    Awesome tutorial, MS support page says to use OSU 2/3 file on original Xbox one but these gave error when I tried to install them. I thought that I made some mistakes somewhere but it turns out that you need OSU 1 and all is good. Good thing I found this tutorial and resolved my problem.

    Little tip: If you’re in the Insider Program, your Xbox WILL NOT be able to be restored with OSU. You’ll have to put the original drive back in and remove it from Insider. That’s what caught me up, and I just want to put it out there if anyone else is having trouble.

    • @mariodiy4517

      Where people get preview builds of the OS.
      It's also noted that if your drive fails with a preview build, you have to wait for the latest public release of the OS, for the OSU file to install the OS on a new drive. You cannot downgrade to an older OS. So take note what OS build you have in case your drive fails.

    This is a brilliant and thorough guide. I’ve just upgraded my working Xbox One X from its original 1TB hard drive to a 2TB Samsung SSD, and I’m installing my games again now. No issues at all, and the speed seems great so far -I had the video running at 1.5X while I installed, and mine was installing at about the same pace :D

    Love the video. Very in depth and explains errors and things that other videos do not touch on. Unfortunately, none of this worked for me. I think my XBOX One S is done! Error after error never getting past about 7%. I have tried different usb sticks and varying sized drives of over 500GB and I get nothing each time. I am not quite sure but maybe I was part of the Insider update ring and that has got me stumped for now. Anyway, the video was great and it gave me some juice to keep trying for a bit longer until I felt I had done everything.
    Thanks for the hard work on the video Andy.

    Ty, it helped me a lot. This video was more helpfull than Xbox support and forum. Every offline system upgrade try was failed in stage 3. I had power cycle it 1 or 2 times to complete update. After that my console was slow and freezed a lot in menu/settings. When I copyed that animation file to system folder the OSU went perfectly. It went trough all the stages and my console was better than before! I know it just seems faster but finally can download a game without freezing..If u read this comment, just follow the steps 1 by 1. The answer for your problem is in the video.

    Thank you so very much. I had my xbox apart during this process. Just to make sure things went smoothly and to make sure I didn't need to do anything else. Not ideal I know. But it is going through. I did have an E100 error but that was 100% on me because I didn't have the blu-ray player installed in the system. Quick fix and it got past the part I was getting stuck at.
    Everything worked properly. I had a little snag when I was trying to get the boot animation. I had to add a letter to the partition to access the files. I was able to put the files in and now have the boot animation.
    After all of that my xbox is running just fine and is put back together with a new 1TB SSD.
    I have to reinstall all of my games, which isn't an issue since I mainly play on PC, but there are a few games not on PC that are on Xbox (MLB The Show) I noticed an immediate improvement of download speed.
    I spent hours trying to clone my drive and it wasn't working, I was getting frustrated. I'm glad there was another way to get it done.
    I know I could've spent money on a new series X. But a 1TB SSD is a lot cheaper.

    Same thing happened to me it was because of the usb flash drive format, make sure you format it to NTFS but more important in the part in the Allocation Unit Size select the first one in the list is named “Default”. I worked for me. Good luck!!

  • @YamSandw1ch
    @YamSandw1ch Před 2 lety +2

    So basically what you said at 18:50 is allowing the Xbox to sleep on it’s own with power-save mode corrupts the hdd faster? Or is that with instant start up? Is it better to shut it down through the controller or the settings..? And does leaving the Xbox on for hours on the home screen eventually corrupt it too? (My brother always did that to the point where the Xbox stopped turning on.). Ordered a 1tb Seagate HDD from Amazon and it comes tomorrow, I already have my USB set up with the OSU1 and bootup animation, and my Xbox is already taken apart and ready to go for tomorrow lol. I’ll update here if it works!
    Update:
    It worked!! Thank you! Even though I put the boot-up animation in the $SystemUpdate file, I have no boot-up animation lol, but I’ll wait and see if it fixes itself. Will update if it does.
    Update: After about 3 days of turning my Xbox on without the bootup animation, it fixed itself! Now my happiness is complete 🥲

It works, I get into setting up the Xbox one x, I sign in, I do all my settings, time, language, it updates the store etc. After all that, on the very next restart, it goes back to E error 102,105 or 106. Is it a sign of a faulty hdd? It's barely a year old 1tb sata. Please advise at your earliest convenience.

    I have done the SSD upgrade to my XBOX ONE S awhile ago. I used the OSU1 that mentioned in Xbox Support website. And I didn't do any formatting to the SSD. I just wrap it with the old hard drive, then do the Offline System Update. The Xbox will guide you all the process (to a fresh factory-reset console). For the game-save, as long as you install the game thereafter (Or find it back in the store app), the game-save will be back there...... those Xbox Backup doesn't help! My 2 cents.

  • @xiMoshyx

    If anyones got a boot loop and your hard drives healthy. In my experience, it's the sata connection cables attached for the hard drive. Can't remember the error codes specifically. But, ive repaired 3 consoles this year with that very issue. Xbox 360 sata cables will fit, Xbox one, one s, and one X are crosscompatiable using them cables.

