    Just bought your new book! It only makes sense that with all the free advice you share, that I contribute back to you and support one of your works. Thanks for all the wealth of knowledge that you offer! Honestly, I wish you had more followers because I worry that too many UX designers these days are misled by others into what is expected of the job role and I worry that a lot of their miseducation is then onboarded into companies that hire them, which then reshapes the UX Field into a reductive version of itself. There'd be less "dark patterns" in tech if we had proper user-centric designers that evangelize UX & fearlessly advocate for users, instead of being UI-focused Devs & Coders that carry the UX title.

    Thanks for the tips man, after 4 years in a startup I've learned a heck of a lot and now want to see what the market is like out there in London. I have to get that profile updated and just staring and thinking how to summarise all this work was overwhelming, this is a great start.

    For the last point, you were speaking on think it goes this way-
    Problem: What was the initial problem of the organization
    Solution: How did you go about solving it
    Result: What was the result or output after your solution had been implemented.
    Put these together and I think we get a nice structure for each bullet point.

    Great video! I think there's a real need when it comes for evaluating the UI/UX/Product Design resumes.
    However, I'd like to touch upon the problem of the ATS (applicant tracking system) software. Not all resumes land directly in the hands of a recruiter, more often than not you have to pass the ATS software, and that means some pretty dirty SEO spam-like strategies in order to make sure the system finds matches on the keywords required.
    Maybe you could develop this a bit in the next video?

    • @vaexperience
      @vaexperience  Před 2 lety +4

      Same principles apply. ATSes match job spec with resume - as long as your resume is tailored to highlight the skills needed for the opening there shouldn't be any issues.

    Hey, Vy! Thank you for another very helpful video. It totally makes sense to list out all the outcomes achieved rather than the default skills. What if I'm a newbie and don't have any experience of that kind? I'm currently designing an app that would help vegans discover new vegan products around the city. What I'm struggling to figure out is how I would outline the impact I achieved for a project that is conceptual? Your book is awesome, btw! :)

      This. It’s baffling how this is skated over in so many videos. When you don’t have real projects or are working with a small/new business, often these “results” aren’t quantifiable. Never enough info given why and how to actually express this!

    • @monstera677

    • @vaexperience
      @vaexperience  Před 2 lety

      Get the experience by learning ux and doing projects on the side. Then draw the themes out of it. There's no shortcuts here - you'll need to do the work first (on your own or paid) then list the experience on resume.

  • @adlirifqi
    @adlirifqi Před 2 lety

    Hy Vy, how if add years experience beside “Tools” section? So that means it could be “Adobe CC - 4 years exp” Does that make sense to you?

    • @vaexperience
      @vaexperience  Před 2 lety +2

      Irrelevant info. Juts tell me if you're proficient with it. 1,2,3,5,10 years... all could mean the same level of aptitude. Majority of the tools can take a weekend or a few weeks to become proficient with anyways so that certainly is just a keyword hiring managers will look to match.

    I am very confused. I have recieved different suggestions from different sources. I initially created a simple resume and it just followed a clear hierarchy devoid of any graphics. But one of the people in the industry suggested that I should use my ux skills to make it interesting as they don't even go past the resume if it is "boring"

    • @vaexperience
      @vaexperience  Před 2 lety

      Did they mean use your creative or UI skills? UX skills means usability and utility - keep it simple.

    I have a question. Would you ever put a personal project/case study that isn’t developed or live onto your résumé? Asking for those who don’t have much real world UX experience but would at least like to feel in one previous experience with something related to UX…

    • @emmapotter2333
      @emmapotter2333 Před 7 měsíci +1

      I guess the point is to include what you have the best in your resume...that can be concept design/personal project isn't developed if you don't have real-world projects. I landed my first design gig by a practice design and I think this applies to many designers.
