Wait for new game.....
My last ten years plus :D
This strikes home very much
And what's worse is I actually enjoy it!
+Mr Thornton
And all of it is fun, somehow :)
+Khoare Which is why I normally wait out a new game. Though in my case your example would apply to strategy guides - I bought the hardcover version of Skyrim's Legendary guide, geez its huge (and cost more than the game did). :)
Haha, lol, these are facts, you are right! I can sit that one out and wait 1-2 years (no kidding). Patches, dlc, updated mods, tools for modding, real good ENBs and then downloading a GOTY version for 30 bucks...this is the easy way to play Bethesda games...:))
So is the plugin folder the load order that people say to add it to last order in load order or certain mods? Move the file to the last line?
3 Gopher Fallout vids a day, keeps social life away!
Your tutorials are great. You got me into modding with your Skyrim videos, that's how I found your channel long ago. Before that I didn't even try. After watching those videos everything seemed so easy.
Gopher, I recently started playing FO4 (my kids got it for me) and began using mods for the first time. You are WONDERFUL and your delivery is great. Thank you for being clear and concise.
Odds that Gopher installs the lockpicking-hack mod (and the equivalent computer hacking mod) - approximately 100%. "Minigames." (grin)
+PSquared1969 Damned right!
+Gopher I just installed that one as well. the pc hacking minigame drives me insane :)
+FallDownBear You don't like clicking on random names for 3 hours?
+Gopher Quick question you recommend steam not being in the program x86 folder but if i have steam installed there but have steam install fallout in another location does it matter?
+7lightsaber69 No, It doesnt matter.
You can install Steam itself where ever you want and the games for steam as well.
My Steam is running on my OS SSD (C:\) and I'm installing the games on a second HDD (E:\).
Excellent video, Gopher. I appreciate how thorough and precise you explain everything.
Thank you.
I don't know what I'd do without your modding guides :)
Nothing probably
7 years on and still amazing advice, thank you!
Great tutorial Gopher. I keenly await further Fallout 4 modding developments as they unfold. Will be watching for more FO4 modding tutorials from you. Thanks for all.
Its been nearly nine years and this video is still helpful, truly evergreen, great work.
I dont have the plugin despite the fact that i have selected to show hidden files
same
Gopher! Did you know that the launcher actually does have a Data Files option? I am not kidding, on the launcher picture of the power armor, you need to click a little left and under the left eye. Just click around there until it pops up. I did it completely by accident and I have no idea why they'd hide it like that.
+Wyatt Putnam Very true indeed !
- left click left/under the RIGHT POWERARMOR EYE ( the left one when you look at it )
- close the tab again by clicking CANCEL
EDIT:
More people found it :

Also thanks for the tip Wyatt :)
Omg, its true. I thought you guys were joking around but it's really there.
postimg.org/image/oacedo8fv/
+Wyatt Putnam not there for me
+Whovian make sure you have bEnableFileSelection=1in your fallout4Prefs.ini it at the bottom under [Launcher]
oooh that makes sense xD wow aint i a genious xD
im still entirly lost i followed every step and yet my manullaly installed mods refused to be turned on while my steam and bethsda net mods work just fine
This is simply the best tutorial I have seen on how to install mods manually. Thank you very much for the clear and well explained information.
Gopher, Thank you... Your tutorials are always amazing quality!
Im a lil late to the Fallout 4 game barely played today for the 1st time. I know wow, but I wanted to say thank you, this video was spot on, voice was very clear to hear, you recorded the screen perfectly, wish I knew how to do videos like that, and well everything was very, very easy to follow. Thank you for this and your other videos.
Everyone having issues with mods going into dlclist: copy the names from dlclist and put them in the plugins folder and save. Then right click plugins and go to preferences and check "read-only" then it should work.
I admire your patience for creating this kind of tutorial lol, is it the same with skyrim mod installation ?
+Like Mild No, Skyrim is much easier. Fallout 4 will become easier once they give official support for mods but for now this is what we have to do :)
Gopher yeah i just played it, i have to tweak some ini files first.
I can't find common in my steamapps. :(
@@loadingscreen4983 You've definitely found it by now but for anyone else who sees this there is a search bar in the top right you can use.
I love you Gopher, the only youtuber that makes this old man a proficcient mod user. Back in Skyrim days I worked my way up to 200 ish mods thanks to you.
Amazingly helpful! Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video! very simple steps to follow and you made it so someone who knew nothing about any of this before could follow it successfully as well as great explanations. Thank you again!
Thank you so much for making these videos!
Gopher, I want you to know that you are a really important person in my life as a gamer. No, really, you help us so much, you are the perfect answer to a LOT of questions. Thank you so much for taking the time to do all this!!!
Thank you Gopher for all your explanations and Tuturials about Fallout 4, very helpfull.
