  • Alex Payne, James Haskell and Mike Tindall discuss those tweets by Sam Burgess and James reveals he's been texting Sam. The chaps talk big nights out with the Barbarians, Alex Dormbrandt's form, relegation from the Premiership and big bodies. Plus Hask shows his terrible Harry Potter knowledge.

    Guys I just want to say that this is genuinely a fantastic podcast/youtube show! (subscribed to both)
    The conversation regarding the sport is intelligent, insightful and really well communicated.
    But it is the chemistry between the panel that really makes this format work!
    Extremely funny and time just flies watching it which always means it's great. Keep it up!

    The Harry Potter quiz was excellent, if for nothing else but to wind Hask up and Mike definitely had a lot of Harry facts....lol

I like that they discuss hot topics in rugby right now but was surprised they didn't preview this weekend's Champions Cup matches a little. Care has done great things but had an awful game against Japan and a terrible 6 nations this year. Eddie was right to drop him for the last game, I think his ability as a super-sub will serve well up to the World Cup but not sure if his ability off the bench is what we need in a 2nd choice scrum half when he plays awfully as a starter - that is a huge risk if Youngs gets injured.

    Haskell said everybody worked hard and contributed to the 2015 world cup from the coach to the kit man . Well the kit man sure did contribute to the poor performance by loosing £100,000 of the players money investing in a shell company .
    According to the forensic expert Gordon Bowden a lot of this fraudulent activity go's on within rugby .
    Haskell reminds me of Woody Allan in regards to their public persona being how they actually are in real life .

  • @daikayll1897
    @daikayll1897 Před 5 lety

    Deception in rugby is born from individual endeavour. Endeavour, influenced by opportunity that arrives when players get tired. Defences are more structured but, if a player deceives and makes a break, he'll be chastised for getting isolated and fatigue is solved now by so many subs being allowed. No subs James "Back in the Day" ! You'd of had to ruck for longer. Maul for longer. Scrummage faster ! And last 80 minutes. Oh, and still tackle your man then go to work on Monday.

    Ring-fencing the Premiership will kill the competition in England. Already, a number of Championship clubs are ineligible for the Premiership and are happy to stay in the championship, but others aspire to be the next Exeter, Bristol, etc. As Tindal said, this is the English way and we are better for it.

    • @jonnybaynham1689
      @jonnybaynham1689 Před 5 lety

      Key for me is prioritisation, club or international sport. Ring-fencing will harm club rugby as a spectacle, and I do agree it stops clubs that have the aspiration and resources to become the next great club. But as New Zealand or Irish rugby's format of their leagues allow them to rest players or run international bootcamps without a laundry list of injuries, the ring-fencing could allow clubs to collaborate better with the RFU and rest players on non-priority games. That could be outrageous to many supporters, but possibly allow players to be less injured, more rested, and even have better agreements with the RFU.
      It's not going to be a clean solution either way, something is going to be harmed whether they ring-fence or don't - whether it's league competitiveness or aspirations or whether it is player burnout or weakened international teams. Personally, because International rugby is still the far bigger draw for average punters, I would go with the ring-fencing option and hopefully start building better collaboration with the RFU.

    • @jonnybaynham1689
      @jonnybaynham1689 Před 5 lety

      @@daikayll1897 I see Liam's point about genetics but it does sound a bit superior, I'd probably call it the talent that is underestimated or under-utilised. Apart from the history of our u20s team look at the Olympics, an extensive collection of competitive team and individual events - Great Britain has a huge presence for such a small collection of nations, second to USA and ahead of China in 2016. Many/most of that representation is England, with a smattering of world class guys/gals from Wales, Scotland, and NI. You've also got incredible English athletes in a number of world sports - Joshua,, Hamilton, Froome etc. so there is a lot of talent about. System-wise we just don't seem to transfer the talent into the elite performance as well as it should be done, which I think Ireland and New Zealand have on point. Politics and management harm our team. Once we can work out the system and prioritise the international team I think the team should be very very strong.

