If you want a Panther for your Drizzt then just grab the Drow hireling and respec them into a moon druid and have them stay in Panther form all the time. :)
@@GrimGaddy There are some pretty decent scimitars out there too. You can make an Admantium one in Grymforge, and get one from Dammon at the start of act 2 called the Thorn Blade. And there is the the Dark Justicars scimitar in the Trials area. There are also 2 great scimtars available in Act 3; a +2 Scimitar, and Belm. You'll want to be sure to grab all of those. Have Fun :)!

I absolutely love the Salvatore books growing up. This build is awesome! I especially love the dip into barbarian in honor of Drizzt’s time at The Hunter. That basilisk never stood a chance. 🤣
Nexusmods has a mod that gives you Drizzt's equipment when you start. It's in a chest on the Nautiloid. Twinkle, Icing death, Drow Armor, Gloves that start you with Faire Fire and Darkness, Boots for Speed and a wondrous figurine that you can mount on the head giving you a Black Panther summon!
BG3 has inspired me to read the Drizzt's books. I'm going in order. Started with Homeland and am currently at Passage to Dawn book 10. Been a great ride thus far. Edit: A couple of mods I recommend from Nexus: Drizzt equipment is a must! Gives you Gwen and his gear. Faces of Faerun ~ the Rickard head makes a great Drizzts face. And on PC with Cheat Engine or in my case I have a life tiem membership to cheat happens. You can edit Drizzts stats to reflect his 5e character sheet.
I have two mods specifically for that lovely panther! I will say though the assets they chose (the spider silk armor) I’m not the biggest fan of the aesthetics, +1 chain mail I feel looks a bit closer. The scimitars are great especially in act 2 😏
Great build! My only gripe is that Drizzt would be body type 1. Drow are short. He's like 5'3". Remember Uthegental was a Giant among them and he was described as "closer to 6' than 5'.
I don't think using Drizzt's 3e class progression makes sense in 5e, given how much the system has changed. And it wouldn't be the first time he's changed class, seeing as in 2e he was a pureclass lvl 16 Ranger. For a 5e Drizzt build, I would go something like this: Seldarine Drow, Folk Hero/Outlander. Ability scores: Str 10 / dex 17 / con 14 / int 12 / wis 14 / cha 8 Option 1: Ranger core - 1-5: Ranger, Gloom Stalker. Two-weapon fighting. Feat: Athlete with +1 Dex Spells: Hunter's Mark, Pass Without Trace + (choose 2): Longstrider, Speak with Animals, Enhanced Leap - 6-8: Fighter, Battlemaster. Defense or archery style. - 9-12: Barbarian, Wildheart Feat: Ability Score Increase: +2 Dex Option 2: Fighter core 1-5: Fighter, Battlemaster. Two-weapon fighting. Feat: Athlete with +1 Dex 6-8: Ranger, Gloom Stalker. Defense or archery style. Spells: Hunter's Mark + (choose 2): Longstrider, Speak with Animals, Enhanced Leap 9-11: Barbarian, Wildheart 12: Barbarian or Fighter Feat: +2 Dex Of these two, the Fighter core is probably more correct in terms of roleplay, but I think the Ranger core is overall stronger as Rangers are one of the most frontloaded classes in 5e. I think building towards 5 levels in both Fighter and Ranger is a waste when you could pick up more subclass features instead, since Extra Attack doesn't stack with itself. Lvl 5 as a Fighter also gives very little, unlike the Ranger that provides more spellcasting (3 -> 4+2 spellslots). I highly recommend not relying on items for two-weapon fighting, because it shares an itemslot with a number of more powerful options. By the time you can get said bracers, you can also get a hold of gauntlets that increase all weapon damage by 1d4 fire damage per attack. Later you can get gauntlets that increase both damage and accuracy by +2. +1 AC early isn't worth the tradeoff, and ranged accuracy can be manipulated through high ground because of Larian shennanigans. You can choose different feats, but in my experience the Athlete and 20 dex is very useful to have.
The joys of peepaw withers is you can respec as necessary items or no supplementing abilities that no longer need the feat/fighting styles. I do love Athlete, though I tend to keep it to more a filler feat than anything else or to round out str or dex.
I love Drizzt and I love this build. The only change I would make would be to dump the barbarian levels for either more fighter or ranger, only because The Hunter persona is something Drizzt doesn't really tap into much if ever in the later books.
You know, you make an excellent point with Gloom Stalker. It's part of his Hunter persona is how I'd reason it. Now mechanics-wise if you want Gwen, unless Larian put in an item that summons a panther or someone adds a mod to do that, I'd only argue Beast Master so you can fulfill the iconic pairing of Drizzt and Gwen. Regardless, I back you up on the Gloom Stalker argument. Addendum: I plan on making Gorion for my first playthrough. I plan on making him a Sorcerer/Rogue so I can cast Magic Missile a thousand times in a round to simulate that capability from BG1.
was it a standalone mod? If so I know it and reconmend the hell out of it, between the visuals they use for the summoning, the various actions it can take and the fact she even levels with you she is a permanent companion in most of my games Drizzt focused or not!
Personally I don't like using Ranger for a Drizzt build, as unintuitive as that sounds. The problem is that Rangers are a 1/3rd caster in 5e but they had no magical ability back when Drizzt was created in the late 80's, which leaves a weird clash as Drizzt is openly dismissive of using magic in combat, I prefer to go Battle Master Fighter 6, Thief Rogue 4, Barbarian 2. I prefer to take TWF at Level 1, it makes you more effective in combat straight away and there are better options for bracers and armour later in the game than those that offer you TWF. I go Alert, Savage Attacker and +2Dex for feats which with the Hags hair and the mirror in the House of Grief means you can get from 17 to 22 Dex and there's a bow at the end of Act 1 that gives you Hunters Mark. Thief is amazing for the extra Bonus Action so you can make 4 attacks per turn or Dash/Disengage/Hide and still have 3 attacks.
@@GrimGaddy It's one of the builds I'm currently running with and it's a lot of fun, running across the screen and slicing things up. And the bow is actually from Dammon in the Emerald Grove so you can pick it up really early on.

