NADS IQ, Yes you can make a AK-74 bolt work with a AR-15. You should be able to put a Glock trigger in your AR as well, makes for a light trigger pull.
Sorry I'm late to this party, but yes, you can put a AK-74 bolt into an AR bolt carrier. You just need to swap the buffer spring with the AK 74 guide rod and spring of course, due to the different recoil impulse. Just shove it down in there. You can trust me, I'm an internet person.
@NADS IQLOL, are you a masochist? Why can't you just admit you know NOTHING about the topic, and thus asked a REALLY stupid question? There's nothing wrong with stupid questions -- they give you a chance to learn. It's only wrong when your ego won't let you admit what you've done.
I run a bootleg BC, LMT bolt, and POF roller cam pins, with staked gas key. Basically the best of all 3 worlds. Runs great suppressed, bolt with almost never shear a lug, and the roller cam pin makes the BCG cycle like its on ice and a thin layer of oil. Super smooth and doesn’t damage your upper. Running this bolt set up with a noveske 300 BO barrel and gas tube and JPE silent capture springs with adjustable springs has made my rifle nearly perfect and unstoppable. Now to perfect the biggest issue with rifles: magazines.
One of THE best videos I've ever seen, done by somebody that really knows his subject and communicates it very well. Terrific, and typically classy Mr. Bartocchi.
I've been watching your videos for years and can not stress enough how amazing you are for the firearms community. You are an unsung staple and I have a deep respect for you.
@@carlbecklehimer1898 I've read that it doesn't do as much for it as shorter barrels, but it probably still helps some. I'll be buying one eventually for my MARS-L
Rubber City Armory called me and asked why I placed the order. After a conversation with the gentleman, he advised me to not install the adjustable key on my life and liberty rifle. So, he canceled the order.
Part of the reason young manufacturing doesn’t stake the bolt carriers is the extra lug they added between the bolts that takes all the gas force instead of trying to shear the bolts. It means the bolts are solely there for clamp force and not shear force.
Very well narrated, nothing I enjoy more than listening to a well read and experienced guy who you know is giving you good info and an education. As a point of interest...take note that many of the guys doing these firearm information videos are well spoken and mechanically adept to the task at hand, they deliver the data, the instructions and the technical information in a manner that is educational. Many military people have good speaking skills. WELL DONE AND GREAT VIDEO FROM CANADA
Thank you for all of this info brother, well done. & man I've watched a lot of your videos, so I must say you understand a lot about firearms, its cool to see someone so knowledgeable about firearms. Again thank you & great channel
Another fantastic video! Thank you for sharing your knowledge my friend. I am so thankful that you make these very informative videos. I think it’s shocking that you don’t have millions of subscribers. The amount of firearm facts one can learn from watching your channel is impressive.
The engineering that goes into these BCGs is really interesting. Milspec guarantees reliability and interchangeability among military weapons but there ARE improvements that have made a good design even better.
100% what a super educational video! I love it when information is presented in such detail. Super easy informational you taught some great information thank you so very much. Time to sub and watch the rest of the series! Thank you sir!
Great info Chris; haven’t really considered becoming a Patreon Member for any channel; however, you’ve changed my view with your technical knowledge and explanations !
You really express commitment and expertise in your field sir. I learned alot and even discovered faxon as a company by way of this video. I've gone on to purchase one of their complete rifles and I love it. Thank you
I bought a Sharps Rifle Co XPB BCG for my 10" pistol because I figured the improved geometry would help with the more harsh gas system. I'm going to combine that with an adjustable gas block when I finally get it suppressed.
Dude ! Awesome. Great video Chris & H. Idk if I feel adequate with my tool craft nitride bcg 🤷🏼♂️. If I do a major higher end build I’ll definitely use this as a reference. I’m surprised you didn’t have the DD chrome bcg. 👍🏻🇺🇸 love you guys.
Yes, I certainly did enjoy it! I can appreciate the work that goes into these and the people that work on them after watching this video. I'm planning to build a dream rifle but I'm going about it slow. I bought an M&P Sport II at a shot show several years ago but only because Barry Soetoro was threatening to ban them. After shooting several kinds of ARs including Colts and custom builds, I went with the M&P. It just felt the best in my hands and ergonomically. I wasn't really into rifles yet because I had barely gotten into shooting using pistols. I still have that rifle but after additions to it like light, red dot and sling, it's kind of heavy. I'm pretty sure I'll be going with a lightweight BCG for my build.
Proud patreon supporter for a little over a year now. This kinda stuff is why I love this channel so much. Awesome video Chris, thanks for the editing Heather!!!! Can't wait for the rest of the series
I have a bootleg carrier, and I like it well enough. It does it's job well, in my opinion. The ONLY complaint I have, is the clicks get gooey and are hard to feel when it get scuzzy. And it does get gross when running a 5.56 can.
I have the PWS Bootleg, a couple of Toolcrafts will various degrees of Gucci coatings, and an LWRC rig. The LWRC with the Bootleg adjustable gas would be God-tier.
Today, the LMT BCG from Primary Arms is $494.10+$10.32 S/H$504.42. The LMT bolt from the company website is about $341.10 bolt only from Big Tex Ordnance limlited 1. My LMT arrived on Monday.
If your interested in trying a PWS DI Carrier I have one you can borrow. Its a very interesting carrier, there is allot if bad information about it on the internet, the majority of which comes from people with 0 experiance with the PWS DI Carrier. The carrier is heavier and only has 1 gas vent, it was designed to increase dwell time and allow the chamber pressure to decrease before extraction. I am using it on a carbine length 16" barrel, along with a Vltor A5 H2 buffer system, it seems to have less recoil than my 14.5 mid length. The build cost me next to nothing and has become one of my favorite rifles
Bar none, the best enhanced BCG video I've seen! Although, I would have liked to seen the KAC bcg, this video covered the top heavy hitters! LMT, Lantac, JP.. Outstanding! Also, what's your take on using a JP enhanced bolt in the Lantac bolt carrier? Fixing what isn't broken, or slightly improving it?
Public Service Announcement: do NOT use Chinese sourced carrier key screws like YFS. If you clean everything thoroughly with Brake Cleaner, use Red Loctite gel on the screw threads, and torque them to 56 inch pounds you’re good to go. Do NOT stake the screws with a hammer and chisel - you’ll put stress risers in the screw cap radius. Young Mfg (and others) don’t recommend staking - but if you do, use the Brownells tool.
LWRC did at one point sell a 'lobster tail' bolt, with a fully supported bolt face. I have one. Then for some reason they discontinued the bolt for the 5.56 rifles, but kept it in their 6.8 spc rifles.
There is a whole book filled with all of the Mil Spec Numbers and a key to what each number means. One Mil Spec number can mean something as mundane as "May be cleaned with soap and water", and another number may mean "May be used in orbiting satellites" or "May be launched from a howitzer, and survive long enough to provide inertial guidance.". Since the AR10 was never adopted there is no Mil Spec data for the M10, and those tend to all be a little different.
i’m building a aero/palmetto lr308 with a heavy 18” barrel, I’m probably going to watch this video 5 times to absorb all the info, I would appreciate a recommendation on a BCG to use, No recoil would be very desirable, Great channel, Thanks

