooking food) Sing Child (not about children singing) Go on Cry, Devil Delight, Love Alive, Mistral Wind. These songs are Better than Barracuda. They are 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 People don't listen when we tell them...that's why you don't hear about them.
No they are not metal, their hard rock/rock..
Can’t handle the mic tapping you do. Blows my headphones up every time. Love your reactions but please stop the tapping on your mic!
They're probably just selling new hip-hop where you live.
LOVEBITES IS AN ALL FEMALE 5 PIECE METAL ROCK BAND THAT IS BETTER THAN 80% OF ALL BANDS OUT THERE THEY HAVE 2 LEAD GUITARISTS THAT MAKE MOST MEN QUIT... THERE HARMONISING DUAL LEAD BLOWS EVERYONE AWAY ... THE TALENT IS ON ANOTHER LEVEL.. This is not about them, it's about Heart's song Barracuda. Go promote your band somewhere else please, thank you.
