it cracks me up that she seriously thought the best way to overcome her trauma was by doing the thing that traumatized her
While there IS exposure therapy (basically face your fear and learn as much as you can about it until it isnt an obsticle for you anymore) you dont just dive straight into the thing that traumatized you! Its a slow build-up until you can face the actual thing. "Friends" like that never cease to amaze me.

This reminds me of the story of a hiker who got lost in a deep forest and was in serious danger of losing their life. They found some power lines and set the wooden pole on fire. That knocked out the power, and a few hours later, a power crew showed up.
Well, that was pretty smart of the hiker to do something like that.

hunter is literally the worst friend. had an affair with her husband, let her drink herself through all her grief following her husband's death, asked her to climb knowing this girl wasn't near close to over it, didn't plan any of it out to make sure it was safe or ease her into it again, then constantly pressured her and joked about shaking the ladder to scare her
Kind of like that one friend in "The Descent" when that one friend talked the other girl who was in that car crash and lost her husband/daughter. Year later - Hey, lets go cave exploring and not tell anyone which cave we are going to or some dumb nonsense. At least there were NO cave people chasing these girls around and trying to kill/eat them.

I think conquering fear of heights would be cathartic. The issue is choosing an unmaintained tower, lacking training for the climb you intend to do, and not telling a friend or family member where you are and when you'll be back.

I watched the most disturbing films yet this is the one that made me pause every now and then to reassure myself that I am safe. Damn.
I'd pre-pack 3 cans of Bush's Baked beans. If stuck, eat them all at once. Muster up the power for 3 hours or so, then jump. About 1/2 way down I'd tear violent ass. The force of my flatulence would work as propellant slowing my fall enough such that when i reach the ground I'd touch down gracefully. Then I would steal the girl's car, buy several more cans of baked beans, which I could then use to propel myself back up to the top of the tower so I could live happily ever after with either one, or both of those QTs. THE END.

Hunter was the true mega-villain in this movie. She forces Becky, who is still traumatized over the loss of her husband, to climb this 2,000 ft. tall, decaying, abandoned radio tower, IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FUCKING DESERT NO LESS, without any sort of preparation beforehand. Then she shakes the ladder to scare Becky, and then, BIG SURPRISE! The ladder falls away into the distance. Realizing that she had just fucked everything up, Hunter admits to HAVING AN AFFAIR with Becky's husband before he died, and she gets what is coming to her.
Moral of the story: never have a friend like Hunter.
But hunter was still an amazing friend regardless of her shortcomings

The only time she was reasonable and a good friend was when she was dead.
And that was a warped perception of her made by a grieving becky who was hallucinating after the trauma of watching her friend get eaten, so all of her actions were pretty much how she viewed her friend - when in actuality - she sucked. Entire movie until she was dead, she sucked.
I think the most heartbreaking and horrible part of the movie was when it was revealed that she had a tattoo to commemorate her friends husband and what 'could have been'.
So even if her husband had survived, and none of the movie ever happened she probably would have stolen becky's husband from her at some stage.
What made it worse is that hunter caused becky to lose touch with her dad, the only person in the world who cared about her because she was just so selfish.

Hunter didn’t deserve to die because she didn’t do anything wrong that would deserve a death sentence. Also got teaches us that killing is wrong, even if someone kills, you shouldn’t kill. That’s why I’m not a big fan of the death penalty. I’ll admit, Hunter was one of the worst “friends” anyone can ever have. But still doesn’t deserve death.

Your suggestion at 23:33 reminded me of something my grandparents told me. They used to live in Africa and they said the locals could nimbly climb the coconut palms using just a rope and their feet wound tightly around the tree as they moved. But of course a palm's trunk is rugged, which adds traction, and its width is much smaller than this pole so it's way easier to climb than this. This would be a really desperate last resource thing to attempt.

