Morakniv Kansbol Review (Absolute BEST Mora for the money?)

  • The Morakniv Kansbol: could it be the absolute best Mora for the money? With Sandvik 12C27 stainless steel, a hard 90 degree spine, a dual grind (Scandi to Flat) and a comfortable, cushioned, anti-slip handle that performs even in wet and cold conditions it certainly has a lot going for it right out of the gate. Add to all this a reasonable price tag of around $35 USD (closer to $50 with the upgraded MOLLE Multi-Mount Sheath) and it’s a whole different ball game. If you’re looking for a reasonably priced medium-duty companion knife built for daily use with strength to take some abuse (without abusing your wallet), you’ll want to watch this video.

    The Kansbol is the best knife for hiking and outdoor use. It is a great wood carver but also works great for cleaning fish or cutting food. And that profile grind is fantastic for so many things.
    Have owned Bark River and Fallkniven but sold them all and kept my Mora 2000 and later the Kansbol.
    Fun fact: the Mora 2000 is the standard issue knife for Swedish soldiers since the 1990’s. I don’t know if the army is switching to the Kansbol yet, but the green default colour of the Kansbol makes me think that is the case.

    The Kansbol is an awesome back up knife, I keep one in my Haversack kit. I seen lot's of reviews on it before I pulled the trigger, I've beat on this this knife( Within reasonable limitations) It did every task that was asked of it, and it might as well be full tang.

    • @HappilyEverOutdoors
      @HappilyEverOutdoors  Před 6 lety +1

      It's definitely still one of my favorites, just a nice, comfortable all-around camp knife. Even when I'm carrying a larger knife as well I find myself opting for this one anytime I'm doing smaller tasks.

    Hope you get a chance to check out the GPS HK5 or Adventurer models. Great knives. Only ones I’d say that compare to mora in the bang for your buck department. More is still the king of that, but they are worth trying.

    Great video. Really impressed with mora knives and nice to find an affordable knife not made in China. Got a 106 wood carving knife and companion with a Kansbol in the mail. The steel keeps a wicked edge. Think the other great thing about these is that it is a work horse and cheap enough to replace if you had to. Let's face it, why take an expensive custom damascus steel knife out there to potentially get banged up when a mora will pretty much out perform it and be easier to maintain.

  • @caseysimpson1806
    @caseysimpson1806 Před 4 lety

    I have to confess, I own a few other knives which are more expensive but the Kansbol is the one with me on most outings. However, I do not use it in place of an axe or saw.

    One observation: that plastic clip on other Mora sheaths, like the Companion, won't come off your belt even if you tried to remove it, you often have to remove your belt to take the sheath off.

    • @shawnpepin7890
      @shawnpepin7890 Před 3 lety

      Very true. I struggle to unclip my companion sheath from my belt... takes two hands and some time.. no way will that unclip by accident, unless it was just clipped to your pocket

    • @Surv1ve_Thrive
      @Surv1ve_Thrive Před rokem

      It's easy! Just ensure the 'ramp' at the base of the clip lifts over the edge of belt. Simple as that. I think it is perfect and would prefer if available on the Kansbol.

    • @silvanigra
      @silvanigra Před rokem

      @@Surv1ve_Thrive Yeah, I like the fact that it's so secure, too, my point was that lots of people seem to (unjustifiably) think otherwise and consider it a poor sheath because it can come off too easily/accidentally - which is not true.
      As for lifting the ramp at the base of the clip over your belt - that's common sense, BUT it's not as easy as it may sound - I have a hard time doing it and it requires both hands to do it - but I like it that way, I don't need to remove the sheath until I get home, and I prefer to know it's secure.

    The Kansbol is the best sub $30 fixed blade currently available with the Mora 2000 a close second.

    • @tor2919
      @tor2919 Před rokem

      Yeah Kansbol and 2000 are the best. Sometimes I prefer the 2000 over the Kansbol. The 2000 handle is a bit better in reverse grip and the full rubber handle is better in very wet or slippery conditions. I also think the more polished blade on the 2000 is possibly more hygienic because it’s easier to clean. The soft spine on the 2000 is easier on the thumb when carving. But the Kansbol has a better sheath system and the sharpened spine has its advantages.

  • @QuantumPyrite_88.9
    @QuantumPyrite_88.9 Před 5 lety +2

    People who turn a perfectly good knife into a ferro rod striker and wood splitter need their heads examined . Spend weeks or months in the outdoors where ones life depends on a good butchering and wood tool making knife and you'll dump the idea of a sharp spine which is horribly uncomfortable for butchering and doing fine wood work .
    IMO - If an individual can wear a fixed blade on their belt , they can wear a small pouch with contents for starting fires = common book matches - Zippo lighter and a ferro rod for backup .
    I like your video and thanks from AK . Lefty

    • @whengrapespop5728
      @whengrapespop5728 Před 4 lety

      Quantum Mechanic
      A common reason people use a ferro rod is to have more of a “primitive” experience, an experience that a lighter (which is of course a quicker way to start a fire) can’t offer. Sure, if a ferro rod is just for backup or emergencies, a lighter is probably more efficient. However, when it comes to a knife, some people just want to use it as a tool, while others enjoy polishing it and treating it like an edge. I’d say it’s two different purposes, and while I personally use a small hatchet for kindling, I have a knife I’d like to keep pretty, and another cheaper one I wouldn’t mind getting a little dirty from striking a ferro rod. Kinda like how you’d use a hammer for nails, but you wouldn’t mind using a less expensive hammer to bend something for a particular purpose.

      @@TanginaRubinstein of all the knives I've owned it's not truly sharpe. If anything its dangerous based on the fact it's not sharpe enough. I wouldnt reccomend it for fine work with meat or skinning hides and it makes a mess of fish cutting, The only thing I've found this knife to shine at is in brute tasks like to baton wood it works well, it chops basic veggies fairly well if you use it for cooking at camp. The handle could use some improving it does get a little slick when wet which can also pose risk of injury a better material for the handle or even a nice finger hold that would lock your hand in place better would help. Not a fan and wouldnt reccomend to a friend or hunter. I would how ever reccomend this knife for your basic Instagram bushcrafter
