- MILESTONE | It’s the 80th Anniversary of the Air Force Song!
To celebrate this milestone we present a unique arrangement that was shot in one take…wait for the bonus ending from the United States Air Force Honor Guard!
80 years ago, composer Robert Crawford delighted the audience at the 1939 Cleveland Air Race with a performance of the newly minted service tune of the Army Air Corps.
$1000 was the prize being offered to the individual who would compose the song for the young service. Just two days before the deadline, Robert Crawford decided to pen a composition. Drawing on his own experience as a pilot in WWII, and also his professional music training from The Juilliard School and career as "The Flying Baritone," Crawford's composition was unanimously selected from over 600 submissions!
Years later when the United States Air Force became its own branch, the lyrics were changed slightly to reflect what we know and love today as the "Air Force Song." Please enjoy this special performance by your United States Air Force Band as we tip our hat to the extraordinary work of Robert Crawford that has stirred pride in our flying force for 80 years!

Lyrics:
Off we go into the wild blue yonder,
Climbing high into the sun
Here they come zooming to meet our thunder
At 'em boys, Give 'er the gun!
Down we dive, spouting our flame from under
Off with one helluva roar!
We live in fame or go down in flame. Hey!
Nothing'll stop the U.S. Air Force! - Hudba
Nothing Can Stop The US AIR FORCE!! ✈
Outstanding truth !
This song was composed by Robert Crawford, Miami, FL for the Army Air Corps in 1939, years before the Air Force was formed. The original words were "nothing can stop the Army Air Corps". My father flew with Bob Crawford during WWII and we would visit the Crawford family when I was a child. Bob could bang out this song on his grand piano and he had a fantastic baritone voice.
Changed to Army Air Force in 1941 and to US Air Force in 1947, coincident with name changes of the service.
When my dad joined, it was the Army Air Corps, then it was the Army Air Forces, and finally, the U.S. Air Force. :-)
Same for mine. He used to joke about going in with a green uniform and coming out with a blue one.
I'm certain all of you supported and took care of your dads during and after their service. Thank you for all the good you did, and all the good you do now, and shall do. We all benefit greatly. Be safe and careful, always!
@@worldtravel101 My Dad was told to wear what ever uniform he was discharged with at the end of WWll before being recalled as they didn't have an official uniform yet.
When I was an Air Force recruiter back in the early 70's I used the term "toot your flute in an Air Force suit"! It looks like it's still an applicable saying today! Thanks for the great rendition!
I've watched this three times, and every time I cry. What dedication to our country and our principles, no matter man or woman. They are the protectors of our freedom, and for others too.
God Bless America!
Happy 80th Birthday USAF!!! May you rule the stratosphere and beyond forever.

Thank you,I am proud and lucky to have been called an airman

The song is 80 years old, the USAF branch did not come into existence until Sept 18, 1947.
Hey, dude!! It's the 80th anniversary of the USAF song!! The USAF just turned 72 years last September 18!!
@@HarvestTexas You beat me to the punch!
Congratulations USA AIR FORCE!!
My Dad would sing this song when we went camping but for him, it was the Army Air Corps and his time in the Pacific in WWII from Saipan to Ie Shima
How did they make this just one take? Wonderful performance!
The Air Force band is second to none!!!!!!!!!!!!
Why, thank you very much! ❤️ We love to connect with the American public and we are proud to represent the world's most powerful Air Force. ✈️
TheUSAFBand I couldn’t be more proud to have you guys representing us!!!! My best friend from basic is TSgt McGinty. We graduated BMT in October of last year and he is up in DC with the ceremonial brass. Because of him I try and follow what you guys are up to and I have to say I think we have the best band of all the branches!!! Aim High!

Congratulations and thank you Airmen for your service.
That was so awesome! At first you think it's just a few members of the band, lightly drumming and whistling....and then they hit you with some flutes, a bass, and trombone...next thing you see and hear, are some clarinets and violins.....and before you can do anything about it, your audio sensors, are being overwhelmed by the entire band, along with the choir.....pretty sneaky guys.....but job well done. Outstanding!
I've seen them do their mash show at the Smithsonian a few times and they are amazing in the way they grow into a full orchestra and chorus
Yeah bro. It blew me away
I very rarely cry. Buttttttt...
When I saw this, tears started streaming from this 71 years young Airman.
Protecting our nation and more, always. Thanks for all you do!