@@spidergoat1 You've only got 12 levels to play with so something has to give, might as well be Ranger since Drizzt makes almost no use of it's features. You've also got to deal with the fact that 5e handles 2 weapon fighting pretty badly, so if you want him to be anything like as effective as in the stories you really need those 3 levels of Rogue.
My only problem with the build, right off the bat you should have two-weapon fighter style. Yes, you can get gloves that do it too but that’s at Act 2, not to mention there are other gloves you can get that are better, plus you can make Dual-Wielding viable at lv1.
@@GrimGaddy my thing is this, if the class feature gives you it already, getting an item to do it seems like a waste. The fighter class gives you dual-wielding proficiency. The Ranger class gives you archery proficiency. Why not get those instead of getting items to replicate those abilities.
@@brandonjones5879 +1 to AC, which I never shrug at. Essentially I had to pick between three with only being able to take two, seeing as I had a pair of bracers that made up for one I use those. Though even in the video I do recommend taking it though warn it may become redundant through gear. Which in my playthrough it has. Ultimately though for the fun of it now that I've played it awhile and toyed with it, Archery is nice though not necessary in the long run. I was actually thinking of remaking this video after a minor editing error I noticed as well as slight changes in my opinion since I've been using it.
@@GrimGaddy +1 AC isn’t great in the long run especially if you’re going to be high dex. You’re not going to be hard up for AC running high Dex. Not to mention, this supposed to be making a Drizzt build. I mean making a Drizzt build without two-weapon fighting at lv1, makes less sense overall imo. Also running dual-wielding will make up for that damage issue you claimed to have. I’ve run about three DWing characters, with Str and Dex, and I’ve never had an issue with damage.
I'm just saying though mate... I do recommend taking the fighting style at level 1 verbally, I simply justify why it may be swapped out later. I respect the passion but you're kinda beating a dead horse at this point. Also +1 to anything can make or break a roll, again may not seem great to some but gold to others.
This is my first playthrough character! I started with a thief, but he looks up to Drizzt. I could never find the right scimitars to dual wield. I'm almost done with this playthrough and just discovered a rapier that deals some pretty impressive damage, if off-hand is empty.
Things I would like for them to fix or add in the game are Figurines of wonderous power,and the ability to have six members in your party and I wish they would adopt the roll for stats instead, of just point application
Yeah, I have read 2 of the novels about Drizzt, great reads. Would be interesting to play as a Drow since there is so much hate for them on the upper world.
Oh it’s interesting as Larian insures you know Drow aren’t a common or welcome sight more often then not 🤣 It’s made a few tense moments in my playthrough!
Yeah in DnD lore (or it was until they recently retconned the drow) it was the general rule of thumb to kill any Drow you see on sight, because where there is one, there is likely to be more. It was really funny in the game where the kid in the grove sees you as a drow, they say something long the lines of how Drow kidnap children and your response can be ‘no we kill more children than we do enslave.’ And in the goblin camp, you can try and convince the spiders that you are lolth in disguise and if you fail the deception roll, the narrator says that lolth is displeased. Not because you tried to be her, but that you simply failed in trying. Which is so spot on, given in Drow society, you can get away with anything, provided no one can prove it was you.
@@DarTunwarm I did appreciate the in game reception to being a drow, kids flee, tieflings ready blades and goblins fear you. And deurgar are… well, dicks to everyone.
And yes, lolth cares more for if the deed is noticed rather than the deed itself. Wipe out an entire house and family? As long as there’s no witness you’ll be silently praised. Drow are brutal and subtle.
@@GrimGaddy Yeah, it’s a really nuanced society, or at least those that go by lothite rules, as there are Drow cities in the underdark that are not Matriarchal and follow other gods.
Of course this the best set of novels and with BG3 you can play the characters you have read about for so long. Drizzt should be a Ranger/Monk though, he has transcended once and was taught by the Grandmaster of Flowers.

