  • Hi, so today I will be sharing with yall on how to create a countdown timer in Final Cut Pro X (FCPX). You can use it for long countdowns, and can use for countdowns for 10 seconds too!
    It is very simple:
    1. Go to "generators"
    2. Find "timecode"
    3. Drag in to timeline, double-click the time on the bottom-middle of your video inspector, type whatever time you want. use "." to change the time.
    4. IF your clip is shorter than, say 10 seconds, drag the clip frame by frame.
    5. Press 'option + G' to create a "compound clip".
    6. Press 'cmd + R' to make time adjust bar appear, and choose "custom - Reverse"
    7. Adjust the font, colour, and all the other details.
    8. Delete 'Project' for label
    9. CROP the time if you want it to be only showing minutes and/or seconds!
    10. DONE!!

How do I create a custom start time? For example, I want to start at 2:30 and count down to zero.

That is awesome. I have been looking for a simple way to make a timer for my workout videos on CZcams and I've never seen any tutorial as simple as yours. Thank you. Do you know how I can put my timer in a shape, like in a circle?

How about other color? It seems other colors doesn't work ... with the blend mode

yes, this is just a small shortcut. For better results and more customizations, you have to use motion templates created by others.

@@EditTutLC Ah ha that's the thing... I wonder why this is so hard.
It is a just color timer without background ... wow

@@davidkim2377 actually there could be other ways (creating a layer and use alpha channel etc), but I don’t think there should be a need to be so complicated for such a small thing…

@@davidkim2377 haha true, but there are some free ones lying around thou. If you want, I can create some for you for free. Just that I’m kinda busy these few days, but surely I will make one video and give free templates in the near future. Stay tuned if you want some free stuff too!
