One of the greatest things about Vin Scully is that he knows when to talk, and when to remain quiet.
    Vin will be missed!

You nailed it. It's as if so many are getting paid by the word. I don't care about launch angle-I don't care about Exit Velocity or what anybody had for breakfast, just the basic stats-Homers- BA-RBI'sS-Runs Scored-Stolen Bases-Wins-ERA that means something...

You said it perfectly. I have heard in interviews Vin talk about the importance of remaining quiet. He talked about how he loves to hear the roar of the crown. That's what got him into announcing play by play in the first place......hearing the roar of the crowd.

Red Sox fan here; agreed, listening to him call a game is mesmerizing! The one time I could imagine having NO TV is having Vin Scully describing news, sports, and everything else on the radio. The only way I agree to the no TV rule would be that there is only ONE radio station in the world, and ONLY Vin Scully gets to speak on the one radio station!

Thank you for posting this it was great to hear I have two moments about Vin that I will never forget 1.I can remember the first time I heard Vin Scully's voice it was 3/31/98 and it was on TV but not in the way you might think it was in a video game didn't think much of it other than nice voice (his video game commentary was very basic until his last appearance in 05 it became a little more in-depth) and I said to myself I got to hear this guy more so I ordered the MLB extra innings package and from the first live broadcast I heard I was hooked and every year since I've ordered either MLB.tv or MLB extra innings his descriptive ability is one-of-a-kind (as a legally blind man I felt like I was in the seats at dodger Stadium) i've lost count of how many nights in the last 10 years or so I could put a Dodgers game on my computer turn the monitor off and still feel like I was watching every second of it here in Massachusetts he has made for a lot of late nights for me but I wouldn't have it any other way 2. I take you back to 3/22/14 The Dodgers were in Australia to take on the Arizona Diamondbacks to open the MLB regular-season The game was scheduled to start 4 AM Eastern time approximately three hours before first pitch my aunt passed away in her sleep needless to say I was awake most of that evening speaking with law enforcement officials etc. etc. it was about 3:45 AM Eastern the house was finally emptied of medical examiner law enforcement etc. I watched the dodger broadcast and for that three hours or so I was able to calm down for lack of a better term the level of comfort he gave me was immeasurable

The very first baseball broadcast I ever heard was Vin Scully on the radio. The very first MLB game I attended was at Dodger Stadium. I had no idea that grass could be that green. Vin was a constant companion thru the years on the radio and TV. They say that a picture is worth a thousand words. I contend that one word from Vin was a picture all on it's own.

I went to belmont high school in 2004-2007. I lived across the street from the high school. I used to fall asleep listening to vin even as a little kid going to Union Ave Elem school. I would be excited to talk to a friend of mine about the game. I had a small black radio that used 2 AA batteries. Good times.

Vin Scully is one of a kind, listening to him reading from a phone book would be sheer pleasure. Gonna miss those warm, dulcet words, and his remembrances of the days in Dodger history.
