  • Craigshill is a residential area in the east of Livingston, lying to the east of the A899, with a population of 5,849
Craigshill was the first part of Livingston to be developed in 1966 as post-war new towns were being built across Scotland to ease overcrowding in the likes of Glasgow and Edinburgh.
This is how it looks from above, March 2024.

Thankyou for the video. This made me cry due to the nostalgia and longing for the old/ better days. My family moved to Melbourne St, Craigshill in 1967 from Glasgow. My dad worked at Glenos asbestos factory in Pumpherston. He then worked at Uniroyal in Newbridge a few years later. My mum worked at G&P Merchants then years later was the receptionist at Craigswood sports centre. I went to Riverside Nursery then seven years at Almonbank Primary and six years at Craigshill High. I'm just filled with nostalgia when I watch this. My high school is gone except for the gym. My primary is basically gone and is now a 'special' school. It was difficult making out where you were flying over as the roofs in Craigshill were all flat and the trees very mature. The only 'constants' are The Tower pub, Riverside and Letham schools but even those have changed. If anyone remembers me (good or bad) reading this then please say hi and how you know me. I now live in Surrey/London. Families I remember from old in Craigshill are Nobles, Wesgarths, Hendrys, McKenzies, Barnetts, Jones, Langlands all from Melbourne St. Muirheads and McDonalds from Fremantle St. Melvilles, Wilson and Speirs from Darwin St, Noons, Mollins, Mastaglios, Robbs, Browns from Onslow St. Kennedys, Lockes, Duncans, Gilmours, Nevins, Dryburghs, McLarens and Gallaghers from Garry and Torridon Walks. There were MANY others too like Scotts, Hannahs, Marshalls from Pentland Park and Lambs from Canberra/Inglewood. Great times, great days. Shout out to many great teachers I had like Mrs Myers, Mrs Baldwin, Mrs McLaren, Mrs Wright, Mrs Milne (my P4 teacher), Ms Hutton, Ms Livingstone, Mrs Seymour. Also Mrs Brandeski and Mr Ferguson the Head. My formative years. Great teachers at High school were Ms Dalling, Mr Hamilton (physics), Mr McLeod and Mr McLean (both maths). Loved it.

Yeah its great to see all the shapes, some parts look crammed and others spaced out. Oh there's some gardens look chaos but it's the fake grass that really stands out 👀
