  • In this video Domingo and I go through reassembly of an Allison 2200RDS that came in with a broken bell housing. The rotating assembly and front support were on a pallet

    I have a 2003 Dodge Ram with a 5.9 engine. I want to put an Allison behind my Cummins engine and I see that Allison offers the 1000 series transmission with a Cummins bellhousing however there are variations of the actual Cummins bellhousing. How do I know which bellhousing will work on my transmission?

    Does this mean that the bell housings between 1000 and 2000 are interchangeable? Or is the process just the same?

    Hi, I need to replace my bellhousing as it has a chunk missing out of it. I have a donor transmission. I noticed on reassembly that the gaskets got covered in oil on the plate in your video, does that cause a leaking problem or will that be ok? I was nervous about that with mine but you dont seem to mind it so it must be ok? Thanks for the video!!

      As long as the baskets are in tact and not ripped it will be ok. Make sure to use the copper washers in the same location they were removed.

    Thanks for the video. What is the 2 hose ports by the oil filter ? On my allison 1000 I'm swapping the GM bellhousing to the sae# 3 bellhousing from a allison 2000 .

      Cooler lines some bells have a removable manifold some are integrated. Either will work just make sure the fitting sizes match. There is a #12 or #8.

      @@nathancranson6421 that's for the oil cooler lines I imagine. There just in different locations from the 1000 bellhousing to the 2000 bellhousing. I'm piecing it together it's my 12v / allison project truck sorry for the lack of knowledge . Thanks for your help :-)

      Ken Gray no worries. Yes the cooler lines. I helped one of my friends do this once. The GM bell has built in 3/4” holes for the fittings.

      @@nathancranson6421 yes they sure do. Just one more question when replacement the bellhousing. Would you recommend me replacing both sides of the bellhousing plate gaskets. And by chance do you have the bolt torque handy I think I seen 18-21 ft-lbs

    • @nathancranson6421
      @nathancranson6421  Před 4 lety

      Ken Gray yes replace both gaskets. Torque for all of the 15 mm bolt heads is 38-45 lb/ft.

    Hey Nathan. I am changing an engine in my 2003 to a built cat 3126 I put together. I am wondering if I can buy a SAE#2 housing that I can replace on my trans. I see them for sale but the back of the housing oil passages look slightly different in one area. The one I was looking at says it's for a 1000. Do you know if one is available for what I'am trying to do? I would just get an Allison that would bolt up but I want the t case behind one. And I can buy the stage 3 kits to make the 1000 strong enuff to hold the 900lbs of torque. Any direction would be appreciated. Great video by the way.

      Yes housing part number 29556621. You can use the same speed sensor but the cooler lines and fittings will need to be changed to #12 o-ring fittings.

    Hey I put a new bellhousing on an Allison 1000, the output won’t spin with the stator and bellhousing on, It will without and slowly spin the input shaft, I don’t remember if it did before , I’ve took apart to see if anything was binding to cause this, any idea?

    • @nathancranson6421
      @nathancranson6421  Před 4 lety

      If you are doing it horizontally the bearing underneath the rotating assembly(stator) probably dropped down out of its seat. Remove the bearing and dry the oil off and stick it in there with vaseline. DO NOT flip the bearing. Make sure to put it back the way it came out or you will scatter all of the hard parts in short order.

    • @nathancranson6421
      @nathancranson6421  Před 4 lety

      It’s just a flat thrust bearing. Kind of looks like a big washer.

    • @cameronhubbard2394
      @cameronhubbard2394 Před 4 lety

      Nathan Cranson so ur thinking the bearing you show in the beginning of the video slipped down and is binding up the trans, I believe that. I’m assuming the trans output should turn if it in out of park? Thanks for the reply

    • @nathancranson6421
      @nathancranson6421  Před 4 lety

      Cameron Hubbard Yes, if doing horizontal sitting on the pan that brg could drop slightly and when you tighten the bell housing bolts it binds the gear set. Yes trans output should spin in any position except park. Make sure torque converter is properly splined when installing in truck. It takes 3 steps. And never draw the bell housings together with wrench or impact.
