I feel like someone somewhere in the comments has already mentioned this, but since I scrolled and didn't see it I'll mention it again for anyone else trying this.
The reverse rotation on the Titan 12T motor is actually partially why it's getting so hot in this video. The original motor that was labeled specifically has inverted fan blades. Since the Titan motors have internal fans, the reverse direction motor has the correct fan rotation to help cool the motor. When you run the standard Titan 12T backwards the fan is running the wrong direction, so it's not properly cooling the motor. It's not a huge deal, but the increase in temperature will be quite noticeable.
This used to be one of my go-to upgrades when Axial first released the wraith years ago. It was honestly my secret weapon at the local meets (I didn’t actually keep it a secret, I think that’s silly). Got lots of “brushless?! Must be sensored right?”… many jaws dropped upon hearing it’s a $15 drop-in upgrade they can snag a block away at HobbyTown.
That said, i had stepped away from the hobby for years until just this year when I decided to dive back in. Exactly as expected, I went from “I’ll maybe get a micro to mess with and see how it goes… nothing too crazy”.. to now owning 4 different scx24’s, two are Furitek head to toe, fully upgraded, one is stock and one is a Furitek Rampart conversion, an element enduro gatekeeper, a Losi Hammer Rey, a couple mini-z’s, an FCX24, and I just ordered a TRX-4 K5 blazer last night…
All of that to say, it’s good to see this upgrade is still viable!

Thanks for the advice Mark. I had a 12T in my toolbox. I had a whole new TRX imo. The crossing of the terminals was the best RC advice I’ve ever been given that worked perfectly. I didn’t want to reverse the transmitter. Problem solved!
I’m running 2S, 12T with a heat sink. & I love it. I can lock up the difs and crawl in low gear or unlock my difs hit trails in high gear. Lots of fun.
Honestly, you could probably turn down the throttle response from 100% to 50% (on your transmitter if you have the option) and it would be excellent for crawling! Just an idea!

Wow hands down that is a lot of bang for your buck. For some reason I thought the TRX-4 had the 12 turn in it till I built a slash last weekend and felt the motor in my hand like you expressed it’s hefty.

When I had mine I upgraded to a 2 speed transmission and you will get the speed you are looking for and still be able to trail it no problem
I've been doing this for a while, the reverse rotation 12T from a 16.8 E-Maxx pops right in. Same color wires and "Titan 12T" facing up. if you use a traditional rotation 12T just flip the motor over a have the red wire on top, the sticker will be facing up and it won't look like you have some Frankenstein motor in there

My Daughter Runs the Trx4 Sport 12T Titan Motor with 11tooth pinion and hobby wing 1080esc. the 3s works great.
The 12 turn is a zero degree advance motor so it runs in either direction just fine.
I’ve got a Monster X SCT 2400kv in my TRX4 Blazer! I run it on 4s. Crazy slow crawl and not super fast but fast enough! But that switch to the 12t would probably make mine dang near as fast as the $250 combo cost me lol. Now, the sensored low crawl though….it’s pretty sweet 😎

I’ve run some huge brushless motors on my TRX4 and my sons the portal gears take the most abuse when jumping
Yeah I had 6s in mine and a portal gear and axle broke so I went back to my trusty Holmes hobbies motor
I run on my TRX 6 a 4s Brushless system with a 1900KV Motor a Mamba x 1400er Serie, its working fine with shifting gears

I did it even with the holms hobby 12turn trailmaster green can one and the traxxis 12turn both get hot if you do any slow crawling

My 10t Holmes got a bit warm on the 2 speed it had the short shaft on it. . I called and they sent me a 12t longer shaft.. Holmes is excellent

A fast crawler is actually a great idea, that’s my specialty favorite! Nothing and I mean nothing compares to Crawlers scale features and only if it was fast. I love bashers , but they aren’t realistic looking. So a fast TRX4 F-150 High trail edition or a 79 K10 or a k5 Blazer High trail edition with a minimum 30mph would be a hits
What kind of motor/esc would you recommend for that, and what would the kv rating on the motor be.. I want 30-35mph on my trailrunner for PRE RUNNER bashing.

