    Tindall is so entitled to his opinion and they are fair points - we here in Ireland are super sensitive to any sort of criticism and it doesn't really suit us!

    Great show guys. Really becoming one of my favourite podcasts now. Great to see the Irish and English guys mixing it up on the show. As an Irish fan, I have to say I felt a bit sorry for Mike Tindall. I understood where he was coming from even if I disagreed with him somewhat and I'm sure he got a ton of grief for his comments lol. Thought he handled it well and took it all in good spirit. "Tad Furlong" was hilarious :) :) P.s Get well soon Hask.

    Couple of thoughts: 1) I've just re-watched Ireland -v- New Zealand and was struck by how good a game it was but also by what a good game the ref. Wayne Barnes had. The pundits are all to quick to crap on the officials, TMOs included. 2) There's a good article in the Guardian by Rob Kitson on Andy Farrell life and history as a winner. The prospect of an Ireland with their central contract system, made mentally harder by Farrell's attitude to winning and then possibly supplemented by O'Gara (or eventually Sexton) as attack coach is truly terrifying for England. 3) not sure about the legality of the Farrell tackle , but it is lovely to watch 6'2", 14 stone, put 6' 8", 19 stone into reverse, more Farrell family attitude. 4) The laws on tackling perhaps do need some thought (again) - if a shoulder charge is illegal at the ruck/maul, why is it OK to drop your shoulder into the head of the tackler, perhaps this is what the Jacob Pyper was alluding to on the refs mike.

    • @aaronw667
      @aaronw667 Před 5 lety +4

      Murray John it took around seven cynical NZ penalties in that first half for Barnes to even give them a warning. Whitelock should have been in the bin at the very least

      @osunaarashisthirdroundcard8362 Před 5 lety +1

      Indeed, those are good points for sure. I agree on (ii), (iii) and (iv), though I thought Barnes was quite lenient on New Zealand in the first half. There could have been one, if not two, sin bins in my opinion, but overall not too bad of a performance by him.
      Though what really struck from reading your interesting points was: There's a good article in The Guardian?!

    • @alanb9443
      @alanb9443 Před 5 lety +1

      Aaron yes but Kearney should have also been yellow carded. In the end it balanced out and I thought the game was consistently reffed. Barnes was equally lenient for both teams.

      Wayne Barnes is easily the best ref around at the moment (shame he's soon to retire) and totally scuppered the usual All Blacks game plan of being permanently offside and infringing at the breakdown.

    I heard Mike Tindals positive comments but Ireland have scored more tries than any of then other teams in the 6 Nations for the last two years by a distance in 2018 if I remember correctly. And yes we do it by keeping the ball and being ruthlessly efficient. A bit like Germany in football, they beat Brazil 7-1 and kept the ball for nearly the entire game. If the Pep Barcelona win 5-1 and keep 70% possession they're geniuses but if Ireland do the same we lack ambition??? It's a perception of Ireland that's factually incorrect as Joe Schmidt pointed out in a press conference pre the England game two years ago when it turns out England kicked the ball twice as much as we did. People just remembered it when we did it because we quite often fielded it back. It was just a bit of a lazy observation is all, no offence taken. PS, we have scored more tries than the All Blacks twice out of the last three times we hagebplayed them. Unexciting??? X lol

    • @Mabrennan2012
      @Mabrennan2012 Před 5 lety +7

      Also, our winger Jacob Stockdale scored 7 tries, the closest player two him scored 4. Generally the ball does my get to the wing if you're not being expansive. A bit simplistic I grant you but all Stockdales tries came from going down the 5m channel I'm pretty sure. You've got to be quite expanse to get out there.

    Great show, very interesting. BUT.... No SH players considered in player of the month? Second the Farrell "Tackle." Stating what I thought was obvious, making the tackler wrap both arms stops them driving the shoulder in ....a shoulder charge(?) The question surely is are shoulder charges illegal or does Farrell have an exemption and where does the statement that the first one was illegal leave the second one. Does this tackle require great timing or just the use of a shoulder?

      Making the transition between league and union is rarely successful. It took Brad Thorn several years to learn to be a lock, a simpler and most similar position in the 2 codes (he failed initially as no.8). Playing SB as a forward for club, then moving him to be a back for England was doomed from the start. But may have worked better in a true team environment, no wonder he left straight away.

      @@jeffjefferson3364 agree he did ok. But there are tactical differences between codes and positions. Having him switch codes then switch from backs to forwards is asking a lot. How many seasoned union players swap backs to forwards? I was not surprised to see him leave and the his comment on 2015 says a lot. It appears egos are having a negative influence, Tindalls comments on Guscott and Johnstone make it sound fractured and unwelcoming.

    Not withstanding the rules, the Faz Jr. tackling technique is coached and effective. Low man wins irrespective of size differential. Farrell’s shoulder is low enough and sufficiently in front at speed to out-leverage the much bigger, but taller ball carrier. To his credit, and to preserve his health, Rhodda tried to lower his shoulder and body height.

    The Irish have short memories it seems, and I for one (an England supporter) was immensely frustrated by Ireland's six nations campaign in 2017. They got smashed against Wales, beaten by Scotland, but suddenly found their motivation to rain on England's parade (not to mention beating the All Black's previously) to stop both teams achieving a record for the most consecutive wins. When you beat the All Black's and England, but can't beat Scotland & Wales then it shows how complacent they are and how poor their motivation was in that year. I think that's what Mike Tindall is eluding to, an extremely lacklustre and complacent 2017, but stepped up in 2018.
