    John DeLorean made some money off those DMC snowcats. Made them in Ogden Utah, they were not cheap $250k. 1970 $. Sold it to finance his car. Great riding cats, had a suspension system, rode better then the Bombadier we had. Unfortunately the DMC was not as reliable as the Bombadier.

    Был у меня СХМ-8 Ямал (он в ютюбе - "вездеход Ямал на снежных просторах и оврагах"). Зимой во время покатушек порвал гусеницу не доезжая до своей базы пару километров. Снега в тот год было много. Вечерело. Тащить было нечем, тк на базе и в ближайшей деревне гусеничного трактора не было. Поэтому возможен был только ремонт на месте. Стяжкой стянул место разрыва гусеницы (стяжки от фуры. 2 шт х 10 т. всегда возил с собой). С собой так же был трос-синтетика диаметром примерно 12 мм., метров 50. Этим тросом и сшил гусеницы (как ткань сшивают стежками ниткой). Продевал, стягивал и сшивал с большим запасом по длине гусеницы. На "додуматься и сшить" ушло минут 30. На "сшитой" гусянке добрался до места за светло без проблем. Рваная гусеница чуть позже была снята и пошла в ремонт.

    Hi there. I have a similar snowcat (1980 Thiokol Super Imp). The grousers/cleats on your tracks seem to be a lot taller than on my tracks. Mine suck up the hills on our property in the mountains... I have seen in your other snowcat videos that you seem to be a DIY-er... Do you have any tip on how to make cleats yourself, or where to buy grousers cheap...? Called a couple of places, but they are charging 12-14,000 for just the cleats..

    • @budnixon
      @budnixon  Před 8 lety +1

      +Back to Nature Living with snowcats you got 2 options - learn how make all those things yourself, or pay someone else for it (which option is a matter of how deep the pocket is and how much time you have)...
      Grousers are different on even same machines, since they get used differently on different type of terrain.
      Its all about fitting to one's need.
      Cheers

      I was on a team that ran path profiles for LOS microwave shots between Anchorage and Fairbanks., and spent quite a few hours in them little machines...
      things happen. We were always ready for at least spending one night in the cold, but we had HF/SSB.
      Most of us were out of shape techs and engineers...Humping 50 miles in knee deep snow , we would never have made it .
      But probably your just off the roads close to a cell so there is no need for that type of safety margin.