To reach the bag after the ladder fell they could’ve just made their rope a bit longer buy tying it closer to the edge couldve also clip it instead of a knot 3. To avoid falling from the beginning they could’ve just did one circle around the top pole to have protecting in this way there’s no way one can drag another down like the part where hunter grab the pole to save betty wich is the fakest shit I’ve seen lol 4. They could have all avoid this whole situation just by telling someone close where and when they were headed , also a single message to someone close would’ve been better than hunter instagrams post ..5. That girl, "Hunter" is one brave chick in this movie. Although I would have tried what she did when she got the bag a lot sooner. If I'm completely honest, I would have never gone there in the first place.
How to beat Fall:
1: Don't climb it
2: check it out before you climb it.
3: Tell someone where you are going so the know where to start looking if you go missing.
4:Have a third person to stay on the ground just incase anything goes wrong.

tie the rope around you and then swing it around the pole and slowly go down, like when a electrical person goes up, they tie a rope,something around them . Lumberjacks used to be able to go up and down, it may be risky but if you are stuck up there, do you really care about risk, hell, climbing the tower is risky
5. Always check the structure first before climbing

Exactly. I mean if you want your friend to recover and face her fears and trauma why would you make her climb 2000 feet unsafe old tower within a short time of her husband's death. Plus hunter knew how much alcohol Becky was drinking and she didn't have the physical strength to climb properly.
The type to talk her friends into spending the weekend at an abandoned summer camp, where brutal unsolved mass murders occur every 2-3 years.

I once had a climbing accident (just indoor climbing) in which i fell 25 meters down on a soft matress and badly injured my shoulder. I completely recovered. I also survived a horror fall in an adventure park in which my zipline broke and i again fell down 14 meters (luckily into a river which only left me some scratches). I did develop vertigo since then and when i saw this film, it was a true horrorfilm for me. I felt nauseous and was sweating all the time. Still i can't resist watching films on this subject because it intrigues me and i want to spread awareness on this hobby for everyone to be prepared and have safety checks so they can enjoy this legit beautiful hobby and be safe.

It seems the best way to beat it is to NOT have a friend like Hunter, who knows you got traumatized during climbing so she suggests you climb something FAR more dangerous in order to get over it.
It's like being traumatized of the water thanks to an incident in a pool, so your best friend suggests you go swim in the ocean.
@@monokumasussy9685 That's true. I'm pretty sure there is a type of therapy called small exposure therapy or something and it's pretty self explanatory from the title itself. Basically, if you're afraid of something you look at your fears for a bit then do it again and basically after doing it for a while you get over all the trauma and fear.
A better anology is if your best friend suggest you go white water rafting.

So logically there is no need to be feared of water as of it covers you from all 360°

Some really good ideas in this video. Of course, the most simple preventative measure would have been for Becky to tell Hunter that she would not be climbing especially once they were standing at the base of the tower.
All the points you said are incredible.
Once they got the drone charged, just attach the phone to it and safely lower it to the ground for signal. You can even fly it back up to see that the message sent.

She only had one phone and it was used to fly the drone.
I can only assume that a sequel would be about a different best friend taking her somewhere even more dangerous and remote to get over Hunter's death.
Its then revealed that this 3rd friend was also sleeping with her husband.

The biggest oversight is them being "too high" for service. Cell signals extend well above 5000 feet and being on the top of a big metal tower would probably be literally one of the best places for cell signal.
No, cellular reception is a huge issue even in modest highrises unless they have internal repeaters, most cell towers are facing flat or downward
@JoachimLarsen303 brother, I fly in helicopters for a living. Cell reception is great up to about four thousand feet. Signal is bad in high rises because you're in a Faraday cage of metal and concrete

The filmmakers had considered green screen or digital sets, but ultimately opted for the real thing. They decided to build the upper portion of the tower on top of a mountain so that the actors would really appear to be thousands of feet in the air, even though in real life they were never more than a 100 feet (30 meters) off the ground.
Still makes me scared however.
The thing is, a 30 meter fall is still easily fatal. Even a 10 meters fall can easily be fatal

There are so many ways to avoid the problems and have solutions to these types of movies that they would not happen or become much shorter movies. But they just make the characters really stupid for it to work. That’s why i barely even watch their recaps.

