Hey man I'm not really a big CZcams commenter, but I just wanted to let you know that I really enjoy your content - the production values are great, the recipes are interesting, the extra tidbits of information work well, and I really enjoy the personalities (of both yourself and any/all guests). I honestly really, really enjoy the tasting sections at the end, and if you were to add an extra two/three minutes of discussion/conversation, it most definitely wouldn't be too much.
Thank you - really appreciate this!
So pleased you came out unscathed this time Hernan.
I’m enjoying the creative shots, in the bucket while milling is bonus points.
Thanks for noticing that one.
I know you may not be checking this so much anymore, but I think the sparge arm is ONLY for sparging with hot liquor, not recirculating (Vorlauf). That would explain your clogging issues.
Was waiting for Hernan to come back!
New set looks nice
Thanks.
A beer brewed by monks to drink while fasting?! If I drank an 8.5% ABV on an empty stomach, I'd have a religious experience too!
😆
Thanks !
Double bock is one of my favorites. Cheers
🍻
Nice 👍
This is a great channel, Martin! I'm watching all of your Homebrew Challenge videos in sequense for the moment at just came to this one. Love your short videos with both beer style/recipe explanation and a secondary topic! Great work!
Can I ask why you are not sparging in your system?
Thanks for watching! I’m doing full volume mashes with the water pumped through the mash the whole time so haven’t really see much need to sparge.
@@TheHomebrewChallenge I'll give that a try. I could definitely get used to save that ½-1 hour it takes to sparge areoung 15 liters :)
I can’t stop thinking about monks drinking dopplebock on an empty stomach while fasting, and getting absolutely blitzed.
🥴
Hi, great channel! im a homebrewer form argentina! im looking for the book dark lagers history mystery brewing techniques! any idea were i can get de pdf?
just in time for Starkbierfest!!
What efficiency do you usually get from the Unibrau system? And do you ever do transfers for secondary fermentation? I love the channel btw and always look forward to new videos!
Thank you! Haven’t done a secondary in years now. I get about 68% brewhouse efficiency with the Unibrau system.
The Homebrew Challenge thank for answering this question, I’ve been getting 60-65% I think I need to get more experience with the system and I’m hesitant to Sparge because I value simplicity over efficiency.
Hi, I'm really enjoying your videos. I like the fact that you recipe plus a brew tip or technique per video. If i could put in a request for a technique could you talk a little about water additions if its not already in your video plan? cheers!
Thank you! Yes would like to revisit water additions down the line.
@@TheHomebrewChallenge I see now your Czech Amber lager touches on water profiles. Hadn't popped up in my feed till now
I am VERY curious how you do the next beer...Eisbock!
Me too! Have that sucker in the freezer right now.
For sure! This channel is already great and now we're fast approaching the best beer types (imo)
Hi! I really, really like your videos! Keep up the good work!
Do you have your recipes online somewhere? Like Brewfather og brew.grainfather?
Sorry not yet. Working on something for that.
Must be Dopplebocks. When I brewed my first, I knocked a fitting off my boil kettle and consequently burned my hand pretty bad. Got it brewed and it was know as "Hot Hands Dopplebock"
LOL. Who knew this was such a dangerous style.
I love your channel. I realized, that I haven´t seen you sparging in any of your videos. Do you simply find that not necessary or what is the reason you are skipping this step? I´m wondering, because I have seen a lot of similar brewing systems and they all sparge the lifted mash ton before boiling.
According to Clawhammer there’s no need to sparge. Would be interesting to see if other folks are doing it anyway.
You probably should've gotten a clean flow before attaching the sparge arm. You also could've kept the arm off while mashing in to save the headache of working around it. :)
Agreed. I think we may have blocked some of the holes while pouring in the grain.
I have the same sparge arm and ran into similar issues with clogged holes. I found that letting the grain bed rest makes that sparge arm more effective. I’ve since switched to a vorlauf arm for my recirc and use the sparge arm exclusively for sparging.
I would have added melanoidin malt here as well...
i was thinking of rigging up a sparge arm like that, didnt look too promising, have you had any luck with it?
I’ve not tried it since my first effort. Would be interested to hear how you get on with it.
First Comment!
Love these videos, keep up the great work!
Thanks! 🍻
Hey great videos! As a German and reading the BJCP Guidelines I would write it "Doppelbock" not Dopplebock. I thinks that's an American letter-swap, or is it actually written Dopplebock in the US? ;)
Prost!
Prost! Looks like I misspelled it in the description.
Leave the spargearm and get yourself a speidel
So, what's the conclusion on the sparge arm? Useless?
I’d like to try it again with a smaller grist. Didn’t work so well with this beer.
@@TheHomebrewChallenge Do you have reason to believe that you have a temperature problem that needs solving? I am skeptical that you will find it makes a difference, and it seems like an additional piece of gear that will add to cleaning challenges. Plus, I really enjoy those shots of the liquid flowing from the tube, spiraling back into the mash. So relaxing.
