Saying the clothing has to "carry a certain amount of weight" is a very bad description. A much more accurate phrase is that it has to resist penetration of the material at at a minimum force of 800 newtons (1600 in the mask bib), simulating a broken blade hitting.
If the mask mesh bends under the test probe, that is NOT a failure. A failure under the probe is when the probe COMPLETELY penetrates between any pair of mesh strands down to the shoulder of the probe....makes a pretty distinct *tink* sound.
High resistance in an epee body cord does not cost your opponent a touch....that's not how the epee circuit works. High resistance might cost YOU a touch, tho.
Next time, how about getting an actual armorer to describe this?

lol.. that would be too easy and then the journalist wouldn't be paid as much I guess.... as they may not be seen as well to cope with multi tasking.....