Yes but in reality I don’t even think the drone can cover that height when there’s a loss of signal. What is keeping it controlled, Bluetooth? Maybe if it has an option that goes down without needing to be controlled.
This is the easiest subject ever. There were numerous indications, on the way up, that the tower was in disrepair. Had shit falling off and rungs on the ladder so rusted that they broke when weight was put on them. They ignored warning signs all the way up the tower. You survive this by heeding the warning signs.

The writer had great idea of getting stranded on tower but failed on logic. You could probably write more believable story if you buy beer to real life climbers and ask them what is the most possible way to get stuck on cliff.

Well done!! Very good footage and story telling. I was freaking out about the heights and uncomfortable the whole time.
I always laugh whenever supposedly experienced climbers in movies like this don't even take BASIC precautions. Like I get not being prepared for a freak accident, the lack of food is *kind of* excusable, and in Urban Exploring you kind of get used to writing off some structural issues, but the fact they A) Didn't scout the location (UrbEx 101, because there's rarely an abandoned place you can just walk into with no foreknowledge or effort) and B) Didn't check the forecast (Even I know to do that for a climb and I've only been like twice) is beyond insane.
As an Arizona Tower Climber they forgot to include the fact that our towers can reach 130°-140°. Their hands would've been rotisserie climbing that tower.
Not to mention there is no wind resistance meaning the wind could easily push you off the tower. Would've been great to see those elements.

How does anyone die doing these tower climbs "officially?" I'd have thought the safety equipment would be fool-proof.
As a radio tower worker, those connection points that hold the ladders in place are rated for incredible amounts of weight and are supposed to connect every ladder assembly to a secure point. They could have connected the carabiner to each one, descended a short distance each time, and eventually make it to the platform below. They pass two of them every time they go up and down and it just makes me mad that it was completely ignored.
This is the feeling any expert of any field watching movies where plot needs to happen
people ignore a lot of things when they are panicked
But what if the carabiners are too thick to fit through the bolt holes?
Those connection points are typically not much more than a flat piece of steel welded to the tower with a hole at the end. If you can´t fit the carabiner through the hole, you can´t attach it. In 5:03 and 5:46 you can see what i mean.
You're ignoring the most important thing. They didn't know this and most people don't know this either.
In that case, perhaps they could just use the rope and tie knots instead of use carabiners. It would be tedious, but if they are able to tie the knots, it might work. @@denzzlinga
There is something called a survivor kit that contains a compact signaling unit, emergncy batteries and several other things. This kit is a must for such expeditions.

Don’t keep climbing an old radio tower if screws are coming off no matter how much your friend begs you to, because they end up dead anyway ❤️

But when the rung on the ladder on the way up there broke, think I would've definitely tapped out. And lmao the fact they're tied together would make the one at the bottom WAY cautious about stopping
Like it's very clearly not safe. The thing is rusted out and shaky. AND SHE WAS SHAKING AND JUMPING AROUND while her friend is trying to just stay calm. So stupid.
Don’t climb the tower AT ALL and only one of them dies
Especially when your husband already fell to his death while rock climbing. How do you go from losing a loved one to climbing to go climbing an even more dangerous old radio tower with steps falling off and not even tell anyone you know that you're going climbing? Its climbing 101 to tell someone you're going climbing in case you get stuck or hurt. Also 7:05 attaching the hooks to ladder would've meant they fall to their death when the ladder broke that wouldve been logical to hook to the ladder but in this case the guy from the video doesent make sense, this movie doesent make sense, nothing makes any sense
To be honest the basic preparation is to have a third person on the ground and/or tell someone where they go and if they are not heard up to x-time send help.
Everything after that is just correcting their mistakes.
Unless the ladder smushed your friend at the bottom.

As a person who has fear of heights to a pointe where I can't even go on a roof top of a house, I see this as an absolute win!!
Honestly, their first mistake was attempting the climb at all. If you are traumatized by something, then yes it can be helpful to expose yourself to your fears. But it should be done in a professional setting and not with a friend on a radio tower in the desert. Like go climb in an indoor hall, if you really want to get back on track, but dont start with something absolutely hardcore.

But I mainly blame it on Hunter tho. Like why would even suggest such an idea to an emotionally and physically unfit woman who's YOUR friend to do such a task.
My number one recommendation: dump Hunter in the beginning and get help at a VR clinic where she could climb a digital representation of the radio tower.

