    I've wanted one of these for well over a decade. I live in Bozeman and there was a used one in there a few years ago for $1700. I should've pulled the trigger on that one. It was just a weird time in my life. Awesome video, awesome store and I/m getting me on e these this year. This is my main focus for a guitar this year. Thanks for the video.

    Great guitar and great review. Only thing is, the quality of the sound coming across the internet doesn't do it justice. I have an M-36 I bought in 2012. I must say, it sounds better in person. The richness of tone just isn't coming across.
    Great playing and a great review, Corey. Always a joy to hear you play.

    Corey, so glad to hear you demo that guitar with some finger and flat picking in addition to strumming. Also good to hear a guitar played both hard as well as softly. Just like the J-40 that is mentioned in passing by Paul as Martin's Jumbo, the M-36 can take anything you can throw at it and stay clean, clear and crisp.

    I've got a 1978 D28 I inherited from my Dad years ago and it sounds sweet. Its a very loud guitar for sure, but my M36 has plenty of volume as well just not quite as much, but it sounds a little more (mid forward) to me and it's definitely easier on the fingers! I think the M36 has a slight larger width at the nut, or it feels that way to me. I love the D28 but if I had to choose just one it would be the M36. There's nothing like a Martin!

    I got one back in 2010 but had to go custom to get the 1 3/4" nut! It was my first bona fide Martin, too. I got a sunburst and italian alpine spruce top while I was at it, too, and bound the headstock for some reason. Still my only bona fide Martin (although I have a few Gibsons). If I could only have one guitar, it might be this one. I would have just gotten this standard version though if I were doing it now!

    so...it's about the same price point as the d-35, correct? is this one more for recording, and the d-35 more for on-stage bluegrass? Is that the differentiator?

    • @charliejohnson5375
      @charliejohnson5375 Před 5 lety +3

      I have an M-36. I have 3 friends with a D-18, a D-28, and a D-41. My opinion is that the Dreds are louder, but not by much, and the M-36 sounds sweeter. Has a better, more balanced tone.
      Again, just my opinion.
      I have seen a couple on stage, and they can hold their own. Plenty of projection and volume. They can also be played soft and easy and still project and sustain very well.

      I have a 0000-18 Custom for Sale which is essentially an M 18, they just call it a 0000-18. I've only had it a year--fantastic guitar, but I ordered a 000-18 from Pre-War Guitar Co so can't justify both. If interested, I can refer you to a video from Maury's music that shows my actual guitar (I purchased the one being played in the video).

      I have an M-36 and an Epi EJ-200. Either one will fit in either case, just can't close the Martin case with the Epi in it. It's too thick.
      I love the big, rich sound of the M-36 and it is much easier to play sitting on the sofa because it is so much narrower. It feels smaller than it is. The J-200 cranes the right arm too much and I have to use a gig stool, or put a pillow under my butt if I want to sit and play (which is 99% of the time).
      All I can say is that if you can live with the price, you will love it. Bought mine in 2012 and it will be a hand-me-down to my daughter.
      Don't know about the GC.

    Had one... sold it to buy two other guitars.
    Some things you regret selling off... some things not so.
    The guitar sounded awesome, but was so expensive that I couldn't keep it in the house with my children around and couldn't take it on the road to gig.
    This because of fear of damage and theft...

    Is it wise to spent all this money to a can-sounding Martin when you can easily buy a Bourgeois?

      martin pisses all over any Bourgeois

    • @ChrisFretTiger
      @ChrisFretTiger Před 3 lety +1

      @@sooparticular I'm sure your favourite artist thinks so. I think you have been brainwashed. But, if sound is subjective, consider this. Bourgeois guitars are made by luthiers, while Martins are made by employees, who could be described as mere assemblers. I'm sure you wouldn't like to pay the big buck, for a Martin, if you new that the person that put your guitar together, knows less about guitars than you do!
      Rule No1 when you're out looking for a guitar:
      Give the worst luthier the best piece of wood and he will build trash.
      Give an excellent luthier, the worst piece of wood and he will build a masterpiece.
