  • All of Google's Gemini AI demos were proven too good to be true, but one. Gemini's application to track and evaluate user intent to build bespoke user experiences made quite a few UX designers, product managers and developers tune in and ask: if this is the beginning of the end. As with every topic, the reality is much more nuanced. In this video, I'll walk through recent announcements and share my thoughts on the current state of this new development which clearly aims to synthesise experience design and product development as we know it.

This presentation does a great job of showing how _programmers_ perceive the product. This is working with a _physical_ rather than a mental model. That's why programmers' designed products often look the way they look. It's just a set of controls for someone who knows how the physical model works. And it usually has nothing to do with the user's mental model.

If you think about it, it kind of make sense and it is easy for them to create a UI since they have Material DS. It's not clear to me if they are trying to create a website/app or this is just their way to showcase info using UI instead of just text.

I think in one of your podcasts someone said they would rather ship late then too early and I think this is an example of that where tech is tripping over itself to use ai for everything and there's gonna be a huge mess to clean up, which honestly feels a bit like karma ha - will be a good opportunities for organizations to learn expensive lessons and see the value in UX processes.

This looks like what stakeholders want though

The crisis with Ai is that designers only see the output. Where there is a user-computer interaction, there are meriad of potential roadblocks for ux problems to solve. Zoom out, because even Ai is a flawed product.

My thoughts exactly. There is so much more work than just the end result which is what AI is giving us

This looks like an accessibility nightmare. "Click anywhere..." Like how does a keyboard or voice navigator use that?

Looks overwhelming to use, same generated image pops out for everyone who likes animal theme?🤔, the accessibility 😐, the color should change based on what they searched so its kinda atleast more inviting to use, its just like plain chatgpt with image generator.

Don't usually respond to such 'arguments' but would invite to watch the video fully.

I think he is showcasing scenario where should you want to build a site that offers birthday ideas, that's how you build it :D but I think it was all a grandiose joke on all AI fans and OpenAI especially...

The possibilities seem exciting with this but it's very rudimentary at the moment. Too complicated for your average joe and too basic for a professional. It might turn into a good tool in a couple of years though. After AI grows up a bit 😂

Yes, a potential for becoming a good tool for everyone to use beginners or pros alike. that's a great growth mindset to have.

well everything can be made if you train the model like a human... if it can think better than human in certain scenarios .. in future maybe in the next 4-5 years design and product roles will get replaced..

You should keep in mind this in only the beginning. Every big disruption initially look like a toy. We have plenty of examples along the human history. I'm also a UX designer with more than 15 years of experience in the field (also in big enterprises). I'm completely aware that UX will be dead in 5 years, for multiple reasons. And that's ok, since is an inherent step in evolution. UX have nothing special. Is just another human activity, which happens to have an economic importance, at this particular moment in human evolution.