hmm so you built Drizzt, without animal companions and without dual wield. So you just built a perfectly normal Drow. Nothing that defines Drizzt, other than his father being a warrior, is included in your build ;)

His animal companion came from a magical artifact? ergo best emulation is something another viewer mentioned of making a moon druid a sort of Gwyn companion for drizzt (love that idea actually, even used Halsin for it!) And I built it... with... Dual Wielding?? literally? Even mentioned how you could take the feat and fighting style though gear later may make it obsolete later and to use those feats/points for say, savage attacker to get that extra oomph of damage to emulate Drizzt's skill and proficiency? @@VeteranDecanus86 Ah but not all play drow. It took me years to actually look into who Drizzt was after my introduction to Dungeon's and Dragons. My first Drow was a war cleric named Kelvyr of a House Not Worth Mentioning. But thats just me, as your views are yours and neither represent the whole.
Since Drizzt is meant to represent the ranger class thematically, he is technically all three of the subclasses. Gameplay wise it would better to go beast master ranger and rogue, since you already get superiors dark vision from Drow. Alternatively you can respec one of your companions into moon druid and have them transform into the sabretooth cat which is closer to panther, then a bear or a wolf.
Awesome! I kinda made my first character look like what I imagined Drizz to be…. Tho I didn’t give him the right class. I think I gotta do a another run and reaaaaally match his personality better.
@@GrimGaddy I used the under mountain blade and the helm scimitar. The armor you get from Damon in act 3. The caustic band and the ring that does psychic damage if your concentrating on a spell. The crow was amazing but it was a weak build gale and Karlach carried lol

Great build. The only thing I dislike, and it's minor really, is the skin color. At some point many D&D players seem to have decided to ignore the fact that the description of Drow in general and Drizzt specifically, from 1st Edition to 5th, is they have jet black skin that resembles polished obsidian. Seems like all the games and art of drow nowadays gives them grey, bluish grey, or purple skin. Okay, I'll stop ranting now. Really great build though.
I feel that as some one who’s read nearly all of the drizzt books, aesthetically I went for how the art depicts him. I do agree though, he’s always described as dark black in skin tone.
@@spidergoat1 oh I recently tried my own hand at that! I gave up on the woad honestly til either mods show or I figure out how to do my own 🤣 Ohhh she’s mean though, and we don’t have khoza’s needle but we get a lot of gear options that kinda fit the role.
You ever figure out you're split screen co op issue? If not just have your wife switch characters (give her 2 to control) and when she does this the camera will realign
I let people choose lucky at my tables. The DM is fustrated by it hasbti be avrumor, because players with lucky do what all gamers do. “‘Save it incase i can use it later.”
It’s a great feat, and after so many players who have had terrible luck on dice rolls I sometimes just give them an item with the lucky feat 🤣 The lucky dagger.