A big thank you for this and the mod preparation video you've put up. Nice and straightforward, completely idiot-proof. I've gone from having no knowledge to installing the WillFromAfar voice for a low-intelligence Savant walkthrough (have also tested removing it to make sure it works. Everything hunky-dory). Without this video, I'd just be staring at the screen wondering what to do. Thanks again! You've helped this amateur a treat. You're a gem (salutes)
Okay, I'm gonna try my first time modding the next weekend. This tutorial appears to be very carefully explained. If this works, you've got a new subscriber/fan, my friend.
Can't wait for more mods to come out. Are you going to be doing a mod showcase series similar to Skyrim sanctuary?
as soon as the creation kit comes out you bet he will
+DrZepto He has started one, called mod vault
That value to weight mod reminds me of how much I miss skyui and other UI improvements for skyrim.
Such calming voice, great turtorial thankyou so much!!
Thanks Gopher for these videos.
It's funny because I will always suggest any person new to modding to watch your video absolutely amazing and helpful not condescending at all and clear with instructions thank you kind sir :)
Gopher, you really are the BEST! Thanks so much for your vids!!!
What an outstanding delivery of know how.
You're the best, Gopher. Thanks for the tutorial!
Holy, so useful tutorials really exist, good job!
Man i love how u make your videos the way that even an Rat could understand them and mod the game
Great Gopher, thanks. Would not have figured out this out on my own.
your videos and mods are the best, cant wait to see more!
Boy it has been 8 years. :) Thank you. PS Can you update this video for 2024. Suggested mod to use Wall Pass-Through Power Conduits
The only youtuber I don't adblock. Keep up the great work.
Very useful and easy to follow tutorial as always.
I love your dramatic tone of voice!
Great video exactly what I was looking for. Liked and subscribed for the future ones. Thanks
you have the same voice than stanley parable, I LOVE IT
Thank you Gopher.. its was very appreciated.
Excellent How-to. Well done that man!
GOD your voice is amazing, and thank you for the Toot!
i got a question: i am trying to download a minutemen reskin pack and i got a Winrawr and when i opened it it had a data file in it, but in that file i got:
1: a map called:"materials"
2:"a map called Textures
3"an esp file called: Standalone.esp
witch one do i put in the fallout folder?
please help
Huge help Gopher, thanks!
The plug-in keeps removing its self from the notepad what do I do to save it other then pressing ctrl+s or save
Great video man, you just improved my game with this simple explanation. Helps a lot to idiots like me like literally just double click and play the game. Thank you!
I ran the game went into notepad and the mod wasn't there no problem so I added it and then saved notepad. Checked to make sure it was saved then I started the game again and checked it wasn't in notepad even though I saved it. I did your other video about enabling mods and nothing is working for me.
Well, been relying on you educating me on how not to break things for ages (lookin' at you Skyrim). Finally got around to pushing that "Subscribe" thing-a-ma-jigger. Worth the broken finger. Serious Gopher, thanks a lot for the shared wisdom and step-by-step coverage. You've saved a lot of people uncountable rages.
I was having trouble getting this setup even after following the directions. The last thing I tried was changing the custom file to read only. My prefs is also read only. These settings might cause other issues but it's working well enough for now. Thanks.
So i am trying to install the Higher settlement budget mod but when i DL it, has a README.text and 2 folders, 1 being 0- bat files and the other Formod what do i do?
i dont have the 'plugins' text file?
neither do i
I don't have it either!
Yeah, but you have a "DLC" file. Enter it! Bum! That is the new plugins file
Hope I helped
What if you have the DLC file and the plugins file? I have both. Do they cause conflicts?
@@TheArchetypalist Everyone having issues with mods going into dlclist: copy the names from dlclist and put them in the plugins folder and save. Then right click plugins and go to preferences and check "read-only" then it should work.
Wonderful. Very clear and concise. Thanks!
bEnableFileSelection=1 this in that txt makes my controller act like im pressing two times any button when i press it one time in fact
The description is wrong, it's not Darker Nights but easy lockpicking in the video.
I dont know why but for some reason , everytime I install an mod and open the Fallout4Launcher the mod doesnt work it deos not work because the name of the mod is not saving in the plugins document ! and everytime i write it in there manually and start fallout the plugins document resets . Do anyone know why something like thi happens?
The NMM is an easy tool and I use it for Fallout New Vegas but that's an older version I had to go digging for. The new NMM requires the Microsoft .net framework Vs 4.5 that doesn't exactly come free with a trial version of Windows. In fact it refuses to accept any update so I mod fallout 4 manually. Some mods work others do not and your videos here seem to be fixing a lot of these issues. Thank you Gopher :)
I already knew all this, just wanted to hear you voice again, really.
My mods didn't work so I followed this guide and now they do. you deserve a like.
Thanks Gopher! Subbed/Liked! :) Great Videos/Content :D
Dude I just signed in to say THANK YOU (usually I dont sign in ) BRO THANK YOU SO MUCH for this tutorial before watching this I thought it will be a quick tutorial and i will still not be able to used mods in this game but thanks to u bro :D (Y) you literally clear all my confusion :* This is the best and most clear in depth tutorial i've seen :D... May u live long bro :) and again Thank you so so much :)...
