  • The Arturia MatrixBrute has been out for a little while now, but it remains one of the best deals available for serious synth enthusiasts.
    If you’re just buying your first synth there are certainly more affordable and beginner friendly options out there, but if you consider yourself more of a connoisseur and want something that stands out from the crowd, the MatrixBrute is definitely worth a look.
    It’s tough to think of a more powerful monophonic synth than the MatrixBrute, and you could probably spend the rest of your life learning new features and functions so to save you some time I thought we’d go through ten things you may not know about the Arturia MatrixBrute.

    I’ve owned a lot of synths over the past 4 decades, currently I own a Kong MS2000, Moog sub 37, Moog voyager and a Matrixbrute. The Matrixbrute is the greatest, fun and the most, versatile synth I’ve every owned and is easy to learn and play. Highly, highly recommended...

If you get the MB would be nice to hear your feedback Vicvic Moon.I got mine from Scan Computers and they're pretty hot on good deals - it came with the travel case which is like a tank - i didn't expect the case as well - for £1500 so just went for it.Good luck and happy music making.

    I love my MatrixBRUTE and can't ever imagine wanting to part with it! I've only ever found three drawbacks, and only the first is actually a regular (minor) annoyance - the other two are really nitpicking, and many of my other synths would have much longer lists!
    1. The e-Paper display was a design blunder as it just takes too long to refresh.
    2. No Ring Modulator.
    3. The directions of (a) the sync between the first two oscillators and (b) the FM between them are both set in stone, so you can't flip one of them (which IMO would have made for slightly more interesting effects when using both features at once).

    epic, i was considering getting one of these. is there audio input? theoretically, could I add another osc in from a modular and send midi from the matrxbrute to control it so it could act as a 4th oscillator?

    • @Noisegate
      @Noisegate  Před 5 lety +6

      Absolutely, great idea! Your modular could be triggerd by MIDI or CV/Gate and the MatrixBrute's audio input appears as source #5 on the mixer (external) which has the same internal routing options as its own 3 oscillators.

  • @WildernessMusic_GentleSerene

    I went with the kurtzweil VAST/FM synth instead. Both the MatrixBrute and the Kurtzweil are synths that can mimic modular rigs, the Kurtzweil can have up to 32 different modules working together in series or parallel.

    • @Noisegate

      Absolutely. VCO 3 doubles as LFO 3 (as it's listed in the modulation sources) which can of course operate at audio rate and be used to modulate almost anything, including the PW of VCOs 1&2.

    1) Can the filter accurately track the keyboard for pitched resonance? 2) can the mod wheel be set to add to mod to the filter (for adding vibrato to pitch tracked resonance) 3 same scenario but can you add slew of portamento to the filter? With all three of these features you can get some uncanny human whistle sounds among others.

    • @Noisegate
      @Noisegate  Před 4 lety +1

      1: Yes, keyboard can modulate filter cutoff, 2: Yes, LFO to filter cutoff, mod wheel controlling mod depth, 3: We don't see why the filter cutoff would respond to glide/portamento any differently than the oscillator pitch, so let's say yes.

    • @Michael_Geyre
      @Michael_Geyre Před 3 lety +1

      No, it's complicated to accurately track the filter, as it's not a precise value, so it takes time tweaking before getting something playable (they improved that with the polybrute)
      Just with the ladder filter, don't expect to track Steiner filter
      And no, glide does not work with cutoff, so, if you manage to make a barely playable sine on 2 octaves with the ladder filter, you will never have glide on it (but can modulate it with the mod wheel)

    • @GeorgeLocke
      @GeorgeLocke Před rokem

      @@Michael_Geyre it would seem as though, if the sequencer sends V/oct, and it has built in glide, then you should be able to route that to the filter somehow.
      These are the reasons people end up with "real" modular systems. (Which involve no headaches. None.)

    • @Michael_Geyre
      @Michael_Geyre Před rokem

      @@GeorgeLocke it is possible, I just said it's complicated
      1V/oct value is something like 96, and you have to tweak to have something in tune (with ladder filter, steiner tracking makes it unplayable on keyboard)

    Can I run the sounds from another keyboard through Matrixbrute's modulation?

    • @Noisegate
      @Noisegate  Před 5 lety +2

      We guess that depends on your definition of modulation. Control voltage signals are typically used for modulation which are audio signals, but quite different from the sound produced by keyboards. The MatrixBrute does have an audio input however which means it can be used as an effects processor for your other keyboards.
