I would have to say ‘no’ to the question if “light as a feather, stiff as a board” was originated by this movie. I remember (unsuccessfully) playing that dumb game at summer camp in the mid-‘80s, and even then we knew it to be something that’d been around for a long time. I’d be willing to bet it’s hundreds of years old.

3 fun facts about this movie - Fairuza actually bought the magic shop that was in this movie; she still owns it to this day. "Fairuza" is Farsi for "Turquoise"; supposedly she was named by her father who, upon first seeing her after being born, said "fairuza" when he saw the color of her eyes. Last fact - I've had a thing for Fairuza ever since I saw "the craft" as a teenager back around '97 or so.

To answer some of your questions, to be assigned as Earth, Air, Fire, and Water, it depends on your Zodiac sign. Like Taurus is Earth, Leo is Fire, Libra is Air, Cancer is Water, etc, etc. And with invoking the Spirit, it depends on what you are using it for, just like the store lady said “She takes it to a dark place.” Invoking the Spirit can be used for good if the intentions are good and it can be bad if the intentions are bad. If the intention is bad and the person abuses it, it can backfire or like they said “You get it back times three”. Karma’s a bitch lol

Funny you should ask who gets to stand in which position during the ritual. There's actually a deep symbolic foreshadowing involved in the placement.
Most of Nancy's scenes show her standing near fire, while most of Sarah's scenes have her surrounded by plants and rocks, implying that Sarah is an "earth" spirit, and Nancy is a "fire" spirit. But when they actually perform the invocation, Nancy is standing in the north position, traditionally associated with earth, not fire. It subtly hints that Nancy is taking on a role that was meant for Sarah.

Hmm - Brittany Murphy woulda killed this (Nancy) role? Maybe I'm naive, but I felt that Fairuza Balk kinda killed it. In fact, I thought that Fairuza carried the whole goddamned film; without her, it would've been a VOID. Robin Tunney and Neve Campbell really didn't add anything to the movie and poor Rachel True - although good - just wasn't offered enough of the script to fully exploit her acting chops.
Nope - I think the dial-ins shoulda given Fairuza a hefty slice of their paychecks - she was the STAR+++

I've always looooved this movie. Even though I was probably a little too young for it, I watched it back when it was first released on VHS(!) and I've watched it probably most Halloweens since then on VHS, DVD and blu-ray. There was something so cool about it, and it had this eeriness to it that wasn't too much, but also not so little that it was boring or cheesy. It might feel a little dated now, but it's totally a classic '90s movie. Perfect for October viewings. It gives me the same kinda vibe as the first Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer etc.
Would I hang out with those kinda girls? I did 😆 I was very much in that kinda circle (pun thoroughly intended) for several years. Never did anything quite as drastic as Nancy though, I swear!
6:24 - You're actually right, that *is* glue. It's the adhesive from the scar tissue prosthetic. Apparently it was very painful for Neve to wear. She couldn't even fully enjoy it when it was removed each time though, since the glue removal process hurt so much as well.

"The Witches of Eastwick," "Practical Magic," "Warlock," "The Covenant," and "Hocus Pocus," were other favourites. Also, "Suspiria" and "The Wicker Man" (1973) are worth a watch.

“Light as a feather stiff as a board” we did it middle school which would have been 1983 or 1984 for me. Except we had a 350 pound janitor sitting in a chair on lunch break. Still kind of freaky.

I think it’s them coming from a place of vengeance and not having power in their everyday lives and then the power they gain combined with their intent corrupts them. Our good girl is mostly along to belong with people who she (rightfully) initially sees as being the least shitty people in her school. That might seem like a long way of getting to “power corrupts”, but that’s because I think it’s an over simplification for this movie and in general.

I have a lame claim to fame bumping into Fairuza Balk briefly at a Vancouver shindig way back in our old Expo 86 days. (yes, that was 1986, not 1886 smartass) Fairuza is/was a local girl.
she did a little short about B.C. with an alien or something I can't remember now.... but I knew her from that bad Oz remake.... thought she was a little cutie.... gorgeous turquoisey/bluish eyes.
I'm fairly sure that "Marcia Brady" actress was married to Ben Stiller til recently... almost creepy he used to perv on the OG Marcia then married the look-a-like but they had a good run I guess.
thanks for another great reaction..... not sure if one of these videos says where you're based but just curious, not stalking..... IATSE and/or SAG too, I'm guessing/hoping? .....
