      Took me 3-4 days to teach my horse, I taught her to lower her head and when tap on her hind end to bring her feet up, I had to hold her from leg to help her out and she ended up laying down

      Hi There, so far I've never had a horse that didn't want to get up easily. As far as your horse doing this at incorrect/inconvenient times, If your cue is clear and obvious and different from what your other cues are then you shouldn't have problems with it. The only thing that could happen is if he starts to see the lie down as a way to get out of work. If he tries to lie down when you don't want him to you can get him up quickly and do some work with him. Also do this at the beginning of the training and not at the end otherwise he may think when he lies down he will get a rest or get out of work. I hope this helps!

    • @HorsePerfect
      @HorsePerfect  Před 3 měsíci

      In theory yes but horses that lie down tend to get up in a flash if something scares them or they feel threatened so it could turn into a dangerous situation quick. The best idea would be to use a high ramp or mounting block that allows a person to get on a calm standing horse with little effort.

      @veroniqueviaudFaspasie_1957 Před 11 měsíci

      I don't understand why it would be useful to know how to make one horse sit down like a dog !
      The only times I saw horses sit down was when they were living a very stressed, scary moment ! One so kind thoroughbred was having difficulties to breathe, a terrific suffocation crisis, after a rider tacked her too tight. She was sitting down on the barn 's floor. With rolling eyes in pain and panic.
      I' m not wanting to be impolite but to me, this position is not natural. Only making your horse who is your partner, looking like a clown in a circus. I dislike that a lot.
      I saw a woman who made her horse sit down due to her too strong, severe, dressage. This horse looked poor and stressed. 😢🐴👎🏻

    • @HorsePerfect
      @HorsePerfect  Před 2 lety +4

      Hi Natasha, maybe so… a lot of what we ask horses to do is unnatural for them and this is a pretty unnatural way to get them to lie down. Honestly I wish I had filmed a different horse because she really didn’t want to lie down and most horses are much easier so it didn’t take as long/look as cruel. In the end though you can see how much faster she did it than the first time so I think because they learn it in 3-4 times with the rope it’s not too cruel as they move on quite quickly.

    The horse tells you no. If we force them, even if they disagree, they will always look forward to the end of the training. Look forward to that the man leaves. This is not a happy horse. It's a horse he's used to not being listened to.

    • @HorsePerfect
      @HorsePerfect  Před 2 lety +3

      Ok well if the horse lies down on a trail ride he’s usually trying to get out of work and be lazy. Sometimes though he’s actually trying to roll in some sand that he found and he just wants to enjoy it.
      Before a horse lies down they usually hit the ground with their front legs and put their nose down to smell the ground.
      So as soon as you start to see those signs quickly ask your horse to walk in a circle or back up or anything that will distract him from wanting to lie down. Keep doing that every time and soon he won’t want to lie down any more.