@@GrimGaddyThere is too many to list here. Example would be, when choosing fighter, you say pick defence because there’s stuff you can pick up in game. Well that is a choice made for stats rather than canonical background, where two handed fighting would be the more sensible one given drizzt is shown to be ambidextrous (his dad did the coins on elbows thing for malice, to prove his skills of being exceptional with his two handed skills, made him a better choice to be a fighter, rather than wizard). Next up his background - he was born and raised a noble as he was a noble of house do’urder rather than born a commoner like his dad. Then you add two levels in barbarian.. drizzt has never been a barbarian. He was a fighter, then ranger. Not barbarian. Yes you point out he was alone in the underdark being ‘the Hunter’ but he was never being a barbarian. He never ran about without his armor on for a start and he was hunting with Gwen. So again not a barbarian. More examples after that, but I think I’ve made my point.
Yes he was a noble… of menzobarenzon. And if we’re starting Drizzt at his most viable start just prior to melee-magthere also yes. This however was made in the idea that Drizzt is around, as in the time the game takes place Drizzt would still be active, I chose folk hero as it acts in line with who drizzt is, noble… does not 🤣 You do make fair points however! And it’s comments like this that make me consider redoing it, as this whole filled with effort was some what slapped together, as I did not think it’d get the reception it has!
@@GrimGaddy drizzt is a very popular character and he tends to be like marmite to most people. Either they love him or hate him. For myself as a fan of the Drow, I found him to be a dislikable character given all his whinging and hand wringing ended up causing the destruction of his house, which included the death of hundreds of Drow and Drow slaves. Not to mention the sacrifice of his father. I get he wasn’t a lothite and that Drow society wasn’t for him, but to be fair, neither was his dad. But Zaknafien hated lolth and drow society too, but managed to find a way to thrive in it and strike back at Lolth without it costing hundreds of innocent lives. Zak and jarlaxle were far more interesting and nuanced characters imo, than drizzt who was just a whinge bag really.

He actually turned the braces into anklets. He then needed top tale time to adjust for the foot speed. He had non magical boots..

I tried in pathfinder wrath of the righteous. Other than having a jaguar instead of a panther it was pretty spot on!

You've also got to deal with the fact that 5e handles 2 weapon fighting pretty badly, so if you want him to be anything like as effective as in the stories you really need those 3 levels of Rogue.

My only problem with the build, right off the bat you should have two-weapon fighter style. Yes, you can get gloves that do it too but that’s at Act 2, not to mention there are other gloves you can get that are better, plus you can make Dual-Wielding viable at lv1.
All true! Honestly there’s also a pair of gloves that give archery as well! And proficiency with longbows 😏
So even that isn’t as necessary 🤣
@@GrimGaddy my thing is this, if the class feature gives you it already, getting an item to do it seems like a waste. The fighter class gives you dual-wielding proficiency. The Ranger class gives you archery proficiency. Why not get those instead of getting items to replicate those abilities.
@@brandonjones5879 +1 to AC, which I never shrug at. Essentially I had to pick between three with only being able to take two, seeing as I had a pair of bracers that made up for one I use those.
Though even in the video I do recommend taking it though warn it may become redundant through gear. Which in my playthrough it has. Ultimately though for the fun of it now that I've played it awhile and toyed with it, Archery is nice though not necessary in the long run.
I was actually thinking of remaking this video after a minor editing error I noticed as well as slight changes in my opinion since I've been using it.
@@GrimGaddy +1 AC isn’t great in the long run especially if you’re going to be high dex. You’re not going to be hard up for AC running high Dex. Not to mention, this supposed to be making a Drizzt build. I mean making a Drizzt build without two-weapon fighting at lv1, makes less sense overall imo. Also running dual-wielding will make up for that damage issue you claimed to have. I’ve run about three DWing characters, with Str and Dex, and I’ve never had an issue with damage.
I'm just saying though mate... I do recommend taking the fighting style at level 1 verbally, I simply justify why it may be swapped out later. I respect the passion but you're kinda beating a dead horse at this point. Also +1 to anything can make or break a roll, again may not seem great to some but gold to others.
This is my first playthrough character! I started with a thief, but he looks up to Drizzt. I could never find the right scimitars to dual wield. I'm almost done with this playthrough and just discovered a rapier that deals some pretty impressive damage, if off-hand is empty.
The scimitar selection admittedly isn’t great, but combo with a few rings and the right scimitars with hunters mark and it’ll be just as deadly! 😉
Things I would like for them to fix or add in the game are Figurines of wonderous power,and the ability to have six members in your party and I wish they would adopt the roll for stats instead, of just point application

Yeah, I have read 2 of the novels about Drizzt, great reads. Would be interesting to play as a Drow since there is so much hate for them on the upper world.

Yeah in DnD lore (or it was until they recently retconned the drow) it was the general rule of thumb to kill any Drow you see on sight, because where there is one, there is likely to be more. It was really funny in the game where the kid in the grove sees you as a drow, they say something long the lines of how Drow kidnap children and your response can be ‘no we kill more children than we do enslave.’ And in the goblin camp, you can try and convince the spiders that you are lolth in disguise and if you fail the deception roll, the narrator says that lolth is displeased. Not because you tried to be her, but that you simply failed in trying. Which is so spot on, given in Drow society, you can get away with anything, provided no one can prove it was you.