@NADS IQ how the hell do you think that would work?
NADS IQ, Yes you can make a AK-74 bolt work with a AR-15. You should be able to put a Glock trigger in your AR as well, makes for a light trigger pull.
@NADS IQ A lot of people don't know this, but you can also fit a Chevy 350 engine in a AR-15 BCG -- makes them run faster and more reliably.

You make the AR interesting again, good stuff Chris

I knew he was going to go straight for the LMT!
I'm curious about how well it will improve the 16" carbine length gas systems. They run at higher pressures.

An informative and quality video. Thank you for it.

Great video with wonderful info! Congratulations on a job well done.
As usual this was thoroughly enjoyable and informative.
great video
This is what I've been wanting to hear. Information from an engineering standpoint
Excellent presentation with lots of great information. A real learning experience.
Great in depth explanation of AR BCG. Thank you
Wow this was a lot of info. I’m gonna need to watch this a few times. Thank you for putting all of this great information in one place.
The Teflon is nice. Cleans up easy, doesn’t stain.
Great information. Thanks for making the effort.

I absolutely LOVE this channel! I just put it in and listen and try to absorb. He def has a passion for the AR platform
Thank you for the lessons , your knowledge is amazing and well presented
Very good video lots of knowledge. Learned a lot on what to pick for my first bolt carrier.

Cool video
Great video!👍🏼🤩. Thank you
Awesome, thanks! Decided to go with the LMT ECG for my 300 BLK suppressed 9".
Good stuff sir.
finally getting my lmt enhanced this week from brownells. I have been waiting for almost 6 months.
That Voodoo Arms bolt was probably done with a casting with the gas port in the blank and then machined the rest of the way?!

great video ,thanks Chris ,your the reason I run a LMT E.bolt with a Smith Ent. carrier . flawless function with mid-length gas system
