I once had a real eye opener, when I read from someone, that if you skip cleaning for a week, maybe because you're sick or whatever, it won't take you double the time to e.g. wash the floors....but if you skip tidying up, it really will take you double the time, because there is double the stuff that lies around. And I would like a session 🙂

From childhood I was always taught to clear away my toys . I still have the habit of keeping boxes and putting things back into them, cleaned . It helps when you are selling them on e bay or similar too. Drill /sander/ screwdriver/ drill bits/ cleaning , charging and putting them in the boxes ready for next use saves a lot of time.

This is so true. I've boiled everything down to the 3 most important tasks. Dishes, Laundry, and Tidying up. These are the tasks that will get worse and worse if we let them go. So if I'm having a bad day or just a really busy day, I still try to do those 3 things. Or if I've really let things go, it gives me a place to start. I know that I need to start with dishes. Then work on laundry, and finally, go room by room tidying up and putting things away. It is amazing the difference this has made in my house. I no longer have to think about what to do when the house is a mess because I know exactly what to do and where to start. And once I'm caught up on these three things, it makes the deep cleaning so much easier anyways.

Kind of used that method for my preschool and prekindergarten students. One child's job was to go around with a clock face to all 3 rooms and gave everyone a 5 minute warning to get ready to clean up & shift gears (a very desirable job). When the piano,, or the pick-up song was sung, the children knew they had about 10 minutes to pick everything up and put things away. Yes, even 3 yr. olds can pick Up and clean in less than 10 minutes. Using a broom and dustpan became a very coveted job! This was a habit most parents appreciated! Breaking up jobs helps even me.

I'm 67 and thinking back to all those years ago when my mom was widowed when I was 10. I have 2 younger sisters. Before dinner and for about 5 minutes, my mom would have us scurry around the downstairs part of the house that had carpet or rugs and pick up little bits of stuff- like dust bunnies, grass, etc. In lieu of vacuuming. It was kind of a game. To this day, I pick up little bits of stuff off our carpet anytime I see something instead of waiting until vacuum day. I also have a little hand held vacuum for things like dirt spills from the plants, etc. I love that thing! So true that keeping up with small stuff in the moment makes a massive difference!

What really helped me with pupa was the rule "Touch everything only once.". If we come home, take off our jacket and set it on the sofa, then later we have to move it so someone can sit down, then we move it again to finally put it away. How much easier is it to just put the jacket in the closet when you first take it off?

One of the first 💡 moments of flylady for me was considering the time dreading a job...that made it seem worse and unattainable. i.e. spring cleaning when you're constantly doing things in a rotation your not looking at a 12 hour cleaning marathon any longer. Truly the dread and procrastination is worse that the job itself. lol Routines and consistency ❤️ Thanks for all the lessons you continue to teach us. 😍🌞💐

It’s so nice to come home to a tidied house, especially that first view (for me, the living room - no entry hall). Fold sofa throws, clear flat surfaces of clutter, etc. And the way you’ve got your scarf with a cowl-neck!! 🤯 How adorable is that?! 🧣

My mom was a kindergarten teacher for most of her working life. She used to have a little song that she'd sing when it was PUPA / put things away time: (Start by singing the first word for a long time to get all the kids' attention) "It's time to clean up, to end our free play, to pick up our toys, and put them away!" It was usually a game to see who could put all the toys away before she could finish singing lol.

Ha ha so true. Putting things away straight away is my problem there is noone else to blame but myself. Thank goodness for flylady I can't go to bed without doing dishes and as I don't have a dishwasher I put everything away too. At least first thing in the morning I start with a clean slate and do not have to unload a dishwasher. I also always make beds first thing after a shower but I am still working on not being a clutter bug. I find the only time flylady system doesn't work is if I don't do my routines or don't regularly tidy up after myself. It is so much easier to wash the dishes straight away than to leave the dinner dishes until just before bedtime. It 7. 40pm in Cyprus right now so I will get off my bahookie and wash the dishes. I can then relax. Thank you so much for sharing your encouraging videos xxxxx Margaret

I prefer to do the weekly blessing on Friday, because I can unplug from work an hour earlier. I clean my home office first, then close that door. Then it’s the rest of the house, which takes 45 minutes, and I’m free for the weekend 😊

I like the Fly Lady way of considering the weekly clean as a ‘blessing’ as it puts me a grateful, rather than a resentful, mindset. I try and do it on Friday after work so I have a tidy place for the weekend. My 2 teenagers are doing more than they were which is helping. Where I struggle though is that to get everything done some days, it’s my ‘me time’ that goes so I miss my exercising, my music playing etc which leads to me feeling a bit miserable!

  • @juliab628

It only took me until age 40 to realize that if I just put things away when I was finished with them, the house wouldn't be messy. I would tell the kids to take stuff to their rooms, but I never was consistent with it. And then I myself, left my own stuff out back then. These days, with our kids about the age as Diane's, I have finally developed this habit of putting things away the 1st time. Ironically, my husband typically did this as a natural habit and still does!!! He is just neat that way :)

Yes, please, Diane, I would love so much to have a session with you! I have so many questions about details of the Fly Lady System. I’m still adjusting to it because it’s so different from what I’ve been doing all my life! 😓
To answer your question, no, I don’t clean all weekend, in fact, I don’t clean at all during the weekend because I’m retired and can do everything during the week. Lucky me! 😊But when I was working, yes, I would clean during the weekend, do groceries and run errands. The Friday nights and the Saturdays were very busy, but I always took time to relax on Sundays! My heart goes out to all those busy women who have to juggle careers and family, and who too often end up not having time for themselves!😞 Thanks for another great video! Have a good day, Diane! 😍❣

Great series! I began listening with evening routine (3/22) while I was doing zone cleaning in my bedroom and used this one as the second half of my "timer.` As a 2 decade flybaby, I began using the Flylady system as a springboard of what works for me. It's very helpful to listen to you, Diane, as you guide others to flex into their situations. When I began flying, we had 3 children at home, a 5 bed/3 bath house, one dog and 2/3 cats. Now my Sweetie and I have downsized, my children are adults who use FlyLady methods in their homes, and we live with a different and much fluffier (more dusting potential) dog and one mature cat. All that, and still benefit from listening to you. Thanks Diane!

One thing I've decided is that I need to add vacuuming my hard floors before bed every night. This saved me starting the next day cleaning up from the day before.

Yes, please, Diane! I would love to be considered for a session with you. I am working on Fly Lady and trying to make it work for me. Struggling at the moment as I have become caregiver to my elderly mother.

Yes, please! I don't spend the weekend cleaning. I've always been pretty good about maintaining a tidy and clean home once I had my own place. But I'm so drained and overwhelmed most weeks, that I can't even get to zone cleaning - I can barely maintain the daily missions on a consistent basis. I've been struggling with my morning and evening routines and everything in between (mostly having the disciple to do them - will be practicing TOTH/BOTH this week), but at least I don't spend the weekends cleaning.

Yes, please 💕! Even though this pupa might really be my core problem. I always need to tidy before cleaning and this always extends the time of actually cleaning. My husbamd asks me what I do all day long, when I am home, and I think its those tiny steps that add up…😫🤔!

Yes, I'd love to win this month's giveaway. Also, you asked that we say what we need...I still have problems simplifying the FlyLady system. I get most of it but never know what to do when. It is difficult for me to follow and I don't know why. My house is relatively clean so I know it's helping me but I feel anxious when I try to figure out her method.
