    I used to be really into chess, but I stopped playing for a while due to life commitments. When I tried to get back into it recently, I felt a bit out of practice. I explored various learning platforms to help me get back on track, but it was your series that truly reignited my passion for the game. Your detailed explanations and thoughtful approach have been incredibly helpful. Thank you so much for reigniting my interest in chess.

    One thing I've noticed through this speedrun that I don't know if you've mentioned is how many of these opponents use so much less time than you. Particularly the second opponent here blitzed out like 20 moves with over 8.5 minutes on the clock.

    • @chrisosborne4731
      @chrisosborne4731 Před 6 měsíci +42

      It's very common for lower elo players to do that. They tend to blitz out the first move that comes to mind. It can be in part because they don't have good time management skills development and also because they don't recognize when they have a critical position and should take more time to consider the variations.

    • @joeb4142
      @joeb4142 Před 6 měsíci +36

      Also Eric is doing a fairly thorough analysis of the game while he plays so that uses up quite a bit of time.

    • @chrisosborne4731
      @chrisosborne4731 Před 6 měsíci +17

      @@alexandershorse9021 It's only wasting time if you'll lose on time as a result. New players would benefit from slowing down and just taking stock of a position. What does my opponent want to do? Are there any tactics? You might think it is a lot to ask of low rated players, but when blundering pieces is rampant in this elo range the time is well spent to stop and ask "What did my opponent threaten with their last move?"

    • @alexandershorse9021
      @alexandershorse9021 Před 6 měsíci +2

    The more I've watched this series, the more it's made me realize how often I lose awareness of significant components, such as missing significant tactical signals and tendency to go for overly-aggressive moves that actually weaken my pieces ability to work together. I'm inspired to work on my Italian, and King's Pawn opening, to look for natural opportunities to punish weak counter-play in low-rated lobbies as you have shown. Those minor pieces sure can contribute a lot to the battle, when orchestrated well together! :)
    P.S. I'm kind of glad that several of your 700 lobbies, were not near as obvious how to win. It seems there really is much awareness we need to have, in order to consistently convert those levels of games into wins.

    There’re actually a few good opening where you play f3/f6 quite early. Not as early as move 2 of course. I’ll put down a few if people want to try them out.
    Blackmar Diemer gambit,
    Von Popiel gambit,
    Fantasy Caro Kann,
    Budapest gambit (the f6 line can be played instead of main line Bb4+),
    Nimzo-Larsen attack (black can plays f6 if he put 2 pawns in the center),
    Owen defense/English defense,
    Pirc defense (white plays f3 in the main line)
    I probably forgot a few too so someone else can fill it out. I left out stuff like Englund gambit sideline on purpose since those aren’t really a good opening.

    In game 2, after 7... Bxc3, I am looking at 8. Qxg7. Black would have to play either Rc8 or Ke7 to defend the rook. If 8... Ke2, then 9. Bg5 wins the queen. If 8... Rc8, then the bishop could be taken on c3 with Black's position seriously eroded. Grabbing the g pawn does open up the file for Black, but it doesn't seem like he would have much of a chance to use that, as he has no support for the rook, and his king has become very vulnerable. The move also makes dealing with a subsequent d5 by Black a snap, as it no longer exposes the queen to attack. As it turned out, he allowed White to make the same Qxg7 a move later, but castling would have prevented that.

    I would love to see you try things like Stafford gambit. I know you’re trying to play more solid things, but we watch your big videos and ideas like that and ponzianni but face moves you never do because we are at lower levels. So your guides don’t cover that. (Plus it would just be interesting) Keep up the great work!
