  • In this video from the old good DOS game 4D Sports Boxing I beat The Champ with a TKO at 2:45 in the second round. This fight was 18th for my heavy class boxer character, and it isn't possible to fight The Champ sooner (having fought less fights before). Before every fight the boxer trains and gets improved physique, so fighting The Champ as early as possible and beating him with a TKO/KO was a real challenge.
Please note that I used the high simulation option (default) in this fight, which makes the AI better (=tougher) than when the low simulation is chosen. The low simulation setting would also result in more simplified graphics: The boxers look stiff and they're all drawn equally tall even though the game physics still use differing heights, and the boxers look stiffer. Moreover, it seems to me that the setting affects the game physics too.
Anyway, I've beaten The Champ in the 18th fight with TKO also with the low simulation setting. That setting made it so much easier that I managed to do that last year. With the high simulation setting, I did this for the first time yesterday (23th April). I needed four rounds then, but I knew I could do the same in less time with the strategy and the balance of physical attributes I had found.
My boxer was tallest possible, so he had longest possible arms, which was a great benefit. I'll probably try to do the same (but not as fast) with shorter arms for extra challenge some day.
Before this fight, Viking5 won all the matches with a KO, and they were all versus the highest rank opponent available (gives the maximal money). I purposefully avoided doing a TKO for fun. I've also beaten The Champ with a KO to continue the KO pattern (I use the same copy of the BCDATA1.DAT over and over again to fight/train the 18th fight), but I needed some extra rounds to avoid a TKO.
The game was run in DOSBox 0.72 with these settings: core=normal, cycles=6000, sbtype=sbpro2. DOSBox was also used to record the video. I submitted the original video here (CZcams then converted it). No cheats or assisting tools were used.

Nice performance! You are a true Champion! Didnt play this since the year 2000 or so... I did almost the same like you. Always fighting the best possible opponent. Maybe I should play it again and upload :-) One day I even managed to down the champ with my first 7 punches in round 1.

I never used the blocking in this game.. no wonder I struggled with the champ. Came close to knocking him down a few times, and won a decision once.
    Great work on this vid!

The guard stays up (visually) quite long without pressing anything. However, if 7 or 9 isn't down or hasn't been down long enough when you get hit to head, the punch won't really be regarded as blocked. So the damage doesn't get reduced or it gets reduced just a little bit.
However, interestingly, if you are holding 1 or 3 when getting hit to head, or 7 or 9 when getting hit to body, it will be considered as a partial block. Dmg will be reduced considerably, even though it makes little sense.

the build looks different to what im used to, that first round should have put you at half health. copping a clean roundhouse from the champ on my comp puts me on half health with a maxed fighter

it's impressive, I barely beat him in fight 38 and for points, I spend half the fight running away. I do not know how you do it

It was a 5 hit combo and the combo after it was a 5 hit one too...

So The Champ IS beatable! I remember I sucked so hard as to have my ass kicked all the time to a 30-something-th ranker who had really long stamina meter compared to others.

I can never get his overall condition down enough. Mine depletes fast even though my stats are the same than his. I just get UD wins from him. Many other high end opponents too.

If you punch him when he punches you, then the P meter gets a big hit - this depletes his O meter a lot faster.

Cheers, I'll try that next time. The years may go by but 4D always comes back.