5:49 She must be one of the strongest human beings on the planet. With one hand (that's not even fully wrapped around the pole), she's able to support the full weight of her falling friend. I don't understand why she didn't just grab her friend and fly away to safety. She's clearly a superhuman.
The amount of momentum that would have made is literally incredible you would need to be stronger than Eddie hall or just about as strong as him to do it.

Adrenaline most certainly does increase the strength/active power of your muscles BUT she also very likely would’ve injured herself in the process/strained/sprained her forearm or shoulder bc of the excessive force

I honestly really like Hunter as a character. Not like I think that she's a good person or anything- I think she's well-written. She's been a bad friend through and through to Becky: having an affair with her significant other, abandoning her in her time of need, etc. and she seems to understand that, but now that she understands that she wants to make a misguided attempt to help her through this tower climb. Like, imagine doing that to try and help, only to realize how much worse you made everything. She was probably overcome by guilt through that whole situation, and that was most likely part of her reason to risk her life getting the bag in the first place. She knew that she'd done nothing but ruin her friend's life up until this point, and in her head she wanted to risk her life to make it up to her somehow.
Her death is also really poetic, in the sense that it directly helped Becky to survive and get out of the situation- her body was dropped with the phone and used to call for help, so that even after death she was there for Becky. Even if she wasn't a good friend, she tried her best to redeem herself, and dying trying to do so is honestly a really good way to handle her character.

I was watching this film on the inflight entertainment and I was so anxious by it, I switched off the movie after 2/3 of its runrime. But i was thinking about how the film may end until I flew back. My theorie was, that when the girls removed the bulb for charging the drone battery, somewhere an alarm would have triggered as the red light on top is a crucial air traffic sign. I didnt knew the movie had an fantastic element...
this movie, although lacks in logic, has got to be the most anxiety inducing scenes ever. I'm scared of heights and they really look like they were so high up.
It's not the heights that makes me nervous, its the ground coming towards me faster and faster, that really freaks me out.

I only watched the movie recently because I thought the idea is kinda dumb at the first place. But turned out a really good movie (for me), although the more I think the more surviving solutions I would came up.

This was seriously one of the best "horror" films i have seen in ages. I felt the anxiety all the time, no cheap jump scares, just feeling the horror of heights.

I recommend 127 Hours. It's a movie in a similar vain. It's also based on real life events.
The obvious solutions sitting in front of them kinda killed it for me. Anyone with climbing experience would never have used such a ridiculous setup and B: would have use the method the video suggested using friction to descend the tower with ease.

Fun fact, even in places that have no service calling 911 will still work since the phone will try every possible network that exists from every service provider and not just the network that the phone uses, however there is no caller ID and the police can’t call you back therefore when you do it you must provide every possible detail about where you are

But how will it connect to any network at all in the first place. They are in the desert, stranded on top of old tower which is over 2000ft tall. I don't think cell phone reception will be available at that height.

Thats what i was thinking!! I’m like they must not be smart in this dept. cause even w/out a signal I think this is precisely why it’s an option! Emergencies don’t always have service & if you relied on service for an emergency you’re effed either way. So at least the service providers got one thing right.

I noticed a plot hole almost immediately. They said there was a light at the top of the tower, which means someone would have to climb it every so often to change the lightbulb which means the tower wouldn’t be so rusty and falling apart due to safety
That's kinda true, but working in some fields you might be sad to find out how often these things get forgotten or put off. Also I was thinking helicopter all day. And that's an easy way to change that light in seconds. Way more fun too.
Also those lights can last a very long time, very potentially abandoned and just left to burn out.

@@antwaunkent5654 yeah but helicopters are expensive, not that paying a worker to climb up is cheap but probably saves a little. Besides pretty sure no company does repairs like that with a helicopter, on radio towers at least. I might've seen a video of a helicopter being used in power lines, but I think it was just to drop them off n pick them up. Not sure tbh I forget, could just be a false memory. And what's the point of repairing the light if it's too dangerous to even climb up, they would be more worried about fixing the structural integrity first. But it's a movie so oh well

My old job was to climb those things and change light and service equipment on towers. It’s beautiful up there but also scary as hell. ALWAYS use your carabiners on multiple points and let someone know your location.

