I love everything Ms. Betty Davis did.. she is an incredible actress , unfortunately Hollywood didn't give her the credit or the money she deserved.. may she R.I.P. 🙏
I don't think Bette Davis was that good.
But I think it's partly because they made her use that Transatlantic accent instead of just using a natural voice like when she first started out.
Her features are not very pretty but she was a decent actress.
I can still remember when she was 80 on the Johnny Carson show and she actually believed that she might make another woman jealous.😂😂😂😂
@@WVgirl1959 I am not speaking just about this movie .. I am talking about past movies like ' whatever happened to baby jane' or ' hush hush sweet Charlotte ' that era was Betty Davis time and she was phenomenal

Bette Davis and Joan Crawford.. The best of all times.
Agreed! I love watching all of their movies!
Such a privlege to watch a film with actors who could truly act.....lead by an actress of the quality of Betta Davis.... and a storyline that kept one engaged until the end! They certainly don't make films like this anymore...and so thank you Gem!!!
I so agree! I feel so blessed to have come across this film accidentally.
This is my first Bette Davis film I’m watching, as her portraying an older adult. She aged with such finesse and beauty! What a classy, excellent actress she was!
I LOVE ANYTHING Betty Davis was in! What a great actress. I miss this era of great acting. All the actors & actresses today are completely FORGETTABLE. I quit going to the movies 25 years ago, with the exception of Clint Eastwood productions and documentaries by indie productions like Angel Studios. Hollywood sucks today.
„Progress“ vs old true values…. It shows exactly why and when modern society went wrong. Marvellous film.
I agree. It is really excellent. What good teachers are, what the meaning of family is, how to mend fences. The first Bette Davis film I’ve ever watched!!! What an actress!
Never liked any role that Bette Davis played until this one .. She did a great job in this part. She always played the " bad " character and this film is such a refreshing change to see that she could pull off protraying the " good " character .. Well done and will watch again ..
Well, I thought this was going to be a movie that would be resemble watching cold molasses pouring. But not the case. It was like a roller coaster ride of emotions. Great acting and story. I would watch it again. Thank you for the sharing.
I find that the 80s movies were generally well made. Now, they are so predictable, the script is fast and films shortened. The technology might be better but the stories and quality seem to be lacking. 🤷♀️
Betty Davis didn't always play the bad girl. Now voyage is one of her greatest films ever. Where she is playing a good person. And Pocket full of miracles. She was such a good actress you hated her when she was a villian and loved her as a good person. Now that's a actress to be able to bring out these emotions in the audience.
I absolutely LOVE 'Now Voyager.' I even own it on DVD. Perhaps because the relationship between the mother and Charlotte Vale reminds me so much of me and my own mother.
Hands down best actress ever ! May she be now & forever in eternal rest .
Joan Crawford might disagree with you! 😂
Love bet Davi’s she should have gone far up she was not given the credit she deserved best actress no 1 in my eyes u will never see another bet dais r.i.p. 🌹
I just love Bette Davis, I have seen this movie before and its a hit and I love (Bette Davis) she is 1 of my favorite Classic Hollywood Movie Stars. If you are reading my comment and you never seen this movie, I believe you will love this story.❤️💯🎥🦋💜
Darling, this not Betty White. This is Bette (with an E) Davis. Her real name was Ruth Elizabeth so she was nicknamed Bette.

Family Reunion is a 1981 American made-for-television drama film directed by Fielder Cook. The teleplay by Allan Sloane was based on the Ladies Home Journal article How America Lives by Joe Sparton. It was produced by Columbia Pictures Television for NBC, which aired it in two parts on October 11 and 12, 1981.
I know. I watched it when it first aired in 1981.

Only Bette Davis can make mundane movie to heartwarming story. RIP queen.
Love the actor playing the mailman. He is such a character. Lol.
The film gives the impression that "Winfield" is somewhere in New England. The character of the mailman is typical of a Massachusetts or Maine resident. The movie was filmed (on) near Long Island I believe.
@@Lightsngear You're right. It was indeed filmed on Long Island. Oyster Bay to be exact. Where Teddy Roosevelt's house is located.

Oh. A film of 1981... And the sweet young man is her real grandson!
That was really, really, really good!!!! I love Betty Davis!! She goes back quite a ways, but she was a great actress, and was in a great many good films… My 31 year old tonight didn’t know who Betty Davis was, even me bringing up that song with the line “she’s got those Bette Davis eyes”!! He didn’t remember that song either!!! Well, that song came out I found out just now on Google in 1981 by Kim Carnes. And my son wasn’t even born until 1992!!! Anyway, and thank you to any and all that acted in that film and help make the film and bring it to us today!!! It brought a lot up for me about my family, my mother’s side, and my father’s side in Pennsylvania, from years past, and what has happened to all of us, etc.!! ❤. Love, Sister(for we are all brothers and sisters) Gay Michaelis

...guessing your son is not a fan of adult contemporary hits! I didn't realize the song came out the same year!

Ditto!
This is a 3 hour movie. Much of the acting is wooden; it's often as cloying as the worst of the Hallmark tear-jerkers; but I watched it till the end - just for Bette Davis. Of course this is why they put her in it.

