Those rubber plugs are to keep water from accumulating and rusting. I had a couple missing on mine and rust started to form in the recessed hex socket.

Thanks for the feedback👍 Unfortunate those hex heads rust. You would think Honda would chrome them better rather than spend money to install little bits of rubber...🤔

Always happy to see a new RRW video. Excited to watch the Goldwing project videos! Maybe it will help me stop kicking myself for not buying your ST1300…

The rubber plugs stop dirt doubters from packing the hole full of dirt / mud, then when you have to clean all that out to remove it, what a royal pain that is, you'll be glad you still have all those plugs still in place.

This will be interesting to catch up on. I very nearly went down the Goldwing route but I just don't need the extra bulk. ST1300 weighs 100 kg less and carries more fuel... Saying that, I know if I chuck a leg over one, I'll be in trouble. 😁

Thanks Ryan! There will be a new video on this bike in a couple months as getting parts has been difficult. That said things are coming together now.

I had seen some of your previous video of you struggling with the ST1300. Yes, there is a number of things that can cause issues with them, but after owning 5 ST1300s (I still have three of them) and putting on over 396,000 miles on them, since November 2005, I am a bit biased....you should have kept the ST1300! ;)
Good to see you were able to get the GW started. Good luck with it.

Thanks Rob, having owned three ST1300's this swap was more about opportunity than a personal preference.

A few month ago, I saw a video about a 25 years old guy that a Honda like this one, stripped it for off road ! ! ! ! He had a ball riding fire road with it then he went wilder. . attempted at a clif ! ! ! very steep and high slope. . . He almost reached up but just almost. . . . he dropped it and it tumbled down the cliff for more than a minute it broke most all plastic parts, broke one handle bar one head cover IT was atrocious. . . He picked some tools, silicone and a portable welder , went back to the big honda, fixed all he could , then it fired right up, drove down and. . . . . turned around and charged straight up and made it. . . . loosing parts along the climb, , ,It was MAD, , and the destroyed Honda road back home on the road ! ! ! ! Theses big Hondas are INDESTRUCRABLE. . almost ETERNAL. . . as GODs. .

Don't get me wrong there's a better and faster out there but it's a good buy for what it is and what it's meant to do it's been to Arizona twice not a problem

😱 I dunno about how cheap $$$$ Goldwing owners are, but would hope that the oil at 3,000 miles had been changed once from the break in period at like a minimum of 500 miles, or 1,000 miles at least, yikes! Sorry to pile on, but *shudder* ya, that "music"...dude. erm...🤢 Great videos though 😁

Hi L S, first service on the GL1800 5th Gen is 4000mi, remember it is more of a car engine than a motorcycle. I believe the 6th Gen built after 2017 is even longer. Fortnine did oil tests on brand new bikes across different manufacturer's to see who makes the dirtiest engine. czcams.com/video/9GAUo8eUXeU/video.html All I will say is Luigi has some spaining' to do... Thanks for the feedback & the view!

Hi Rod, Really enjoyed the mods to the ST1300 videos but amazed you used a K@N air filter which are rubbish and cause rapid engine wear. Please check out PATRICKS CYCLE SHOP MORRISON on youtube. He did some tests about 5 years ago which are quite revealing.Cheers Tim
