  • Episode 271of Mike Finnegan's Garage is all about modifying my 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air, which is called Blasphemi. This Hemi-powered beast is fast and unreliable and I fully intend on making it even faster and hopefully a bit more reliable. lol
With that in mind I decided to upgrade my ignition system to MSD Smart Coils. You can get more information about those right here: www.holley.com/brands/msd/pro...
I also changed from a wet-sump oiling system to a dry sump system using parts from Moroso and you can get more info about that here:
    www.moroso.com/moroso-shop-br...
Thanks for watching this video. I really appreciate it. Please help support the channel by scoring some of my apparel at www.fsmgarage.com

Coil on plug means the coils are directly on the plug. Like the newer hemi motor has. What you have is coil near plug. Like an LS.

One thing I learned from drilling for heim joints is to use a drill press. You do not want to waller out the hole’s. That 5/8’s bolt needs to fit as tight as possible in the hole else you may get wobble in your steering. And if the angle is off, the joint will not mount flush.

My dry sump tank holds 3 gallons. The tank and breather probably another 8 lbs. There is a lot of stuff inside that oil pan so there is a few extra pounds there. The idea is to take as much weight off as you can and put it where you need it. So your not saving weight you just have the advantage of moving it around. His battery on the opposite side is a good idea for weight.@@jasonbirch1182

Awesome video Mike. Sunday morning coffee, brownies and Finnegan's.......priceless. You did a great job explaining the glory of the dry sump. Your engine will make more power and last longer so how many $ is that worth? I'm building a 53 Chevy 1/2 ton drag and drive. Inline 6 292 (308) with a Ryan Falconer V-12 head(cross flow 340I/220E), billet crank, Billet solid roller cam and steel billet rods all by Crower. 5 stage dry sump. Electromotive direct fire EMS. Weiand 6-71 with 2 Quick Fuel 650 DP and 16 jet nitrous fogger plate. It should be well north of 1000 HP. 5 speed H pattern with a custom built Frankland Quick Change. A carbon fibre drive shaft will help mitigate the shock on the drive train. I also have EPAS Performance electric P/S and an electric A/C compressor with remote condenser with spal fan from down under. Sorry so long. Hope to see you there. Thank you for your time.

I used to work at Dan Olsen racing products and I am sure that they have a far superior oil pan than the Morroso unit. May cost more but they have much better oil scavenging and the built in windage tray pulls more oil off the crankshaft. AN additional advantage of a dry sump is the oil spends more time in the sump where it can cool therefore lowering the engine temp...making more HP.

Most important feature of having drysump oiling system is at having constant oilsupply in any racing conditions, so NO oilsurge!!
And byside a lower point of placing engine hence gravity point.
For what wetsump can do better at its performance, is have windagetray and baffles in the oilpan. You can use a scavenging pump for the
cranckcase pressure buildup . On the top cylinderheads good breather to exhaust collector connection sucks out the same even to much,
so resctrictor may needed because It may even suck the valvecover gasket in! It had happend with Friend of mine, He has a Chevy 377 cid 700 HP
N/A stroker at 8500 rpm in an Opel Rekord with this setup .
I mentioned that , because some may not have the cash on a 1500 Euro drysump system. At least in Europe for a decent one.
Then as many opose it wouldnt help: Polishing counterweights of cranck do have less as of oildrag on it.
That is correct what you said, about unbalance by oil sticking or slinging around by or having on cranckshaft.
Anyway, there are a lot of dragracers with good results with a trick wetsump.