    • @xiMoshyx

    Im beginning to wonder if the thing where the console creates the partitions is something that microsoft added to the firmware as a result of the next gen consoles using non standard SSDs (which is modular, fortunatly, unlike the PS5 where it is soldered to the board), especially if the now previous gen and the next gen use pretty much the same firmware

    Two questions -
    1. When we do the three beep technique after getting a new hard drive, will we hear the Xbox chime even if we turned that off on the old drive?
    2. Why can we not just simply press the power button to turn the Xbox on?

  • @hrshustle
    @hrshustle Před 3 měsíci

    Is this tutorial still relevant? And also did you intentionally kept the LAN cable disconnected during the installation? It has to be pure offline? What if i reset the console before the offline update and before putting the new drive? The OSU1 file will be newer than the factory defaults if i am thinking right. Wouldnt that decrease the chance of the update getting corrupt?

    Now that Microsoft have made the process easier, I’m kind of tempted to swap the 1TB HDD in my Xbox One X for a 2TB SSD (although once i finally get an Xbox Series X, my Xbox One X won’t see as much use)

      I am in the process of doing the ssd swap. I have replaced the drive and put console back together and now I just keep getting error codes. And it will not accept the osu1.

    Computer tech here. Was working on a system that came into shop, and tried every software fix, and pulled drive out like a computer and determined it was failing. Once a new drive was installed, system allowed itself to be updated and used.

    What hardware issue would cause it not to update?
    Tried update 1, 2 and 3 plus 3 different hard drives. All clean.
    Get either E101 or E106 .

    Hi Paul great video. Run into problems trying this now as the system update file is to big for the partition. I installed into file A onto system update (x:) this partition is 11.9gb the file placed into file A is 6.61 GB so when I copy this to file B it is to big. I did try your new video and had no luck so thought I would try a diffrent way and came across your older video, bit stuck now but I will try the newer option again and see what happens but I can't get it to do 3 beeps, I'm holding down sync and eject button tap the power while holding down that two buttons, it just shuts off after 5 seconds

    I can highly suggest this guide to others. The official instructions provided by Microsoft for Offline updates are not entirely accurate. I had to go through multiple user guides to determine that I only required OSU1 update, not OSU 2 or 3 first, despite the official instructions stating otherwise.

    No second beep, no repair screen, no third beep. Multiple USB drives, multi hard disks, all the same.

      Are your thumb drives NTFS formatted? By default they resort to FAT32 or exFAT, neither of which will work and will cause the symptoms you're finding.

    The internal HDD in Xbox One (Launch Edition) failed last week, and I have tried to make the same switch with the same drives you show in the video (coincidence), I have a 2TB Barracuda that I wiped and formatted (supposedly) to an Xbox state, that is, one with all the partitions, but I tried two different USB drives with all three versions of the OSU (so then, six distinct attempts), all of them start "preparing update" and do maybe 4 or 5% until stopping, giving me the message "there was a problem". But do I understand your video correctly, there is no need to attempt to format it to an Xbox state, the Xbox will do that automatically if you install it in an uninitialized state?

    Hello Paul, I'm just wondering what to do because my HDD SATA I is in the NTFS Format with nothing inside of it (Brand New), and everytime I go to my Xbox One to hold onto the Pair and Eject Buttons, I press the power button and only 2 Power-up sounds come up, the 3rd one doesn't even sound on and then I get 3 power-down sounds and it closes...

    I've got a very interesting scenario with my Xbox that I've yet to find a solution online so I hope your insight can help me to resolve my situation.
    I have an original Xbox one that hasn't been used before. When I turned it on it said update failed but didn't give me an error code. Tried to install OSU1, however no matter how many times I've tried to go into troubleshooting mode it simple doesn't allow it, when I do it correctly it doesn't give three beeps it simply stays on a black screen until I let it go of the buttons and then it just does a normal boot. I then tried to reformat the hard drive on the Xbox but I still run into the same problem. I think I might know a solution, is it possible to format the hard drive in a certain way that it'll force it to go into troubleshooting mode on startup without doing the button sequence? If so then please let me know.
    Thanks.

      Hi, This has all the hallmarks of a defective disk to me. I'd replace it with a new one and retry the OSU1 install from there.

      @@adelacosta6886 use partition manager like AOMEI PARTITION ASSISTANT and right click on SYSTEM UPDATE merge you unallocated space on the SYSTEM UPDATE FILE and if you need more space RIGHT CLICK ON USER AND SPLIT IT THEN ADD IT TO YOUR SYSTEM UPDATE

    Hi, your videos have really helped so far! Is it important tho to extract the Microsoft files to the usb drive from archives? I just directly unzipped the files from the download folder to the usb drive. When I plugged in the drive to the Xbox and turned it on using the method you demonstrated I just got a black screen with text in multiple languages saying System error and the code E200 000000EF and E101. Why does this happen… anyone with the same problem ?

    Hey Andy.. I did everything and I see E102 error . Any idea?I also wanna double confirm with you that I did not use those olden methods of partitions.. Just this video thats it !
    By the way the original 500gb hdd is dead so I am replacing it with new hdd 500gb... have done this many times.. but this console is just making me crazy.... so confused... should I go back to old method? I don't have any idea on insider program... it's my clients xbox

    • @GamezDragon
      @GamezDragon Před 2 lety +3

      The old method is not gonna work because, the new osu1 is 6.4gb and partition size of system update x is just 12gb.. so when you copy files to folders A and B you would run out of space.....