I got vxl in my gray chevy black mamba tires its fast but you can take out 8 more screws and swap out spur gear the 45 tooth very easy unhook drive shaft tho and just lift transmission up take out battery box one screw out of bottom and 3 out of transmission on top .

Holmes Hobbies sport masters are the king of under $20 performance.
I run a reedy radon 12t advanced 5 degrees on 3s in my axial 10.2, it's been well over 2yrs and I'm running a heat sink with fan.
How fast is it? And why do you advance it?

On my buy soon list is a TRX4. I'm sure I'll want to make it faster...I wonder what else fits that won't grenade the drivetrain. I'll probably have a stock Sledge motor soon. I'm not sure if would fit. If so run it on 3S... could even use the ESC, or ....
I been trying to find a video that covers my idea. Could you put a velineon brushless motor like from a rustler vxl into a crawler like a bronco and have a fast crawler that can crawl well?
Swapping the wires on a 12t, it will have advanced timing in reverse. Faster in rev.That is why the 21 turn is the reverse version in the trx4-6 trucks. The 12 t may run cooler since it has retarded timing in rev(May last longer). Holmes hobbies has an 8t 5 slot that will outlast, outperform, that titan and it is a zero° timing motor, so you can run it in a slash, or a trx4, it won't matter. It also comes with bearings as opposed to the titan, and costs 2$ less.
These motors last on 4s too. It's a no brainer Mark.
That is if your really looking to bash the trx4... I would love to see a brushed motor shootout for the trx4.

Are those tires 1.9's? They look larger than stock. I'm wondering if the stock wheels would cause the truck to roll over more with the locked diffs since they have less sidewall.
On a side note, since you do trail runs, is the TRX4 Sport good for trailing or is the TRX4 with the two-speed tranny and unlockable diffs better (either truck meets the budget)? I've seen your midnight run videos and those trails are like what we'd be walking on, too? Considering the TRX6 as well. I'm just down in Frisco and hoping to be able to join one of your midnight runs when it cools off some.

You should've probably done a water break in , in reverse. It would run those brushes in and make it much peppier

HEY MARK, questions for you... Do you have any enduro crawlers? Have you tried making a pre-runner out of any crawlers? I am about to start a project on a brand new Enduro Trailrunner with Yeti rear trailing arms, 5" rear proline shocks and about to pull the trigger on a brushless system but trying to figure out if I should go 5100kv or lower... I am only looking for about 30-35mph but what I really want is an IFS rig, with the live rear axle, and hanging that axle in the air while jumping stuff... Already got the kit parts for all my anti-rollbar and trailing arms. Trying to figure out the motor/esc combo. Let me know your thoughts... This made me lol. I love it.

Try the 8t Holmes hobbies. It will be 25% slower than the 12t titan, but last 10 times as long. Surprised that the 12t didn't explode on the first pulls...
Edit: you can gear up, and get the same speed and more raw torque...

I use a 8t Crawlmaster in my Sport. I run it on 3S and I love it.
Hi is this a standard stock trx4 sport with just a different motor looking for some extra speed in mine without spending g a fortune :-)

Im not sure it's the engine ther is gonna go first put a fan on it and I think it will run for a long time. But if you read about the esc it says something about motor limit on 3s? If I remember correctly. I run the exact same setup in my hpi wheely king with fan no problems.. btw nice video 👌👌👌👌
if you want to make this trx4 even faster you just need to place a injora 550 10t brushed motor, its almost the same price and its even faster than this one, i really recomend.

We did that and on the flat it was great. But when we crawled with it we smoked the motor.

Idea. try summit 750 brushed motor its a drill motor. If it fits
Swap the rotation in the esc if you can. Get that bugger moving! I had a trx sport on a mamba x witha 1514 can 2400kv on 3 or 4s. Ran the 2 speed transmission it would reach speed of 50mph. Completely uncontrollable at speed but super fun to see people's eyes grown to the size of oranges lol
If the motor is physically timed in the wrong direction swapping it on the ESC doesn't matter that only works on brushless not brushed.

I put one of these in my truck, update 10 Min of driving before it completely melted down and died.
My upgrade was free because the esc in my slash burned up so I put the slash motor in the trx4
3s mode of driving.. and it starts driving like Mater from Cars :-)
