- The Passat R36 is a car I have wanted to jump into for a long time, and in this video I do exactly that. This car has just under 300BHP making it one of the most powerful cars I've driven on this channel, but the reviews call it boring and dull, but is it really?

Ive got one! The saloon. Ive never seen another on the road. Its been one of my fav cars. It has its limits though, as i discovered one day trying to keep up with a mitsubishi evo. Silly, i know but middle of the highlands and very quiet. I was just about staying with him, till we came to a bend. He didnt appear to slow down at all and i very nearly kept going, into the wildnerness...
So, its a fairly capable , reasonably quick road car. Great engine, big boot. Not too bad on fuel. Sounds great with a stainless exhausr. Standard one a bit quiet.
What i like is its understated. Nobody knows what it is, which suits me. Also good at just pottering about in top, with loads of torque. Hard to find. I paid too much for a low mileage one but i dont regret it for a minute.
Noice*. I got an R36 wagon with a catback, and i absolutely love it. Even with a lot of noise, it’s still very comfortable.

Nice video! Technically speaking it's a VR6 motor, not an actual V6, since it has one cylinder head and the cylinders are at a narrow angle (just don't remember if it's 10,5 or 15 degrees). When VW launched the B6 Passat, even though there was no R36 yet, there was already a 250HP 3.2 variant which was using the same brakes and DSG plus it also was all wheel drive. I happen to own one of those and they offer 80% of the fun at half the price of an R36 (the remaining 20% being the extra 49HP and the looks/interior). I absolutely love this car and can recommend it to everyone who is looking for a special station wagon. Oh, and it's more reliable than the 2-litre TFSI models (mine's got 300k km on the clock and doesn't need anything aoart from proper service and fuel 😁).

I have owned a 2009 R36 since 2012. Its a really nice car to drive. The sound of the engine just purrs along nicely. Here in OZ, we didn't get the active suspension kit. When I select "S" mode, also known as 'Smoke' mode, the engine really comes alive and puts the biggest smile on my face. It is a fun car to drive. You are right, the styling and design of the car is so nice, I fine myself admiring the shapes all the time. I have the saloon with GPS and sunroof, but should have opted for the estate. I hope you managed to get yourself one...
Hahaha pmsl as i often refer the s (sport) mode as the SMOKE mode.
I got one yesterday, a R36 Blue Sedan from 2008 with only 166.500 kilometers (not miles) on the clock and looking like it came from the showroom. For a price I could NOT ignore.
I am much more a (model)train lover rather than a car lover and I only need a car to go from A to B in a reliable and comfortable manner.
The exhaust roar isn't really my cup of tea and I don't know why it makes that noise even with the modest driving style I have. But OK, The car looks very nice in and out and has quite a bit of power which is also nice but I will never go much faster than 110 kilometers an hour on the Highway. I find durability much more important than power and that's why I appreciate the 3.6 liter engine. If I drive it in a modest way it should last long and be reliable (what I hope). I had no idea these existed! I hate the fact that the US gets screwed when it comes to cool VAG cars.
US got an incognito R36 without the styling package and interior, but technically it's almost the same

If you like that try the Passat W8. W8 was the basis for a lot of much more expensive motors Inc the Veyron

Police in Northern Ireland have used both passat w8s and r36 but Traffic branch only mostly using Skoda superbs and vauxhall insignias now

Ooo this is different. I've not really seen much about the R36 but i have been interested as to what its like to drive and how it feels. It's certainly different from all the typical golfs and other hatchbacks you see. It seems more 'classy' to have but hides a powerful beast which sounds awesome! Keep up the awesome content!

My one I love. Swift and competent. Thirsty when ...always😊 not as nimble and sporty as Audi s things. As an all round beast they are lovely

I got into the Passat game roughly 2 years and I love my wagon even tho it’s the 2.0fsi 😭 love the R36 but I can’t help but think if got my hands on one I would be modifying it to be manual, you just can’t beat the feel of driving manual, how is the DSG in the R36 in particular, was it smooth, does it change when it’s supposed too or are you constantly waiting for it too change up or waiting for it to realise you’ve lifted your foot of the throttle?
The dsg box was really smooth, felt nice to drive but I know that a manual will be even better 👌
U should check the passat b5.5 with a W8 engine AWD. Is rare and pretty too
I've always loved these especially in blue but running cost are crazy

BWTV no worries, I love how down to earth your channel is - I had a stage 1 Mk4 GTI for 7 years before someone went into the side of it. I’ve now got a Mk5 GTI Pirelli Edition and have always fancied an R32 or R36. Congrats on the corrado too, can’t wait to see what you do with it

I have the Skoda superb with the same engine/gearbox/haldex system, it can certainly surprise people.
Isn't the Skoda 3.6 only 191kw, not 220kw like the R36?
They are 300 horsepower at the engine , not the wheels

@@BWTV Yeah recently saw one that's 700hp+ and seemed like there was no drop in stability, that was on a very low boost too so i could get to 1000hp with the right build.

Tiptronic is a big fail compared to a dsg i would sell that thing asap

Does it come with a guide on how to convince your missus why you _need_ an R36? Like proper reasons... Because I can only think of things like "for when you're really late for the dog walk" or "so the nippers arrive at school raging with adrenaline"
Just tell her you think it's a diesel, and the DSG gearbox is so it's easier on the feet in traffic 😂

Don't waste your money on bags man get bilstein coilovers and the exhaust system. ( You can tell I'm a middle-aged bastard from that comment!) Thing is though mate. I already have bags for it. I had a diesel passat on bags and they fit straight up. Just a matter of swapping it over. 👍🏻 If I didn't have them I'd go coils for sure!

I own one that's close but it's not called a R36 and it has the Tiptronic transmission instead of the DSG... Same engine,4Motion,VW CC sport seats and big brakes.....it sounds just like this one.
