A BIG shame for European juries voting for generic English songs rather than good songs in their national languages, which is the point of Eurovision!
Question: does this shame apply to England because their main language is English?
@@achoo_w obviously it’s not the same for the UK. There’s is way to show culture en English for England but the UK is made of Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland they all have their own languages and cultures completely different from England even if they all speak English.
2016, 2017, 2021 and 2022 songs won in their native language ! Like come on now! 🙄 it’s harder to win in a native language other than English, but it’s not impossible .
Sadly it will be a cold day in hell before the BBC ever sends anything in a language that isn't in English.
I'm Scottish, but I am realistic, virtually no one speaks non-English indigenous languages, the BBC clearly feel that the song has to be understood by the southern English majority of the population.
If they wanted to they could already have done so, as early as 1970 when Mary Hopkin, a first language Welsh speaker represented the UK and came 2nd with 'Knock Knock Who's There?' in a year Ireland's winner Dana came from Northern Ireland. They don't want to send a song in a language they don't speak, end of.
I thought 2023, a year they wouldn't necessarily want to do well in as the hosts was the perfect year to send a song in Welsh, the most widely spoken Celtic language, especially as it would stand out, fits so neatly with the branding and message and Liverpool is right next to Wales and has a large Welsh diaspora, but clearly I was wrong. Best to just move on and accept that representation means everything BUT native languages that aren't English to the BBC.

I loved Mimicat but this year, for first, I was rooting for France. It's one of the best ESC songs ever. I don't understand why didn't finish, at least, top 5.
I loved both france and portugal. I think it is a pity people dont understand some of france songs. I have been certain france would win on 3 occasions last 10 years and then they end up in the bottom. Not fair. I felt Portugal and France was our main threat for victory but turned out europe really isnt a francophile like myself

We must learn to take Eurovision results more lightly, what matters is being there, they all won several times to be there. The voting is usually a sum of factors including neighborhood countries.

How this song only ended up 23rd and that hideous monstrosity that can't even be called a song from Finland ended 2nd is beyond me. People don't care about the song, just about the freak show. And they're freaking tone deaf. My country's entry (Belgium) sucked ass too and still ended 7th, right in front of a much better Estonia. Armenia was great too.

IMHO: the lad couldn't carry a tune in a freaking bucket. But I get it. He's very TikTok-able, which seems really important to a lot of people and which is probably the main reason he did as well as he did. The final results were dispointing, mainly the popular vote. I admit I was expecting much more then just 16 from the popular vote. But alas, it is what it is. I'm super proud of her performance. She slayed.

2023 was the first year since I started watching eurovision (somewhere halfway the 2010s) that I didn't watch any part of any of the live shows and I cannot believe that I missed this one performing live. It is such an incredible song and the live performance is even better. I also don't understand how this masterpiece got 23rd. Imo it should have gotten top 10 at the very least and definitely top 5.

What really makes me love this song in particular is that it is EXACTLY what a eurovision song should be.. a representation of the participating country.. Genuinly Portuguese with one of the the best vocal preformances of the night with little to no difference from the studio version :)