Touching man. Thanks 4 your service ! 👍
@@nickonicko2575 sir, all I ever did was guard aircraft, missiles, and systems in Air Force Security Police (now called Security Forces, with a motto of "Defensor Fortis" Everybody does the Latin thing! Oh well...). It's work you may have done with greater ease, talent, and excitement. Anyway, the Air Force sent me to Eielson Air Force Base, 26 miles southeast of Fairbanks, Alaska, for an 18 months tour, and I spent 3 years there. The Air Force kept me from being drafted (yes, I was a draft dodger, lol), and I absolutely LOVED Alaska! I highly recommend for anyone to go there in the summertime. Thanks for the comment. When everyone was discharged, we weren't told to stop serving our country, friends and neighbors. Please be safe and careful!
@@TheUSAFBand I have always enjoyed your performances, your collective skill set, professionalism, being ambassadors, and dedication to the Air Force, and above all, to the United States of America. Your Professional Results In Daily Effort (PRIDE - and yes, half a century later, we still remember that) shows magnificently! Someday, I'd dearly LOVE to actually see a performance !

Most beautiful military song ever I heard. Brilliant!!!
Hard to believe that the YOUNGEST branch of the military is now 80 years old! I happened to be at the 60th birthday celebration at Hickam Air Force Base in Honolulu. Just so happened that the Thunderbirds were in town!
The youngest branch is the space force
Outstanding! I live next door to FE Warren AFB. The men and women who serve our country in the military are "THE BEST OF THE BEST". Thank you for all you do...and Happy 80th Birthday USAF!!
We launch sorties. Thanks for being a morale booster for my fellow Airmen.
Always!
It still cracks me up how the Air Force hands out rank like Halloween Candy to band squadrons. After one year in the USAF Academy band, I carried an NCO rank that would require about ten years of service for flight line personnel.
That was very professional, just like everything the USAF does :)
Great job, all! I salute you!
time is very fast! I just watched this when it was premiered, (it's like a couple of months ago..) Happy 81st Birthday USAF!
🎂 Thanks!
Thanks from Florida 😍👍✈️💕🛩❤️🇺🇸

I remember in 1989 when I was in 7th Grade at Donovan High School the Illinois Chanute Air Force Band came to our school. What a Rock Concert. Us kids couldn’t believe what we were hearing. We though it was going to be like any other high school band. My Principle surprised us. What a Day. Lasting memories👍👍👍🇺🇸
Although the confetti guns at the end were a bit lame, all the rest was exceptional. Congrats to anniversary of this song, and the 72 years of MY Air Force. MSgt Ron Rose, retired.
THANK YOU for your outstanding service MSgt Ron Rose...two thumbs up from Cheyenne, Wyoming in the greatest nation in the history of this planet the United States of America!
I chuckled a little when they did that. Then again, the whole production had a kind of "La Cage Aux Folles" production quality to it. But hey, it's the Air Force.
God blessed the air force and the united state of america🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

That was nice and different. Liked with each pan the band grew larger. I played alto & tenor sax marching band and loved all the standards that are marching band music. Enjoyed🎼🎵🎶🇺🇸👍
Very impressive. 😊. I remember the practice time and tuning to the machine they had in 60s. Music is going to get a major upgrade soon.
A really great up-beat arrangement! I missed the intro verse (Verse III) "Here's a toast to the host of those who love the vastness of the sky, . . .

Excellent peformance! & song. Thanks for sharing.
This song is special to me. I used to hear it all the time as my dad was Air Force. It brings back good memories whenever I hear it. I still miss the sound of jets and being on a base. Only those who lived it will understand what I'm saying. Great video!!

When I think of my father who was a waist gunner in a B-26 in WW2 and was shot down behind German lines, suffered shrapnel wounds, became a member of the Caterpillar Club, shot at by Germans as he hung in his parachute harness in a tree, and lost crew mates in the incident, this song comes to my mind. I love it for these reasons but also because it is just so upbeat and inspiring.
This is by far one of the best arrangements I've ever heard.
I strive to be able to arrange stuff like this one day, to have such original ideas and think of every little nuance.
Bravo!👏👏👏
Thanks so much!

I wanted to join the Air Force when I was in my late teens but my parents talked me out of it. I have always felt I missed a great opportunity. And I love the Air Force song!
I am currently trying to talk my shy 18yo daughter INTO the Air Force for all of the great opportunities. I am a Army veteran and understand what could happen but may not.
Your parents definitely screwed you with that one. The air force is a great option for anyone who's getting out of school and doesn't know what to do
this gave me goosebumps, just outstanding
A nice song keeping everybody closer...
This was done in the most American way.
I love it.
BTW, WWII started in 1939, assuming you guys meant Robert Crawford flew in WWI. Served USAFR 1996-2016. Still sing along whenever I hear the song.
