  • The New 2024 Road Glide has been a roller coaster and that's putting it mildly. I've had it for about 2 months now and I still haven't had the bike in my garge for more than 2 weeks at a time. Let's talk about the issues I've had with the 2024 Road Glide.

I traded my 2022 RG Special for a 2023 RGS last December with the notion of maybe trading again in 2025. I wanted to see if the liquid cooled 117 had any issues on the 24's.....and the new fairing electronics/etc to some extent. I always do a 1000 mi round trip for my break-in and 1st oil/pri/trans change. I wonder if his issue is becoming commonplace on the '24 Tour bikes or if this is an isolated issue ? Sounds like HD might have a recall issue......Aw well, I haven't been stranded yet so I know I'll be on a RG w/ 117 in '25. There's a lot to like about the new RG...... Hope this ends up a simple fix...

The problems began in 2021 with the Sportster S. Your 2024 shows me that HD hasn't resolved the issues they knew about then and are putting flawed engineered systems on new models. My issues are as follows:
    1. Timing Chain Tensioner failure. The engine was rebuilt at 4200 miles and spent months in the shop.
    2. Software defects. Multiple "updates"
    3. Battery drains if not left on a tender. The bike won’t start until the battery is charged.
    4. Fuel Pump failure at 4K miles.
I have found some workarounds. I keep my key fob stored away from my bike. I leave it in Sport mode all the time.
I don't trust it. Warranty expires in a month, and I will sell it on the cheap if anyone is interested. HD should have bought it back, but the local dealership refused to repay the amount I overpaid for it...
I appreciate you telling the truth about these bikes. There is some relief in knowing it's not just me having issues.

Great video, but it’s sad that you had to make it. I’m an old man now, not able to ride anymore because of health reasons. In my younger years I never rode anything but Harleys. Yes, the early models had their issues, always leaked oil when you put the kickstand down. Regardless, they were engineered simple enough that I could wrench them myself, so even if I had an issue on the open road I could usually get it back running long enough to take it to a dealer if the repair needed was beyond my capability. In 2003 I bought a brand new 100 year anniversary Fat Boy. Great ride and I loved it, put a 1,000 miles on it when the engine started sputtering. Long story short, the dealership finally replaced the engine. I’ll always remember coming out of the dealership one day when another guy asked me, “What piece of shit did you buy?” After listening to your experience I am left to believe Harley Davidson is still selling shitty bikes.

I bought a 114 Heritage Classic softail fantastic bike, no nonsense TV on the front or navigation. I use my phone with a blue tooth to my helmet for navigation and music. T have ridden the street glide and road glide for around a 4,000 miles each, they are over weight over rated prices of shit. There's no need for a pile heavy of tech in the fairing weighing down the front and making braking and low speed manoeuvring harder, wasting gas and wearing the tyres out. The rubber mounted engine isa liability, why H-D have not been sued i don't knoe, The heritage is more comfortable, handles like it's on rails uses less gas and tyres, and is a gentleman's motorcycle with manners and subtlety not something tattooed ruffians will understand.

Ok so, full disclosure. I bought a 2022 PAS from Stampede HD in Burleson TX last April. My 1st HD. I had 6mo and 6K miles of problem free riding. Then for whatever reason all sorts of the issues you have described. Not as soon as with your RG but nonetheless... I feel like the problem is is that we as owners give the motor company too much slack when it comes to releasing these bikes without properly getting them road tested and the information out to the dealers to repair these bikes when a problem, child does slip through the cracks of the final test and fit procedure at the build shop.
It's like we all say "well that's what happens" and "that's just all part of the ownership experience" . But really it should be unacceptable. Honestly, we should not accept anything less than just about perfect with a modern motorcycle built in 2022 or 2024 or whenever. When I called for an explanation I was a bit frustrated and I asked my dealer why he thought there were all these problems with my bike and he told me "these bikes have a lot of tech in them" and I told him that I don't think that's a good excuse for these bikes not running the way they should. A lot of things that are on the road have a lot of " tech in them ". My grocery getter Toyota Corolla has an awful lot of tech in it and it starts and runs fine. Every single time I hit the start button. Hell my refrigerator has a lot of tech in it and it runs fine as well so I don't accept that as a problem with again a modern motorcycle. We as owners need to quit accepting and being so forgiving of the motor company for delivering a vehicle that has flaws that soon out of the gate regardless of the fact that the warranty is unlimited miles or what have you.
I am glad that the bike seems to be running good. I've had my eye on that model as well so I'm paying very close attention to all these tests and review bikes of the 2024 road glides. I love the appearance of that bike and I would love to actually buy one, but it's tough when I see owners having the same problems that I'm experiencing on my Pan America.