I love heights, it’s the feeling of falling that scares me. Heights are a weird mix for me but as iv been told “if your gunna do stupid dangerous shit, be smart about it”
@@lonekie so I’ll clarify how this whole thing worked. We’d usually have like 2 to 4 guys. 1 man climbs (it’s rare that you ever have to go up these things) everyone else are ground men. We have a long ass rope attached to a tool bag to hoist up after you reach the top. The ladders actually have cages around them to keep you safe and your harness has 2 carabiners that you constantly move as you climb so it’s hard to fall. Also the light is never high and unreachable. It’s designed so you can safely work on it. Most of my days were spent building and climbing 🧗♀️ those tall electrical transmission towers you see coming off of power plants. They are usually around 200 foot tall. At first it’s pretty scary but once you sit back and take in the view it’s pretty cool. I’m older now and like being at home with my family so I run heavy equipment these days. To me that’s way more fun. I play with life sized tonka toys.
I think I've fallen in love with this film. It really towers above the rest.

If the light on top works, how did they change the bulb and not notice how bad the tower was? They would have either demolished it or repaired it to safe climbing standards.
I saw a trailer for this on CZcams and I was terrified, one of my worst fears is being high up for a long time, the prospect of falling is terrifying for me but at least when it’s brief the adrenaline and jelly legs feel nice. BUT BEING TRAPPED ON A BREAKING, THIN RADIO TOWER AT PLANE HIGHT! That fear is always the same no matter whether your their or not

So I'm not the only one. My heart was racing during the video and when it was over, I noticed my feet were sweaty. If some nearby factory released poisonous gas into the air and the only way to escape it was to climb that tower, I don't think I'd make it more than 50 feet.

Okay. So, hear me out…
Wrap the rope around the tower as many times as you can for a friction lock and try to slide down as gently as possible to the satellite dishes then repeat the process until you can reach the lower portion(s) of the remaining bits of ladder and/or the tower beam’s crossbars.
Scary? Yes.
But would probably be your fastest and safest course of action in this situation.
Probably can use the leverage to help with the descent as well. Wrapping some clothing around your hands for extra padding as well and this might work.

Just get an iPhone 14 or later and use the emergency satellite SOS feature

She could have easily suggested a quick trip to a climbing gym. But nooo. Homewrecker had to go to the rusted out tower, after almost getting them killed because she was vlogging whole driving.
Instead of throwing the phone down, they could have mounted it on the Drone (with rope, shoelaces or clothes) and flown it down to get a cell signal. The Drone definitely has the range to get a sellsignal. In addition (as stated in the video), I would have send out as many messages as possible.

It seems the drone part never took place? Hunter fell together with the bag onto the dish. So the charging didn't happen either and once Becky reached the drone its battery was dead.
Or was the bag still attached to the rope and Becky retrieved it, charged it and crashed it into the truck?

You don't even NEED a signal to call 911. It's because they use satellites or something special.

Hunter couldve just strapped her phone to the drone and flew it on to the bottom of the tower for the signal then waited for help , that way both of them woulve been saved.

Makes sense but the bag fell...the bag had the drone in it and the only way hunter got the bag back was by risking her life....only to die later. Only Becky could have tried that since she got the bag

If you are referring to when she was on the dish and had just grabbed the bag, she didnt have her cell. It was on the ground already in her other shoe. At no point did they have a charged cell and the drone at the same time after the ladder broke away. Becky pulled the bag up and flew the drone down where the truck hit it. But at that time her cell had no charge. She had to climb to top to charge it. By which time the drone was on the ground.

My "best friend" dragged me to ride the most extreme roller coaster in Six Flags when I was in middle school. I got a fear of heights because of that. I was afraid of even simple rides like a caterpillar ride. I was even afraid to even take more than 3 steps on a ladder. It took me years to recover. I'm not afraid of heights anymore but I'm not going to ride a roller coaster ever again. I might get scared of heights again, it might even make it worse.
