This is Samoa's Sacred National Anthem. It is sung in any church, village, family, or any special occasion. The words by a London Missionary, James E. Newell, depict the true love of Samoans who treasure their islands in their hearts, wherever they reside in this world. The beautiful tune was composed by a prolific composer of Samoan church and traditional music, Mata'utia Pene Solomona.(b.1890s - d.1970s). I'm blessed to witness him writing music, and directing choirs, and brass bands (1960s). He was also a great pianist.
I have never heard a Samoan Hymn sung in such a beautiful way. All the parts were blended so well together and the voices in this little clip showed so much. So many different harmonies but it came out so well. I love whenever Polynesian culture is shared to people outside the bloodlines. It really shows the growing of our influence and who we are. Plus, you sang Lo Ta Nu'u and Manu O Le Vaveao, iconic songs sung way back when.

May the words and tune of Lota Nu'u ( our first National Hymn composed by LMS Missionaries) and Manu ole Vaveao ( An old folk song describing Samoa's people) Beautiful close harmony!
I’ve just come across these clips on CZcams and am dumbfoundedly stunned; never thought existed but they have for sometime really. Am so proud these groups performed beyond my expectations. Great efforts though!
They did the song absolute justice. Now imagine this and stack it like quadruple times inside a huge auditorium with perfect reverb. That was the sound I heard every week at my high school as we had to sing it every weekly school assembly. #samoanahighschool #lotanuu