The issue I've been having from brand new is the fact no music from the speakers. I started taking off the main fuse, unpairing my phone and Cardo but nothing happened until I unplugged the amplifier. Then sound would come out of the speakers. It would work for a few days and then do the same thing. I took it to my local dealer which are awesome people by the way. They said they would do the update and it gave them issues with that. After a week they were able to update the system. When I picked it up I checked the sound and no sound from the speakers still so I turned around and took it to service which they checked again and they found out two fuses were missed placed. The 30amp was where the 15amp goes and vice versa. The switched them and it worked. I've been with the bike for a couple of weeks and sounds has been playing from the speakers until today coming home. I can make it to where I can switch the music to play through my Cardo but not the bike speakers. It's frustrating to have this issue but other than that the bike has not given me any other problems. My bike has only 350 miles I know but they have been city miles where I have turned on and off the bike multiple times without any issues except for the speakers on the bike. This is my first Harley and I'm a novice rider. I do LOVE riding her though. I'll probably take her back to the dealer to see what they say.

I have found in now owning a bike with lots of tech (Indian Pursuit) that electrical/battery issues are consistent. Keeping my bike on a tender (Indian even placed a SAE socket on the top fork mount to make it easy to get to) is a must after every ride and when not in use. For reasons that some say are key fob related (bike looking for it), to small checks the bike does (yes even when not in use) there is a draw. Also in regards to dealers and service, when I was looking at the 24' RG and the Indian as my next bike, the sales people had no idea on Skyline or Ride Command and how to use it, especially the mapping / navigation. They have "special" contacts for these systems, which basically do not solve anything, but they welcome "your input". Your patience is outstanding!

When I am not riding my motorcycles they stay on a battery maintainer - 100% of the time. Modern motorcycles must see the correct voltage when you turn them on and ask them to start. If the battery voltage is even slightly low you run into all kinds of problems. All modern bikes suffer from some degree of parasitic drain when they are not running.

I have been a loyal Harley Davidson rider since 1994, i’m now on my fourth bike, and even if I could afford a brand-new bike, I would not buy it, I think with technology electronics that is now all in these bikes, the bike is never yours, you cannot do what you want to it, you /we are being controlled,

Sorry to hear that. I like the 2024 SG and was seriously thinking of buying one, i think its better to wait till 2025. In Germany i have the possibility to return the bike when there are mutiple returning problems and receive my money back.
I hope for a good turn with your bike.

Not a clear winner over the challenger now is it😂😂😂 30k miles on 22 Indian now and zero issues

Their quality isn’t on the same level as Indian. Sad to say but true. Older HDs with better build quality is a thing of the past.

Thanks, you saved me from making a $30k mistake.
No real surprise though as we saw this with the Pan America.
I didn’t think HD would let a “flagship” bike roll out of the R&D with these issues.
I guess it will be a few years before HD gets the new design issues ironed out.
Sorry, for you and I’m sure everyone else who out there that dropped big money on a problematic turd.

Okay, “turd” is extreme. I’m sure they are stellar bikes. I’m salivating for mine. But, I bought two brand new Triumph’s last year. A Tiger 900 and a Speedmaster. Both have over 2000 miles and have yet to do anything to them other than standard maintenance.

My son got a new sportster s back in 2021. Had electronic issues with it also. It would not start, throw codes, and actually shut off going down the highway. The flew techs in from Milwaukee and nvr fixed the problems. Had it almost a year, and it spent four months of that in the shop. Nvr made it to the 5k service. He finally just let it go back. I told him that he should have lawyered up!
