Just found this ans I have been djing for a long time. I will never forget I was djing at a bar and this girl asked me if I was new (new to djing) I said no why do you ask? (Not sure to get offended or what). She smiled and said no your very nice and not used to djs that are nice and actually listen and she told me I was doing a good job. đŸ˜đŸ‘đŸŒ

Nice one you're making a lot of sense. I covered a Pub once in south London for the resident DJ who told me it was dead by 10:30, One of the artists he mentioned to me that he played was Lady Ga Ga, I did my home work and went there a few days before. He got it SO WORNG! on my night I opened with Gill Scott Heron The Bottle my second song was Funky Nassau Begging of the end. three guy's sitting in the pub bought me a drink and People were still dancing at 1am and the Bar man said it was the best night they had in ages. Thanks for the Video

Those two songs by Redbone and Looking Glass were in Guardians of the Galaxy. You could have probably dropped a few more songs from that soundtrack and kept the young people’s interest as well as the older crowd. Works great with both groups.

Great suggestions. I really wish more DJ’s did these things. It’s really all about consideration. You are taking both the interests of your listeners, and the interests of the venue into consideration. That’s what DJing is all about, or at least should be.

Another touch tunes tip. It will show you the upcoming songs. Sometimes if you start at 10 and that song that someone paid for didn't get played, they will likely come up and let you know, so it's often a good idea to either let the jukebox play the upcoming songs and you start a few minutes late or, just play the song for them. If you play it, Sometimes they notice the change in direction of sound (I never understand how people don't notice where the sound is coming from) they might mention to the manager/bartender/owner how cool it was for you to do that for them.

I started out beat matching with an old toy record player that had a variable resistor I connected to the motor's power line to control the speed. I would listen to the radio on a Saturday night and match the tempo of every song played with the one record I owned at the time. It was 1985. I was 14. Cut to the 90s and I find out they make record players that do the same thing so I'm using old Technics with a knob for the pitch and a bunch of crates filled with 45s and LPs. Life got much easier with Virtual DJ then even better when I moved to Serato. The one thing I learned in all the years playing music is that *what* you play is less important than what you *don't* play. People will only remember why they stopped dancing. Knowing the difference is what keeps DJs alive. I enjoy your videos, bro. Great stuff!!

You never heard the song Brandy by Looking Glass? Number one in 1972! Are you freakin' kiddin' me??? Damn Young punk... lol
Interesting side note... My friend Steve Homner wrote that song when he was 20 years old. He made the mistake of selling it to Elliot Lurie. Lurie was the leader of the band "Looking Glass." Steve got $1600.00 for that song. Because he sold it, he got NO royalties & didn't even get the song writing credit. Steve passed away on Aug. 16, 2017 of Parkinson's disease.

After 40+ years in sports television and dealing with Fire Marshals, one of the first things I learned was that cable troughs and a $20 roll of Gaff Tape are your best friend (and this also applies to both DJ's or KJ's). If there's any chance someone could trip on a cable it gets taped down. This helps protect both you and the venue from law suits as it shows that someone had to make an effort to trip on a cable that was properly secured.

Yes bro that’s what I been saying !! Everytime I would start djing at the bar as soon as I walk in here comes the young ones asking me to play some new stuff not this old school crap and I’m looking around and the older crowd is having a good time like why should I change all that up for so I usually continue to what they been doing that way they stay longer and like you said the bar makes money and of course like you said they don’t end up staying the whole night but still I don’t want to throw them out as soon as I get on
