I found this song right when my wife and I were going through a very, very rough patch in our marriage. I was sitting on my deck and played this song about 10 times and cried harder each time. I wanted to shut it off but I kept hitting repeat. It was cathartic to just be able to empty my mind, heart and soul for that brief moment in time.
It was this line that got me:
"I dreamt I'd take you with me. And you'd say you forgive me, and we'd live out some easy ancient song"
I have a tough time listening to this song, even today...but I do. And I love it. And it makes me remember who I need to be.

Heard this for the first time 2 nights ago. Had his songs on repeat since. My 6 year old loves his music too.

I Watched her pack it all up this morning. Sww her and my boy drive off to whatever is next for them. There wasn’t any more anger or hurt in her eyes or if there was she hid it like a pro. I was real proud of her for how she conducted herself. Be good to those that let you in if you don’t they will eventually leave you sitting there wishing you could have done things different.

There's music and then there's John Moreland. There really is nothing quite like a kick to the gut that is a great John Moreland song.

I chanced upon a video in an endless facebook scroll and heard a live version of this song. I immediately ordered the album and would spend the next 3 days consuming everything I could find of his on the web. Two weeks later, I was front row at his show in Macon, Ga. He is absolutely an incredible songwriter.

You get it wrong till you get it right. Powerful thought. Sometimes you exhaust everything. You hope you hit a soft bottom not a hard loose everything bottom. Sometimes hard to shake the ghost that'll take you down. I love your enthusiasm but really enjoyed your open heart. I got it right finally glad you did to.

I've loved this song for some time now. It's really nice to see someone with your platform spreading the word of how incredible he is. You clearly feel his pain too which made this video so genuine feeling.

This song still breaks me in half. Blacklist is the other song. I started to heal from abuse after hearing these two songs one morning at 5am. I needed to hear them and one sleepless night I found them. Good luck to good people. Spent two days learning those songs in agony. Thank god for my guitars. They haven't let me down. Real love... 40 years.

This subject and your reaction remind me of this tune written by Patterson Hood of the DBT's. Always been a personal favorite. Imagine a song called "World of Hurt" being uplifting?
"To love is to feel pain" there ain't no way around it
The very nature of love is to grieve when it's over
The secret to a happy ending is knowing when to roll the credits
Better roll 'em now before something else goes wrong
    No, it's a wonderful world
If you can put aside the sadness
And hang on to every ounce of beauty upon you
Better take the time to know it
If you feel anything at all
Gonna be a world of hurt
Gonna be a world of hurt
Gonna be a world of hurt
So if what you have is working for you
Or you think that it can stand a reasonable chance
    And whatever's broken seems fixable
    And nothing's beyond repair
If you still think about each other
    And smile before you remember
    How screwed up it's gotten
Or maybe dream of a time less rotten
Remember, it ain't too late to take a deep breath
And throw yourself into it with everything you got
    It's great to be alive
(This is the best live version I could find but just audio)