And yes, lolth cares more for if the deed is noticed rather than the deed itself.
Wipe out an entire house and family? As long as there’s no witness you’ll be silently praised. Drow are brutal and subtle.
@@GrimGaddy Yeah, it’s a really nuanced society, or at least those that go by lothite rules, as there are Drow cities in the underdark that are not Matriarchal and follow other gods.

Of course this the best set of novels and with BG3 you can play the characters you have read about for so long. Drizzt should be a Ranger/Monk though, he has transcended once and was taught by the Grandmaster of Flowers.

His animal companion came from a magical artifact? ergo best emulation is something another viewer mentioned of making a moon druid a sort of Gwyn companion for drizzt (love that idea actually, even used Halsin for it!) And I built it... with... Dual Wielding?? literally? Even mentioned how you could take the feat and fighting style though gear later may make it obsolete later and to use those feats/points for say, savage attacker to get that extra oomph of damage to emulate Drizzt's skill and proficiency?

@@VeteranDecanus86 Ah but not all play drow. It took me years to actually look into who Drizzt was after my introduction to Dungeon's and Dragons. My first Drow was a war cleric named Kelvyr of a House Not Worth Mentioning.

Since Drizzt is meant to represent the ranger class thematically, he is technically all three of the subclasses.
Gameplay wise it would better to go beast master ranger and rogue, since you already get superiors dark vision from Drow.
Alternatively you can respec one of your companions into moon druid and have them transform into the sabretooth cat which is closer to panther, then a bear or a wolf.
Won’t lie moment I got Jaheira she was never not a panther 🤣🤣
Currently, in the books, he's also invested pretty heavy into Monk.
And he kicked a table in half as a flex 🤣

It is an absurdly fun run to do won’t lie, it’s been my favorite play-through to date! Flows beautifully with how you’d expect Drizzt to act 😁

@@GrimGaddy I used the under mountain blade and the helm scimitar. The armor you get from Damon in act 3. The caustic band and the ring that does psychic damage if your concentrating on a spell. The crow was amazing but it was a weak build gale and Karlach carried lol

The only thing I dislike, and it's minor really, is the skin color. At some point many D&D players seem to have decided to ignore the fact that the description of Drow in general and Drizzt specifically, from 1st Edition to 5th, is they have jet black skin that resembles polished obsidian. Seems like all the games and art of drow nowadays gives them grey, bluish grey, or purple skin.
Okay, I'll stop ranting now.

I feel that as some one who’s read nearly all of the drizzt books, aesthetically I went for how the art depicts him. I do agree though, he’s always described as dark black in skin tone.

@@GrimGaddyThere is too many to list here. Example would be, when choosing fighter, you say pick defence because there’s stuff you can pick up in game. Well that is a choice made for stats rather than canonical background, where two handed fighting would be the more sensible one given drizzt is shown to be ambidextrous (his dad did the coins on elbows thing for malice, to prove his skills of being exceptional with his two handed skills, made him a better choice to be a fighter, rather than wizard). Next up his background - he was born and raised a noble as he was a noble of house do’urder rather than born a commoner like his dad. Then you add two levels in barbarian.. drizzt has never been a barbarian. He was a fighter, then ranger. Not barbarian. Yes you point out he was alone in the underdark being ‘the Hunter’ but he was never being a barbarian. He never ran about without his armor on for a start and he was hunting with Gwen. So again not a barbarian. More examples after that, but I think I’ve made my point.

This however was made in the idea that Drizzt is around, as in the time the game takes place Drizzt would still be active, I chose folk hero as it acts in line with who drizzt is, noble… does not 🤣
You do make fair points however! And it’s comments like this that make me consider redoing it, as this whole filled with effort was some what slapped together, as I did not think it’d get the reception it has!
@@GrimGaddy drizzt is a very popular character and he tends to be like marmite to most people. Either they love him or hate him. For myself as a fan of the Drow, I found him to be a dislikable character given all his whinging and hand wringing ended up causing the destruction of his house, which included the death of hundreds of Drow and Drow slaves. Not to mention the sacrifice of his father. I get he wasn’t a lothite and that Drow society wasn’t for him, but to be fair, neither was his dad. But Zaknafien hated lolth and drow society too, but managed to find a way to thrive in it and strike back at Lolth without it costing hundreds of innocent lives. Zak and jarlaxle were far more interesting and nuanced characters imo, than drizzt who was just a whinge bag really.