    • @DM-rp9ik
      @DM-rp9ik Před 5 lety

      @@Madyoke Most of the England Team have Poly, Sa, NZ or African heritage. If not originally from those countrys. I could pick a near starting English team made up of the above. Playing numbers don't matter as much as people make them out to a St Michaels old boys team would probably beat a lot of sides around Europe with the likes of Ryan, Leavey, Penny and so on. Its basically a rugby academy for 6 years were players are given all the information they need to become professionals. You could put them up against a 100 pub teams and you would get the same outcome. On a side note a country that produces, BOD, the world player of the year Johnny Sexton, Connor Murray , and Ferlong are hardly at a genetic disadvantage.

    • @DM-rp9ik
      @DM-rp9ik Před 5 lety

      @UCTs0Hy9fVMVeG5CzaMtkE6g That systems been there for nearly 20 years and we have been brutal at times during the last 20 as well people sweep that under the rugg because we are winning atm. The biggest difference I can see is what happening in Leinster and the schools in the Leinster senior cup. They are now basically 6 year rugby academics. Which produce high quality players a lot faster then they did 10 years ago. Munster and Ulster are pretty much in the same place they have always been since 2006. Leinster on the other hand have 30 + top end players with 4 or 5 in the other provinces that couldn't break into the starting 15 or weren't happy with their game time. Madigan, Carbury, Cooney, Moore Conway, J Murphy Byrne and Moore are some that come to mind I'm sure there's more lower profile player I can't remember. But that's the major difference Leinster 10 years ago had maybe 12 or 13 top level players but the quality went off a cliff after that. The next player down would be playing AIL or amature rugby most of the year.

    Always amusing listening to the English take on the Premiership. One club gets demoted every season and the majority of the time you'll know which club it is 5 games into the season. The narrative that fear of relegation holds back expansive play in England (Tindalls assertion) is ridiculous. Relegation is not on the radar for the majority of clubs in England and it never will be. They'd also have you believe teams in Super Rugby or the Pro 14 just play for the laugh. They chuck it around because there's nothing at stake. Seriously? Leinster could play in the Premiership, do exactly what they're doing in the Pro 14 and they'd still win the league. Nothing is stopping the Premiership clubs from developing players or a gameplan to compete. PRL's arrogance and stupidity is whats holding them back and its a pity they seem to steer the conversation in England. They're full of shite lads.

    • @corny165
      @corny165 Před 5 lety

      @craig forsyth You think the Irish clubs have a bigger budget than the top Premiership clubs?
      Saracens could rotate their players and build for the good of the club ala Leinster if they wished. Its just not the done thing in England and isn't part of the culture. That why Itoje plays 40 games a season. Same way throwing the ball around isn't part of the culture.
      3 years ago it was the Pro 14 not having to qualify for Europe that was the big disadvantage. That was debunked because the English clubs are still a distance behind in a European context. They'll seal off the premiership and i guarantee you nothing will change. The fear of relegation is another nonsense argument.
      There's no appetite for an honest conversation in England. PRL are just not fit for purpose and RFU aren't up for tackling them.

    • @DM-rp9ik
      @DM-rp9ik Před 5 lety

      @craig forsyth Central contacts dont have much to do with it. We had all that 10 or 15 years ago. I don't see how a central contract relates to an academy player. The big difference is Leinster and their schools. Munster and Ulster and are were they have always historicaly been since professional rugby. Leinster on the other hand are pumping out high quality players year on year now. They have 3 or 4 in the other provinces who didn't want to warm the bench at Leinster and more scattered across Europe.

    • @DM-rp9ik
      @DM-rp9ik Před 5 lety

      @craig forsyth I would imagine central contracts help players when they go into there 30s like Sexton and Best who might get another year or two at the top or if they need a bit more time to clear up an injury with Ireland games coming up that will probably be prioritized. But its not a silver bullet or magic formula that will give you more or better players. we have had it for 20 odd years and it didn't make the 02 or 13 sides world beaters we have been brutal at times over that 20 years too. England were top dogs 18 months ago and had the club system in place winning everything. Central Contracts will make more players available for longer but it won't fix poor form as the 2013 Ireland team will tell you.
