Looks like a safe clean city. because it's in New York, it must be expensive to live there.

Not at all. It's a boring small town, with not a lot to do with lousy weather all year long. Poor paying jobs as well. I should know I was born and raised there.

I pay about six hundred for heat included rent. I think it is fairly cheap. The city is one hour from Ithaca, Scranton, and Elmira. Binghamton University is in the middle of a huge expansion, and they are taking care of a lot of the urban blight that was here. There is a lot of regentrification of the city at this time. Safety is a matter of neighborhoods. I think if you mind your business and stay away from known bad areas you will never be hassled. The people in the bad areas are friendly if you say hello, they generally have alot to say. Recently there have been large groups of Yemeni refugees moving to the area. Those neighborhoods are extremely safe. It is two hours to NYC, there is talk of a commuter train coming to the Scranton area(Joe Biden is in the WH) otherwise you will park in NJ and take a bus or train across the river. Watkins Glen and other cities are a little further away but still have spectacular public hiking areas. It is worth a look into.

Most people in Binghamton own houses , The rent is more like $1000, note taxes are high. The average income is high, but so is property crime. However, violent crime is not high. lots of parks and outdoor events.

I remember when routes 81 and 17 were built. It was years 1964, '65, and '66, and a friend and I would hike on what is now that area of state highway when it was still construction dirt road.
You can see in the video where Mt. Prospect was dug away. Additionally, the houses on the north side of Prospect St. were "aquired" by the State's act of eminent domain. Most of the owners caved when they were given offers for their homes, with the exception of one guy who decided he wanted to keep his home, and he actually moved his entire house up the hill. He had his house jacked up onto these enormous blocks and then moved up the side of Prospect Mt. to a site on top.
It was a big deal, as I recall. It was in the papers and on the news. He was also my Driver's Ed teacher that year at the high school. Memories.

My hometown, thinking of moving back actually. retired now, and Fla getting too hot and very crowded. Tri -Cities coming around thanks to the University, and IM3NY wants to build a 2 million sq battery plant on the old IBM sites in Endicott, with thousands of new jobs! Besides, I can still get down to FLA in Jan -March when its bad up in Bingo...They even have non-stop BGM-Orlando flights now...

i’ve heard about the IM3NY I should probably take a photo of that area before they start working on it so I can have a before and after.

There is nothing that could ever get me to move back! Orlando is hot but ac is a great invention. I'm go back to visit family but being a Floridian since 85 I know there is nothing there for me!

@@nehemiahjahndrone Another couple years and it will be a lot better. SUNY is a great way to funnel money into the area and to avoid the crooks that will steal it all with crooked contracts for their sleazy "Fredo" relatives.