Thanks for the video, Gopher! I have a somewhat unrelated question though. Is there a setting in the ini files that can set the ingame timescale? As it is now, the ingame days go by faaaar too quickly, which is especially jarring since coming from Skyrim, which I have set to 12 instead of the default 20 or 30. I know it is possible through the console commands, but I just feel an ini edit is much more efficient.
So it won't let me add my mod to the plugin document. I don't know why can you please help.
Whenever I put all my esp, esm, and ba2 files in the plugins file, where it says "please do not modify this file" it erases them every time I open up the launcher. I checked and it put the majority of my esp and esm files into a different file called "DLCList" is this ok, or is there something I need to do to change it?
Dunno if anyone else has this, but when you open up the launcher, rather than installing the plugins, it uninstalls them? I've checked my files, and edited it manually into the plugins file, and every time I reopen the file after running the game to test it, or even opening the launcher, it has deleted the plugin itself?
What's the trouble shooting routine if one installed doesn't work, and more importantly, how do you adjust a mod with multiple versions when NMM only downloads a single file, that DOES NOT have an options box that pops up when you double click it?
that was fast! If only we can have this many vids all the time!
Gopher.... I did every thing that you said in this video and the previous one(the one that enables modding) but I still can´t get my mod to work in the game... my file is an .esm and does not appear in the plugins file.... instead it appears in the one above that.... the one that says "DLCList".... any thoughts that why this may be ocurring? Thanks for the assist.
help me fast
there is no plugin.txt in my appdata folder and my mods are not wroking . how do i get my plugin.txt file in app data
I tried downloading a Tiefighter Pip-boy reskin and it didn't have a interface or data file. It had Textures > animobjects > pipboy > and then it has DDS images in it. I put the whole textures file into Data. it didn't break or change the game, and the pipboy is the same.
Very very nice and clear instruction videos. Thanks!
I have "more armor slots.esp" but it won't automatically go to plugins.esp file when i check it with notepad++ and the mod won't work. If i quit fallout 4 the "more armor slots.esp" has dissapeared from plugins
When I modify the plug in file and type the mod in that I have in the data I folder I save it and close it then when I go back to see why the mods isn't working in game the plugin keeps disappearing. What's with that?
thank you, the video was really clear and helpful
I got everything set up correctly for the full dialogue mod. but it doesn't seem to work. I still have the same layout as before when talking.
My Fallout did'nt dettect some ESP while instaling with Vortex, now I install manually an they work. Thanks!
This video help a lot thanks man!
Question. I installed a few mods and tried to continue from my save point but it would keep closing back to desktop. Do i have to start a new game in order to use these mods?
what happen if i didn't see the "plugins.txt"? Should i start to create the file by using the notepadd ++ or it is not possible to create one?
problem the mods i installed are all texture mods for the pipboy and dogmeat and when i open the zip right away am faced with a file called textures for all 3 mods and when i tryed to add 2 it said there can only be 1 texture file what do i do???
I followed everything and tripple checked every step, but every time i load the game its just regular fallout 4. Im trying to get armorsmith extended installed. What do you think it is?
All the mods I've downloaded and put in my data folder were pepperzip files, not esm or esp files. The mods aren't working- is that why?
even if I don't have a folder that says data can i just create one and store any mods that I manually download there?
in my data folder on FO4 the materials folder doesnt seem to beable to open, i think this makes it so a few of the standalone weapons become textureless
I can't create a separate file for games as when I try to move steam it says the file location is open and cannot be moved even when everything is shut
i have a problem, i do the things as u say and typed in what u gave us in the disc but when i have placed the plugin but when ever i start up fallout 4 it goes away from the plugin, under fallout 4 in the plugin i typed the plugin in manually and saved but when ever i start the game and then go to plugin to check if the mod plugin is still there which it isent it keeps getting pulled away from the appdata plugin everytime what should i do?
Very good video, well explained, thank you very much
hello I do not appear in the mod plugins I put, it was a power armor with individual files and the other thing I do not remember his name what should I do?
Thanks for the video. My english level is low, but you video is the most understandable I'ver ever seen, good work.
Você é muito bom interlocutor e tem a capacidade de passar a informação em passos tão bem quanto. Like sempre!
WTF
prefs file ends at LOD no blurs shader or launcher sub-section... is that due to a recent update? might need to update the video
I had a textures folder, no interface folder, should I drag that into the interface folder I have from earlier mods?
If there happens to be an Interface file for more than one mod will it be ok if I merge the files?
Also the Securitron mod by M has loose fliles and a plugin just to let you know Gopher
this actually turns on the plugins or just avoid the game to crash once the mods are installed?
Guys to view the data files installed in fallout 4 there is a secret window that can be open in the launcher. What you do is to the left of the helmet where the handle bar is next to the visor you click the bottom of the bar.
