The Rarest Big Reds - 1982-1988 Honda Big Red Comparison, Evaluation and Analysis

  • In this video we revisit my collection of Honda Big Reds. I go through each yeah and model sold in the US Market, 1982 - 1987, as well as a couple English models. We hit the high points and differences between the 1982/1983 ATC 200E, the 1984 and 1985 ATC 200ES, and then the 1985 - 1988 ATC 250ES.
    Each one of these machines has a story around where it came from and how it ended up in its current spot in my hoard. As I grew up riding a 1984 Big Red, these models have a special place in my Honda heart.
    At the end I touch briefly on an elusive 1988 Big Red that I'm having imported from England and the plans to restore it. Hopefully you enjoy the video as much as I enjoy these Big Reds!

    you probably are the only person to have a 88 big red in the usa right now that is so awsome man if ur at trike fest this year id love to take pictures of it cause we will never seen one in the usa again

      You may be right, but I'm not the only 88 250ES. Binky in Virginia has 2 GORGEOUS 88 250ES Super Reds from Australia in his collection. But mine may be the only 88 Big Red. I'm pretty sure I'm the only one who has an 85 200ES and 84 200E in the US though. I'm definitely the only one who has all three.... AND, my plan is to bring them all to Trike Fest, so you'll be able to get those pictures!

    In 82 I was 14 my uncle had bought the big red. He told what ever I do do not put it in 5th gear and slam, on the breaks. So what do u think I did. Hmmmm. I was on cedar lake in maine. After I did just that I went over on side of the road to the other and happen to find one of the few gullies that fed the lake. Bit into a log .the 3 wheeler bent me over backwards. My knees were at my ears. I had to rip out my mouth from the log and push the 3 wheeler off of me. Lost my theeth . Messed up my knee. My upper jaw was in the shape of the Mc Donald arches. The dentist had to strap my head in and reach in my mouth while climbing on top of the chair and pull my whole upper jaw back into shape. I learn how to ride it correctly after that experience. The only thing that happened to the big red was the foot pegs were bent back.and a small dent in the gas tank I dropped like 25 feet straight down doing a flip. I can do tricks now lol in 83 my dad got one then. I drove up the back of my legs. That sucked .but I got better lol I now have a 84 and I think 82. Now I need to check.

      Because the Big Reds had more air flow to the motor to cool the oil, rather than the Fourtrax having the whole front end in the way which made them overheat. Fans were optional for the Fourtrax because of that issue

    • @The1993mustanglx
      @The1993mustanglx Před 2 lety

      Just did some research about yellowing plastic. I have pasted a paragraph below that I found in my research that makes a lot of sense. I know that we will never know for sure but it seems like a good theory.
      This yellowing happens thanks to a flame retardant called bromine in those old ABS plastics. When exposed to UV light, those bromine molecules can destabilize and leech through to the surface, causing the plastic to turn yellow (or even brown if left long enough). Modern plastics have improved the chemistry so this process doesn’t happen, but those old machines from the 80s aren’t so lucky.
