Wog used to be a semi derogatory Australian term for immigrants from the Mediterranean area. It's at least 70 years old. Back in the 80s the children of 'wogs' proudly grabbed the term and proudly used the term to describe themselves, particularly in comedy. Once the term was embraced and used by that community, it totally lost its effectiveness as an insult. So now few people are insulted or offended by the term. Something for the African American community to consider.
Yea 100% I mean you could say it in a derogative way, but you can say anything in a derogative way. All my wog mates don't take offence and never have, I mean i don't expect everyone to start dropping the N word, but if all black people just stopped caring about the word when used by other people, it would lose it's meaning and no one would care. All my wog friends also just identify us as skips (skippy the bush kangaroo) again no one cares, just an easier way to identify who you are talking about.
I have a lot of brown friends too and they call themselves things I wouldn't dare too, but I guess its the landscape we grow up in.

My son said to me few months ago. “I’ve go a great Aboriginal joke to tell you.” I was absolutely shocked. My son said, mum, Dave my best friend and best man at my wedding told me the joke, then I laughed. My son’s best friend is Aboriginal lol. He’s so funny, he makes up really funny jokes about himself, lovely funny man.
Wogs are the original Aussie nickname for Greek and Italian migrants to Australia, they adopted it too! Wogs get our humour! 😁 Yes, Australia has high standards, but also better conditions, wages, variety, lifestyle! 👍
People where I come from, especially the older ones, call the flu or a sickness, the wog. I can’t help but wonder if that came from racist hate of the greeks and they used that word to describe it as an insult to them. Maybe not, I just do not know.