I think I'm terrified of her watching only through my phone and I'm sure those actors too, maybe the film crew as well . The commanding and bossy tone of voice is very intimidating and overwhelming 😅😊😂

Love her voice.... ❤❤❤❤❤
I started watching this story wistfully but soon noticed that that fine, staunch, redoubtable and newly retired teacher is surrounded by unscrupulous cheats, up and down the line.
I'm afraid that it smacks too much of current events, that I routinely hear about every day.
Therefore, with no need to overegg the pudding, so to speak, I'm off.

Brilliant xx
It's sad that very few relatives hugged her upon seeing her.
Well, that's because of all the 'baggage' in her family. Everyone (except perhaps Grover) had some kind of axe to grind. Since Elizabeth was a senior member of the family (and technically became it's matriarch after her older brother George died) they all blamed her in some way.
Superb acting 👏

I’ve watched this movie but don’t remember it was that long as indicated 3 hours!! Was it so? I loved it. It was pretty nice and reflected a real slice of life.
It wasn't originally shown on TV in one three hour viewing, it was originally shown in one hour installments over the course of three nights so that is why you probably do not remember it to be as long as it really is!
@@vintageappliguy it was shown over a TWO night period. Both airings in a TWO hour time slot!
As lightsngear said, it was shown over TWO nights on TV in a 2 hour time slot. I know because I watched it back in 1981. All the commercials took up a half hour each night which is what drew it out to 2 hours both nights it was shown.

Why does it say this in an English movie? It isn't.
Yes. I think they mean
IN English ....😊
rather than BY the
English 😊.
It's surprising how
understandable it is !
Even since 1981,
American English has
changed somewhat :
But that's what
languages do :
they gradually change
over time, with usage.
Our current Standard
English is SO different
from , say , Chaucer's time.
I'm proud and grateful
that English has
become the second
language of choice
all over the world : it's
been adopted as the
working language in
Aviation, I'm told...!
Saves us lazy
mob a lot of work !
( But we do try ....
hear a Cornish person
say " Good Day " in
German :
Gooten TARG !")

Model T came after A Model Ford but A model were only made in 1928 1929 before the T Model. Whomever knows, was the T Truck -bus made in 1926?
I'm not sure exactly what you're trying to say after reading your comment.
However, I can tell you that the Ford Model T was made from 1908 to 1927. It was replaced by the Ford Model A which was made from 1928 (introduced in December 1927) to 1931. Although there was a prior Model A made in 1903 and 1904.
This particular vehicle is a 1926 Model T Depot Hack. It was made from 1919 to 1927. It's sometimes known as a 'Model TT' because the 'TT' was the truck chassis and this was in fact built on the truck chassis even though it's technically not a truck.
This film must be 1969.- 1971 guessing.?
1981 actually.
why would you assume that?
Family Reunion 1981
You're only 10-12 years off!
I remember watching this when it first aired in 1981 when I was in high school.
I loved it because, coming from a small town, my classrooms looked the same in grammar school and Miss Winfield reminded me a lot of my 6th grade teacher.
It is truly fascinating to watch one of our greatest actresses play a part wheref she is one of the worst actresses I’ve ever watched in my life. I’m not really quite sure what they were trying to do with this movie.
Agreed. I just finished Part 1 and can't decide if I want to waste my time watching Part 2. Lol.
I beg to differ with the both of you! I watched this movie when it was first shown on TV in 1981 and I liked it a LOT! Perhaps it's because I come from a really old family like the Winfields and that I was also raised in a small town. Also maybe because Elizabeth's classroom looked just like the classrooms in my old grammar school and that she reminded me a lot of my 6th grade teacher. But i DID in fact like it!

Was it Jezebel or All About Eve? No. But I thought it was a pretty good movie!
And yes; Richard was in fact played by her real life grandson J. Ashley Hyman.

@@retroguy9494 I do too. I was at a motel in Massachusetts with my parents the night it was airing.
@@Lightsngear I was laying on the couch in our rec/family room. I was a junior in high school.
YOWZA, THAT'S QUITE THE DIATRIBE😱😱😱
Richard was played by Bette Davis grandson, J. Ashley Hyman. Bette wanted him for the role because the money he made would to into a college trust.
There were conflicting stores about what went down during filming. B.D Hyman wrote in her book that Bette terrorized and traumatized Ashley, while cast and crew who worked on Family Reunion said Bette mentored and always looked out for him.
Tbh it was a mistake casting him. I get wanting your grandchild to earn money, but the story revolves around Richard, and the poor kid couldn't act if his life depended on it.
Although neither could his mother. Watch her scenes in Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? to see what I mean.
Odd how two generations didn't inherent any of Bette's immense talent. 🫥
Ashley was fine in his role. Now his mother in Whatever happened to Baby Jane is another story. This was a nice heartwarming story. Bette Davis didn't chain smoke, clip her words or give a single death glare throughout the whole picture. She played her part very convincingly without over exagerated
schmaltz. This was a true feather in her cap.
